Spent a cold day out at the cabin putting up a new Ikea table that mounts on the wall and can be folded away to make more space. I also made a soup for lunch from the dehydrated garlic scapes, tomatoes and green celery soup that I grew last summer.

***** LOL We are wonderful people ;-) What I like about Ken Follet is your learn about history without it being boring! And he also has a way of sucking you into the story...many late nights reading his books. Boy that must have been the most expensive belt you ever had to get replace :-D

I love that table, and I'm going to get one too! Very important, cover that tree. I just watched a video, someone I sub to, and rabbits chewed his trees something terrible. Poor animals have nothing to eat, and since that (can't spell it) animal started eating your apples, I bet you to cover that tree up real soon. I can post his video if you want to see it. Your chairs are awesome too. I love that they fold AND have the padded seats. I have to have padded seats. You did a wonderful job on that table, sorry you don't have help, but you did get it done. Your a lot better at it than I am, that's for sure. Bless, Sheila

The local Apple Orchard keeper circles his small trees with a cylinder made with chicken wire. In his case, they protect the small trees from deer and domestic cloven animals in the area (like cows). He makes the diameter of the cylinder, just big enough to carefully encircle the trees.

Interestingly enough, I made the same comment to a friend here. She said her mother told her that the men used to take shovels and dig their road out together to the main road. But what happened to the main road I don't know. The ambulances all had to be escorted by a plough and I can still hear some of the calls asking for an escort on some streets. I haven't seen a plough here yet - not a sign of one. But the dogs and I are ok - more snow is forecast for Thursday.

Barbara Ettles I used to love to go talk to a dear old lady from my family. She was around 100 when she died. Her brother and her never married and always lived in the same house that they were born in. She was a retired school teacher who taught both of my parents and my brother but had retired before I got old enough to go to school. There are two villages here Welshpool and Wilson's Beach, she lived in Welshpool and when she first started to teach she taught at the school in Wilson's Beach, She said in winter she had to board with a family close to the school and if the weather wasn't too bad her Father would come with a horse and sleigh on Friday afternoon and take her home for the weekend.

As we seem to have the same taste in literature may I recommend Jean M Auel: Shelters Of Stone en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shelters_of_Stone And her many other pre-historic novels; a very good author.
