My ostomy is about 2-3 inches below my bra bottom…… because I’m so short waisted . And just this week, I had a leak because my waistband of my pants “ scooted under the bottom of the bag between the skin and adhesive. I was so very embarrassed because I was at chemo and couldn’t find the “ smell”.🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ I’m 71 and just had this installed about a month ago and am still not sure if it’ll be temporary or permanent. We have to wait and see after I go through chemo and radiation . Prayers for you and thank you for these videos .❤️❤️

You are a Godsend. I needed to see what other options I have for clothes. My ileostomy will be a year old January 4th 2022. I have been wearing leggings and joggers. I hate it. I was told not to have anything tight across the ostomy itself. When I put on my jeans the waistline crosses right over my actual ostomy. I am so afraid that it will stop the flow from coming out. I will have to figure out what jeans I can wear. I miss regular pants. I feel so dumpy at times. So thank you for showing me some cute ways to dress. Have a wonder Christmas. Hugs and blessings

It’s a bit of trial and error but you will figure out what is comfortable for you! Most of the time when I tuck my bag in the pants or leggings completely cover the bag. However, I have a few pairs of pants that do not. 😃

My doctors told me the same thing and I was so depressed but as time went on I realized I could wear anything. Especially high waster jeans…anything high waisted especially underwear. That helps smooth out the bag outline…it helped w everything

I’ve never really had any problems with my Osomy bag the only thing I can’t wear with a Osomy bag is jeans since it with squish the bag and make it burst

I commented on one of your older videos a few days ago bug I don’t think you saw it. I’m still fairly new to my ileostomy. My last surgery was august this year so still adjusting but I’ve tried the tucking tue bag in the pants deal but it hasn’t been successful for me so far. I’m really hoping it’s just something I’ll have to keep experimenting with. I tried it a couple days ago with some jeans I had pre- surgery. I couldn’t even make it through the 2 hour dinner. My bag started inflating as soon as we got there and I was so worried about it, I felt so uncomfortable. I kept checking it thinking it was going to explode. I use the ones without the filter because the ones with the filter let’s so much air out that it would just keep my output sitting on top of my stoma and it would sting and cause leaks. My output is fairly thick so the best solution I found was no filter to keep just a tad of air in my bag so it can actually fall down in the bag. And another tissue I have is my pants sit right across my stoma and Doyle let the output go down in the bag so I’m like uhg, what else can I do ?! It’s so discouraging. I love your positivity and outlook.

Hi Ashley, being prior user of the Ostomy bag system; yes you do need to have the vent. It was the first question I asked about when recovering in the hospital as the bag bloated. The Stoma normally lives in the environment so it is just fine with matter on top of or around it ( it can be moved around as needed). That matter is quite clean although most would not associate it that way. It's recycled materiel that is all. Goes through a chemical process to break food down, if I had my guess; the way it smells probably came the evolutionary idea that if it smells good it could be re-ingested. This way you do not but most associate with bad material. It is not. To move forward I think major advancements including but not limited to stainless fittings to easily connect disconnect from a bag type system should be made. A push for advancements in this field is what's needed. I found when in the situation is not to worry about what another thinks. I was in situations where my body in public did what it does normally but I was not able to control it. They will have to get over it. :). Don't worry about what an other doesn't understand. Live life and if chance of a reversal go for it, it's much easier with the robotic surgical method. The pain on reversal is near zero. Hopefully I helped somewhere in this reply, I can answer any questions you may have.

Hi Ashley! They make different lubricants you can put in your ostomy bag to help the output slide down and not stay sitting at the top. Maybe that would help on the days you want to wear a bag with a filter and tuck it in. I have also used a SMALL amount of baby oil inside my bag before. Just don’t use too much! It also helps with the smell of you get a scented lubricant or scented baby oil. 💚💜

Just new ostomite so trying to find things to wear that don't press on the incision has been a challenge. Looking forward to this healing so can get into jeans etc. Can't wear most of my dresses any longer. Pants will work once I am no longer in pain.

Got my ileostomy 11.18.21. You are a ray of sunshine!! No wonder you are a teacher!! You are giving me so much hope!! I have fistulizing Crohn's. I could have this for 6 months to a year. I've probably pushed it with my diet more than I should the first 4 weeks.. I am going to hold back on meats. Anyway, thank you for posting these videos. I thought I couldn't tuck in my bag! Love it Amber!! Great options for crazy southern weather 🤣 When I want new inexpensive super soft leggings I go to CVS. DG also has those Bobbie Brooks I think? OMGeee so soft!! I tend to just go with what I feel for the day. Occasionally that means “I feel like 👖 jeans today” but mostly, it’s yoga pants (also CVS) or leggings. Long shirts a must for me on those tighter bottoms days & yep - CVS has LOTS of those too 😎. Have a blessed weekend!!🎄💜

Do pants need to be high wasted above the ostomy?

I have a hernia under my ostomy bag which bulges out a lot. No matter what I wear, the ostomy bag shows. I buy long tops in a size a little bigger than I need but still the ostomy bag shows a lot. Any suggestions about what I can do so the bag doesn't bulge out so much? I can't even think of wearing a bathing suit.

@@joandwight8532 You can try high waisted pants I wear active casual pants. I gained weight like crazy after my surgeries plus I have hypothyroidism which doesn’t help. When I asked the doctor about the weight gain she said your body is retaining all those nutrients now…not helpful. You can also try maternity pants they make them with the panel and ones that fit under your tummy.

When I tuck in my bag, it causes my output to cake on my stoma. My output doesn’t fall down in the bag. That causes me to worry about needing to produce output and it can’t come out.

The same thing happens to me. I squirt a lot of lubricant into the bag and everything still cakes on the stoma. So I have to empty the bag every couple of hours.
