Mbappe is one of the most technically limited attacking players, if we compare him to other world-class strikers/wingers of course. His main trait is speed and speed only, that may work on a large open distance between him and the goal, but his composure, positioning, even the finishing sometimes is just out of place, he is not a striker and can’t adapt to being one, Christiano came from the left wing and became the world’s greatest number 9, Messi changed like 3 or 4 positions during his career and didnt stop winning ballon d’ors because of it, Mbappe’s almost 26 and haven’t won anything besides WC in 2018 and his stunning performance in 2022. But despite all of this he probably sees himself as a left wing R9, and that is the real problem, modern football doesn’t give much opportunities to players without a whole set of skills needed for their position, shooting only or dribbling only won’t get you far and my main fear is that Kylian has reached his maximum potential abusing his speed.

I wanna say that Madrid's issues this season stem from the lack of a good playmaker in midfield combined with the fact that defense is being played with 9 players, not 11 (both Vini and Mbappe aren't really returning to the defense or put pressure on the opponents) Kroos, Modrić, Casemiro was one of the best midfield trios in history during the later half of the 2010s, based on how good they were at doing 2 things: vision of the field and passing execution I'm not blaming Bellingham, Valverde, Camavinga... far from it, it's just that that standard is what Madrid is being held to, and losing Casemiro 2 years ago, Kroos last year and with Modrić being in hist 40th year of life, you need someone else who is able to take up that mantle

I disagree that Mbappe has added nothing to his game in the past few years. Last season PSGs offense were incredibly flat and uninspired when Kylian did not play, they drew most of their games when he was either absent or benched and won practically every league game he played the full 90. Most notably he scored a great many difficult goals from far out or from tight spaces, contrast that from his early seasons with psg where he scored at similar rates but had far more open space to run and scored a lot more tap ins and 1 on 1 opportunities. Even though his finishing has been rough this season I think he has much better shot selection than Vini who seems incredibly wasteful with his chances most of the time. The main problem is he doesn't know how to play striker, on paper he was that position with messi and neymar, but neither of them really played wing, but rather drifted into the middle and stayed deeper, giving Mbappe full range of the front line. Now that he's confined to the middle lane in madrids attack I think he struggles to know what to do.
