NPCs are not “alive“ until they are spawned by the game. So Charlotte's timeline only starts with the first visit. So if you visit as Arthur and complete all missions, her timeline continues and she ages properly. If you visit as Arthur and DON'T complete, her timeline still continues and she dies of starvation. But if you wait to visit as John, her timeline never starts so she doesn't age. Basic nature of reality stuff.

Arthur looks like he's around 180-200 pounds (kept him well fed in spite of his TB) ... she looks like she's 110 and isn't exactly a powerlifter. Probably the only thing that makes sense is that Arthur gets up after the coughing fit and she helps him get to the bed, because there's no way in hell she's moving his thick ass over into the bed if he's unconscious.

So basically how it works is that canonically, her existence begins at the moment of encounter. If you find her as John, she is born years later than if Arthur finds her. However, the same series of unfortunate events that leads her husband's death occur. This really sparks up a multiverse theory.

I think It can be challenging for the writers and probably a waste of time to develop a whole different story if in case the player decides to do the side quest with John. Perhaps they could let John into her home. make some stories with her, then fade away to a skip scene where she let John loot whatever he likes, just like how Arthur was allowed to, minus the heart warming leaving a letter scene. Now unless you want John to commit infidelity with the widower, then leaving a heart warming letter to him while john is asleep, I suppose that could work. But I'm sure that is not John's nature to do so XD

I think this stranger mission plays out *relative* to the time frame it is being played in - So, dialogue and scenes will change because Arthur had TB and John doesn't. If you play as Arthur & John 1899 & 1907 Charlotte will age by those eight years. But she will NOT have aged if you play the mission as John in 1907 only, because in that time frame, you will only just have met her. This might be true of some or all of the other stranger missions too, but I'm not sure. If you visit Charlotte as John in 1907 after playing through the missions as Arthur, they'll have a short conversation reminiscing about Arthur. At which point Charlotte will invite John into the house to take anything he wants.

I think they're counting on the fact that if you haven't met her yet, then they could just move the scene a couple years. Instead of creating a second scene for the "thank you" lunch then they just stripped it. I agree that makes the scene lose a little bit of its soul, it was a good opportunity to let him talk about Arthur & co. at least if they they remained adamant about allowing this time shift.

I visited the widow as Arthur and did the first quest where you teach her how to hunt and skin. I never went back, finished the epilogue, and took my time doing other things. When I remembered the widow, there was still the stranger mission marker on my map, so I went. Upon arriving tho, she was dead in the house.. I didn’t get the chance to finish it because I took too long I suspect

It makes sense that she doesn’t age though, because I think that if she had aged it would imply that time had passed since her husband’s death. But given that she couldn’t hunt she should therefore starve. By clearly introducing some creative freedom, or “time dilation” rather, it just pushes her timeline back a few years.

I theorize that while in early creation of RDR2 Arthur was originally not supposed to get TB and was supposed to have the option to have relationships but that was cut and I believe this was something reshot because it was such a good side mission, I also think Sadie was supposed to be a romantic option for Arthur but was also cut from the game in favor of the ending we got, which IMO was more fitting of the redemption narrative.

She was probably intended only for Arthur. During this point in the game (if you really want to care about Arthur) he starts acting with humility, she is most likely supposed to collide stories with his. If you think about it, before they meet had accepted their fates, her being fed with a silver spoon and him being a criminal. When they meet she is at her lowest point losing everything she had and only left to move forward, Arthur is about to lose everything and during this encounter you can really tell that he has decided to move forward as well and accept his fate, to do good with the time he has last and she to survive and thrive.

Great video.They really created this game with many elements. I completed all the side objectives as Arthur. I didn't think of experimenting with john. As going along with the story, it would be meaningful to play all the side missions and revisiting the locations as John after the epilogue.

In my game, I chose Arthur to go & help her. I had John go visit her 2x after that... but when he paid a 3rd visit, no one was there. I have tried (constantly) to do the lantern/pistol glitch to get into buildings, but it doesn't work. It looks like no one has been there in a long time. I didn't find a 2nd grave anywhere. I wonder if there is a notice in one of the papers regarding her death. If there was, that would explain why she wasn't there... it actually gave me a sad & lonely feeling, not finding her. It's neat how we can develop a friendship to these characters in the game... and feel loss when they die. Even though COVID-19 shut down all non-essential businesses for a number of months... then, when businesses started opening back up, rules were put in place about 'social distancing'... unfortunately, the number of people becoming infected is STILL rising every day- over 150,000 deaths just in the US. It has been very frustrating to say the least! RDR2 has been an absolute Godsend... even though it is just a game, you can look at it this way- it allows us to 'go out & be around people' WITHOUT the worry of catching anything... OOPS, I was wrong about that! Not only did Arthur die from catching TB that was going around, there were gang members that died from catching deadly bullets from the O'Driscolls, bountyhunters, as well as the Pinkertons.

This is cool but doing it as Arthur was much better. The scenes where is TB flares up and she's trying to help him is damn emotional. The whole game he's moving closer to death and this side quest more than the other's really touched on that. Only part of the game that made me tear up worse than this was Arthur's last ride.

If you start her missions as Arthur- say that you visit her, and only help her hunt that rabbit. But you don't return to help her learn how to shoot a gun. Once you play as John, and return to her, you will find her dead inside the little cabin. I'm guessing she may have died of starvation.

There may be another reason. I found a dirty guy camping by a tent full if pictures of naked women, he talkes about Charlotte, and he says he had met her and he wanted to "marry" her. I killed the guy and when I CAME black as John the House was empty.

There is a creepy man camping on a hill outside Emerald Ranch that has pictures of women and talks about Charlotte. I shot him but I wonder if he does anything to her!

Hello, i encountered a weird case: I went to her as Arthur just for the first mission the initial one where you meet her next to the grave and you hunt the rabbit, and i never came back till i did it with John, and guess what ? I found her dead inside of her house on the floor

This is the evidence that says Charlotte was the mysterious 2nd love interest story they had to cut. The scene when Arthur returns shows almost martial scene as the two characters stand on the porch. But before that and thanks to MrBOSSFTW I found in the shooting of the bottle scene pay attention to the closeness of Arthur next Charolette, but as John it's a noticeable difference in space. I am saying this as Today marks the two year anniversary of when I first bought the game..THANKS MrBossFTW for this memory👑🎯

MrBoss did you know you can do something like this in the mission where the two brothers are fighting over the woman, if you start, let’s say the first part as Arthur then come back in the epilogue as John they won’t have aged and the mission carry’s on.

She does t age because she shouldn’t need to. You didn’t ever meet her. If she aged she would have died from lack of survival skills. Therefore she had to be the original age as the story point for her is the same event either with Arthur or John. There’s nothing strange about this choice.

This will be the first time meeting her if you dont play this mission with Arthur. But playing this mission with Arthur then yes of course it should feel that way that she should of aged. But basically this is a first approach and say if you never played this mission or even knew about it then it's just a new mission and the time frame wont matter because this would of been something u never knew about though the main story. Its basically giving you your first time playthrough with it.

I did the first interaction as Arthur and came back the second time as John and the widow was dead

Jordan Keen because the widow doesn’t survive more than three days because she wasn’t taught how to shoot a gun. you have to come back less than 3 days after the first encounter for her to survive.
