They were still working on the McDonalds when I left, it looks so different now. There is no place like Alaska, Alaska will always be home to me. 907 all the way. The people make Alaska great. Remember when Alaska had three time zones. I still get a kick out of asking people in the lower 48 if they take Alaskan money, some really don’t know. Love your home more each time I notice something different. Always a pleasure.

One thing that is stood out to me the most is Family that you guys mentioned earlier, I have a family living up there now and I'm currently living in the lower 48 in the southern state with the feeling of loneliness without a family and having to put up with the triple digits heat temperature and tornado here. The more I watch you guys videos, the more convincing for me to begin the new life up there in Alaska. I really miss 20 hours of daylight in the summer and the warm coffee in the wintertime plus the family close by. I think your reason for living in AK for the sake of family is the best reason ever. Thank you for your hard work to make all this video more compelling and exciting!! Love your family!! God Bless!

Family wins over location at this point in my life, but I've been obsessed with Alaska for many years. Lived in Juneau a couple years, and have made several trips up to the Kenai Peninsula and Denali. If I could just get the whole family on board...they would all love it too. The values and sense of community and independence (outside the big city) is like no other. So for now, I can live vicariously through the internet! Visiting Alaska has been my favorite vacation of all time. I’ve been fortunate to travel to 10 countries in Europe, to Hawaii, to western Caribbean countries, to Mexico, even to Punta Cana in the DR at the same time all those horrible happenings were occurring, but yet my 11 days in Alaska far exceeds them all. We went to Denali and inland Alaska and then cruised the normal visitor ports of Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan. I definitely NEED to come back to your beautiful State. It’s so very different from where I have lived all my life in New Jersey outside the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

We live in Wyoming also, and I was thinking the same thing about the shopping. They're lucky they have a Costco right there in town, and Fairbanks Alaska is roughly 20 minutes away from them and then they have a lot more places to shop. We're an hour and 45 minutes away from the closest Walmart and over two hours away from the closest Costco. We don't even have a McDonald's! Lol. There are some similarities between their town and Wyoming for sure though.

I'm so surprised to hear the internet is bad. Without it, your living like I did back in the day when mass communication was the payphone and western union. Fairbanks and North Pole are like a small town and the people are much more friendly and decent. Army men were treated good back in the day so we got along with Civilians well. Where I'm at now, you can have neighbors for a few years and never meet them; they don't want to met you or anyone. If you love nature, Alaska is for you Which I happen to be. Your lifestyles and homes conforms to the land; very relaxed. Its so much more modern now; I loved it then so I would definitely love it now. You would be crazy to leave! More videos of the city and countryside and holiday events would be good.

Anchorage really did feel so different than Fairbanks which are the big cities, and Chena Hot Springs is really out there in the boonies away from everything, lol. I don't think I would be able to handle the darkness and extreme cold of the winter but the September weather was great and dark enough to see the Northern lights. From my e-book, "Alaska! A Senior Citizens Guide to visiting our 4th State" "September 7th, 2013. The expression is, “all good things must come to an end,” and our trip to Alaska was no different. This was our travel day back to our home in Merritt Island. We checked out of the lodge and were on the road by 8:30. On the trip to Anchorage, we were still taking in the sights. We didn’t talk a lot on the journey to the airport. I think we were still hungry to take in every possible sight we could see before returning to the civilized world. I wasn’t really sad about departing this land of sensations. It was more like saying, “so long, for now,” to a new-found friend. I know that Judi felt it too. I learned that you don’t just “go” to Alaska. It becomes a part of you. When you leave you will take with you the people, the land, the wildlife, and flora, all tied up into a nice little package, and deposited right in the middle of your soul. If you have never been to this land of enchantment, you may not carry any regret for not having the experience. However, once you have become a part of Alaska, you will leave feeling enriched and fulfilled. Alaska is not a destination. It’s an adventure of renewal to the human spirit."

Oh, what a joy. I am always just blown away as I watch your vlogs, the love, the respect, the closeness of your family, just move me to happy tears. Your children are happy, and they have a childhood that so many of us are in awe of. I think a lot about what it would be like to live in a community like yours. To have that feeling of freedom, to breathe, and know that is where God has put you. Where I live, in the housing authority, I shouldn't even put a nail in the wall for pictures, because I am charged for each one. Can't paint a room, nope, many rules to follow. But, I love the snow, and that is why I moved to Nebraska so that I could experience it more than once every decade. It doesn't snow much in Texas, ya know. Snow is peaceful to me, and I can watch it fall for hours. Okay, Costco haul is a yes vote from me, and I am as happy as can be with anything that you share. When I have kids I would want to homeschool too. I’m wondering how you do it? Do you hire a teacher or do you (the parents) teach them yourself? And do you have to file something or do something legally to do that instead of public school?

@@alskarmode Every state has their own requirements. Most parents teach themselves & hire tutors when needed. The internet has made it easier for people to home school. There are even web based accredited schools. Some charge some have ways to use for free. If you type in home schooling & your state you might be able to find it or possibly your state's education website will have it.

It's a big difference. I spent most of my life living in Virginia, now in Alaska for the past 4 years. Good luck and don't go for the "full Alaskan experience" your first winter. Full Alaskan experience means dry cabin.

Have at least 4 months of rent and living expense money on the back before you move here.

Phil working a trade is a great thing. By there's still the fact that your only going to work half the year. So that $30/ hour is now $15/ hour because you've only half a year

Make a video on how much it sucks to air your tires at -40F when the compressor motor won't run. From MN so I know how brutish it is when -25 hits with wind. God Bless.

My two nieces homeschool and one lives in California and one in N.J. I know tons of people homeschool in N.J. I would think living in Alaska would be a great adventure but since it takes a lot of physical work it may not be the best place to retire. We want to see the Costco haul! Love your family! ❤️

Very interesting video! But I cannot live without going to Miami Beach every weekend and enjoying my tropical weather 365 days of the year like if I was on vacation. I don’t know how you guys do it. I admire people that live there lol

I could do Alaska for a visit because I don't do well with "dark and cold"! I've lived in two other states but I'm born and raised in Texas so I don't plan to live anywhere else! I enjoyed hearing why you live there, thanks. Blessings ~Sidney

Hey Mark & I have been to Alaska & would LOVE to live there! We are semi used to the weather because we live in Minnesota!Although we have more light in the winter than You! I love that you said it is the Last Frontier for a reason! We are thinking of coming to Alaska with our Adult children next summer!
