MAJOR CORRECTION: Dorothy Sarnoff played “Lady Thiang” in the original Broadway production of THE KING AND I but Terry Saunders was one Broadway replacement and ended up doing the film musical. Lena Horne, with makeup wanted to play the role but Rodgers and Hammerstein were cowards and refused. She should have been cast in the film musical.

Well, I do have to say the combination of the subtle affects (and,stoic, asiatic, lack of them) of her demeanor, the costume, the person, the diction, poise and voice were perfect. From a purely musical point of view, I think the Evangelia Kingsley is better. And to further complicate the issue, the original broadway singer's emotive tremolo has special qualities as well.
