YakSmash yep, I know! I was born and raised in Austin and in January-February 1985 we had three snows, all of which were very measurable. February of 1973 was a freak snowstorm. We had snow in Austin and even my grandparents in Refugio near Corpus Christi got enough snow to blanket the ground.

The most I’ve lived through in Maryland (I’m only sixteen) was probably about 2-2 and a half, MAYBE 3 feet, but probably not that much. Overnight, you wouldn’t get any more than that. In a snowstorm that’s really bad over a few days? Yeah, you could probably get up to 3 feet easily if it was really bad:) Also you guys have super fun cute kids😂:)

I live in far SE Oklahoma. If we were forecasted to get 10 inches of snow, people would freak out. Most people would wait until the snow started falling and then they would all go to the store at one time. I would plan ahead and have everything we need before the storm got there. We live in a mobile home which is all electric, but if the power went out, I could cook on the bbq grill and the side burner. We are on a well, so I would fill containers with water for cooking and the bathtub with water to flush toilets. We would do okay. But trust me, I've seen people down here go nuts when their power goes out.

We're in southern Kentucky and we've got a winter weather advisory for a possibility of 1-3 inches. Looking outside I only see rain and mud but the temperature hasn't dropped enough to turn it into snow. If we get more than 2 or 3 inches the roads will be closed and everything shuts down. Of course we have a lot of back roads that are on hills, mountains, sharp curves, etc. and they aren't fun when you don't have snow tires and you slide, even in 4-wheel or all-wheel drive. We're thinking of moving to Alaska but we're going to do a vacation up there first, while it's winter, to make sure we can handle the extreme differences. I hope we all agree on it because I cannot stand the southern heat anymore lol.

Wow opposite to my state New South Wales in Australia today. We're on a catastrophic fire warning today 35+ Celsius & windy. We've had fires burning up the coastline for weeks so many still out of control, 3 people lost their lives 💔, many schools and highway closures, 100s of our koala population died & many other animals, 150+ homes destroyed, poor air quality due to smoke 😔 Pretty horrific at the moment. Seeing all that snow is surreal for us. Take care. 💜

We are under a winter weather advisory - our first snow of the season - it was 60 degrees yesterday - right now 19 degrees and have about 2 inches on the ground. Ten inches of snow would pretty much shut our town down. Schools are cancelled here with just a little snow. Our town isn't very good at keeping the roads cleared. Ice storms here are worse - almost guaranteed to lose power. Longest I've been without power is 2 days - it was rough trying to stay warm.

I live in Maine and we had an ice storm in 92 that was pretty nasty and had most people without power for a couple weeks, but we lose power a lot here on the coast often. We have had two wind storms in the last two weeks that resulted in power outages for 3-4 days for most. Many panic, but I figure as long as I have a heat source and a way to cook I'm good.

It’s interesting watching this and learning. I spent 55 years in Chicago and we’d get a good share of snow. I didn’t realize you’ll don’t normally get the big dumping of snow we’d get back home. If I can still get out I don’t consider it a storm. But with that said, if I didn’t have to be out when we were getting a lot of snow I’d stay put. I’m down in Dallas now for the last few months and good golly, it’s cold here tonight. It’s 34 but the wind is insane, making it feel so much colder. Neighbors taking care of neighbors is a beautiful thing. Be safe, stay warm, and have fun.

We do have the warning, and I have the water dripping also. A funny thing I’ve noticed is in the bigger box stores like Home Depot etc they sell these styrofoam caps that go over your outdoor water spigots, I’ve never, ever seen anything like those before. In thinking about it I’m thinking our insulation back home must be different then down here. It makes sense, but nothing like that up north. Stay warm, bundle up, and we’ll see a warm up soon enough.

Yes, the city of the Seven Hills closes!! I remember epic snows in the 70s and 80s. My Mom, who had a 4 wheel drive, would pick up nurses and essential personnel and take them to and from work at what was used to be called Medical Care Center. She grew up in Philadelphia. The city wouldn't shut down unless it was a foot of snow!! Lynchburg had too many scary hills!! I lived near Va. Baptist Hospital. Our street had a major hill we enjoyed sledding on, but it wouldn't get plowed frequently. If it did, it was super icy!! We were on the Hospital power grid which helped! Our power wouldn't go out for long!! My Dad always said, the safest place to be in a snowstorm in Lynchburg was at HOME!! :)

Here in FLA.. No measurable snow .. We just get cold! When I lived in New Mexico,10" of snow in the mountains threw people into " survival mode panic" , cause there was one road to our town of Timberon... If it closed due to weather, and it did, people panicked! So, seeing how you two are on your "A" game is refreshing ! Good scouts... Always be prepared! Lol! Thanks for sharing! ATB👍😎👍!

South east Georgia here, we had a snow "storm" in Jan 2018 that brought 2-4 inches and people acted like a hurricane was coming through. The city was shut down for 1 or 2 days. As far as I know, nobody lost power nor did we have a lot of ice or wind. So I think it really depends on where you live (or are from) and who is talking. Originally from Colorado, so to me it was a non-event, but to natives it was like the end of the world. Same goes for Dallas, where I previously lived. Every winter they get an ice storm and yes, the metro stays shut down for a good while.

I’m in Northern NY and we’re getting this weather right now. A foot of snow is predicted in less than 12 hours, freezing rain and sleet, currently feels like 5°... they’re putting out a winter weather advisory but this just feels like typical winter weather to me!

I’m in Maryland, we’re getting our first flakes tomorrow! But only a dusting unfortunately. I LOVE SNOW. And I don’t mind driving in it either. I work at a hospital so I’m considered essential staff and there’s something fun about having to stay at work because of the snow. It’s like a giant sleepover with all of the nurses!

Lexington Virginia here. Was out this morning, saw snow flurries and heard Christmas songs on the radio. We have a whole house backup propane generator and gas logs too! We also have a self-propelled snowblower. We have had 18inch or more snows. Our interstate has been shut down because of snow.

I have lived through two really bad storms in Buffalo NY: you can look them up: the October Surprise of 2006 and “Snowvember” of 2014. Both were crazy bad for the Buffalo area. The October storm broke many trees with ice and power outages were widespread. Snowvember 2014 we had 8 feet (yes you read that correctly) of snow in a few days. Buffalo storms are legendary.

Until I moved to the Pacific North West in June, I lived almost all my life in the South. I have never seen 10 inches of snow on the ground. In Georgia we didn't drive when there was 2 inches on the ground. When we were expecting flurries, everyone went to the store and bought all the milk and bread.

Yep, SE Michigan here. Today they called for 1-3 inches of snow and we got 8-10. LOTS of people learned the hard way today that they needed to slow down on the roads. Of course we had dentist appointments 30 minutes away which took an hour to get to. We have a fireplace insert, back up generators, freezer full so we will be just fine. Thankfully the wind wasn't too bad, but tomorrow the cold is supposed to deepen and we will get into the single digits. This is early for the cold and early for the depth of snow as in this is January weather.

I'm in eastern Wa. We typically get moderate snowfalls- 4 to 6 inches at a time, no big deal, but back in 2008 we had a doozy of a storm that dropped 93 inches in less than 2 weeks. I'd say ice storms and high winds are generally more disrupting to everyday life. The last big windstorm we had caused a lot of downed power lines due to falling trees. Some people were without power for a week.
