Thank you, I'll be anxiously waiting for your update! We ended up with about 15 inches of snow and I thankfully never lost power! The wind kept the outside chimes"ringing" for almost a full day. Diane from a snowy CT.... :)

I felt like I was watching my own prepping for a storm minus the fowl for me. Heat, lighting, water, food, etc...we got 14.5 inches, -20F and winds up to 50 mph. Tonight with the wind chill -25F. Great video and looking forward to Part 2!

You are so fortunate that you can hand light your propane wall heater. We have a 2016 model in the basement that will NOT start without electricity! A back-up only, if the wood stoves should go out. We primarily heat with a large airtight wood stove in the cellar and our vintage kitchen wood stove in the kitchen/dining area. My brother-in-law lives near-by at the main farm, so he would make sure our pipes didn't freeze. He is at the farm 24/7. We do share a Honda 2000 generator, but it will not start our artesian well pump...So nice to have chickens. Interesting about the short combs and cold weather.

Being Portuguese I am certainly very familiar with salt cod. Looking forward to your recipe. My family's favorite is bacalhau a Gomes de sā. My daughter is an expert at making this for her husband. I have a wood stove in my basement that I usually burn wood in and you have inspired me with your bio bricks. I am loving them for being much cleaner than wood and much lighter as well. Thank you for that. I am in Massachusetts and we also had a blizzard. I had about 15' of snow in my driveway. Have a great weekend.

Here in Cape Breton we had 170 km winds in some places. Where I am at we had 95 km. I had to go blow snow in the morning. During the night it rained and the 30 cm = 1 foot of snow turned to heavy wet snow with a nice slush base which continued to clog the shoot of the tractor's snow blower. I had to use the bucket most of the time. I will be posting a video later when we finally get our power back.Great video by the way.

We used to have major snow storms back in the 60s in England,but due to climate change,we hardly get so much and sometimes we go years without snow,we had a few days of it just be fore Christmas. I think people who live nearer the Arctic circle don't see the changes so readily as we do in uk. So thoses that get loads of snow,don't see the effects of climate change. I have not been in my cabin since New Years Eve, but it has been cold since Xmas. -24 degrees here in southern Ontario and we have been dealing with this Arctic cold for awhile now. Dale, yes, I'm a huge fan of winter storm in the cabin videos. I guess it's a man vs nature thing. I'm also a big Jotul wood stove fan, being the owner of a Jotul 118 Hunter Green finish, circa 1976. Purchased it a couple of years ago from a gentlemen in northern Wisconsin via eBay. I just need a cabin to put it in some day. Growing up in the TN mountains we filled that bath tub a lot along with any plastic milk jugs wet had stored for winter. Now I have the opposite problem, county water but a pump on the sewer.

Keep warm. Interesting to see the preps for the storm. We would have no heat if we lost power for a long period. The heated water feeders for the birds sound good I will have to see if I can find some here.

Hey Dale. We got the Bombogenisys or Bomb Cyclone like you were talking about. Where we live in Stratford, Connecticut we ended up with 13.2 inches. The winds were up to 45 mile an hour gusts. Was one humdinger of a storm. Hope your doing okay and you haven't lost your electricity.

Hey Dale! People LOVE the cabin videos :D Awesome stuff. Great video. I'm hoping to make an offgrid cabin myself this year 2018. Got myself a cheap chainsaw mill and i'm hoping to make a really basic log cabin. Should be interesting. Was going to ask how the storm was but i'll watch the actual storm video first :) We didn't lose power at all here amazingly / unfortunately. no fun :P

That will be nice I though of trying a log cabin but thought it would be too hard to handle the logs alone.

i think i'm going to use softwood, 8 foot lengths of firewood actually. its the cheapest wood i can think of /find. i can get a cord for $50. I'd square off two sides and just start putting to together like that. 8 foot logs of softwood shouldn't in theory weigh too much. we will see. waiting for warmer weather though so i can start milling.
