On this episode: WHO'S NEXT?! GOOOOOLDBERG! He was the hottest star for WCW during their hottest period but his first run in the WWE wasn't quite as stellar. Did JR try to bring him in before he signed with WCW? What did Vince think about him? What run-ins did he have with WWE superstars before coming in? Who helped bring him in? Who was against it? Why didn't he come in sooner? Was he supposed to be a part of WM19? Why did he debut in jeans and a jacket? What REALLY happened with the fight with Jericho? Goldberg in a Goldust wig, who booked this ish?! What was Vince trying to accomplish with Goldberg? What did Rock think of working with him? How did he get along with Hunter? What was the locker room reception to him? What was the hilarious "common theme" with seemingly all of Goldberg's storylines? When did the relationship start to change? Was their "strike one" and a "strike two" for Goldberg in the WWE? What was Goldberg's chief complaint? Why was his first loss on a house show? Was the Elimination Chamber match a back up plan? How was business with Goldberg as the top guy? What backstage incident cemented Goldberg's future with the company? Why book Goldberg vs. Lesnar at WM20? Why was Austin added? How was it decided who would win the match? What did Goldberg say after he left? Does Goldberg deserve the Hall of Fame honor?

Listening to this makes me appreciate Goldberg's 2nd run in the WWE more. I feel that Goldberg and the WWE both realized the errors they made. From what I hear, Goldberg was more mature and approachable in the locker room. And the WWE realized they should really play to Goldberg's strengths: Keep the matches short and sweet.

All I heard was the burial of Goldberg and Prichard just covering the WWE on everything. You know how many other wrestlers have been in these situations and don't get buried like this. Sounds to me like alot of these situations weren't even Goldbergs fault. Everyone from that era was sick of seeing HHH as champ.

Bruce & Conrad, could you do an episode on the greatest woman wrestler of all time, Sherri Martel?
@SupraRy
@SupraRy 4 жыл бұрын
Here's the thing, you have to understand the position that goldberg was put into. It wasn't his fault that he had the "IT FACTOR". he trained for a short period of time in the power plant to get the basics down and WCW needed new stars to compete with WWF that was making a comeback.they realized he resembled stone cold in his look and voice and threw him into the mix immediately. He was pushed to the moon faster than any other wrestler at the time when he wasn't ready yet. That isn't his fault AT ALL. was he supposed to say "NO I dont want all that money, fame, and championships. I want to be a midcarder for another 2 years first". Now I agree in that his attitude later on did not help him but that was also because people like Hogan, hall, nash all got into his ear and told him what to do and say and bill was gullible and vulnerable so he listened to them because why wouldn't he take the advice from the 3 biggest and highest paid stars in the entire organization? They also hooked him up with Hogans lawyer/attorney whonwas a mostly hated cut throat lawyer that would get his clients their money lol. But I truly believe it was 80% environment/surrounding people and 20% Bill himself that ended up hurting him and his career in the long run. Just my opinion, -Cheers!

I’m not sure anyone can say he deserves to be in the HOF after listening to this… He couldn’t wrestle. He couldn’t act. He couldn’t do promos. He couldn’t get along with his coworkers and he threw temper tantrums in the dressing room when was expected to put out wrestlers over. This podcast confirmed what most wrestling fans already knew about Goldberg… he was nothing more than a cheap, Wish List Stone Cold knock off.

BEST BRUCE MOMENT: Conrad steps up and proves he is a better host+interviewe than Howard Stern, in this exchange we are rewarded for being so patient and we get a purely exceptional glimpse into Bruce and Conrad- who they are- their personalities. Conrad - again- asks another brilliant question- if we were watching stern, it would take an exhaustingly painful 4 hours to get his best question- which would be equal to Conrad's 20th best question. It's like if Nascar came to NYC and we raced them 20 vs. 20. Nascar would finish 16th and 19th- NY wins 1-15,17,20. So Conrad asks about compensation and Bruce proves to possess a moral compass. It's near 2.35.00 when they kick around Goldberg's tenure with both shops. BRUCE- GIVE IN A LITTLE ON THE CONTRACTS- there is no good reason to not share this- people get paid $11 an hour- with a college degree- entertainment includes hearing about how much money these brainless idiots make. They should invite Scott Steiner to the late night how ( who carees whih one they all suck- maybe conan is ok still), yeah bring Steiner in...get him alll excited til he finds out we just want to hear him answer questions ans show us how stupid he is. TY bruce and conrad!

This is amazing . Did you really just use the phrase “common literary plot” when talking about Bill Goldberg? For fuck’s sake. I am a Goldberg hater for multiple reasons. Number one, I’m not some simple minded idiot who thought he was cool because he was allowed to beat people in a few seconds simply to hide that he fucking sucked. Number two, he was a careless asshole who injured people and ended the career of, arguably, the best wrestler of all time. Number three, his idiotic fans, like you, that are too stupid to comprehend that he didn’t deserve what came to him and the business would have been better off without him. It’s not 1998, anymore. I’m sorry that you haven’t figured that out, yet. Goldberg sucks and always has.

Calling Goldberg a Stone Cold Steve Austin rip-off has always been hilarious to me because of how bullshit it is. Couldn't be further from the truth. Outside of both of them being white and bald with a goatee, they were nothing alike. Goldberg was actually based off of Ken Shamrock. And anybody who watched them wrestle would have seen how identical their style of wrestling was.
@TheTruth-pl3mk
@TheTruth-pl3mk 5 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean but Shamrock was far more technical, more fluid. He was much more likely to have a great match with someone than Goldberg was. Goldberg could only have a great match if there was someone to lead him. Shamrock didn't always need that.

I love Bruce and Conrad. They are brilliant together. Even shows I wasnt especially looking forward to (Edge episode for example) were still really enjoyable. I am a little bit worried that the WWE endorsed second podcast will have a negative influence on the show. They, the WWE, may want to clean it up and make it as p.c. and squeaky clean as possible which, in turn, would almost certainly damage Bruce´s storytelling style and the chemistry between himself and Conrad. I hope Im wrong.

If Rock faced Goldberg at WM19, the perfect way for Austin to retire would be with HBK beating him at WM19 for WM14 payback. Or it could've been The Undertaker beating Austin at WM19 to retire him since Undertaker didn't even have a good opponent at WM19.

fmthebaron I was always of the belief Austin chose that as his last match and the end to their trilogy of matches with Rock finally beating him.

Should have started with at least 2 squash matches against lower guys. Then have a named guy call him out on fighting jobbers. No backstage bullshit, wigs, or cars. WTF were they thinking.

I had heard about Goldberg's confrontation with Paul at that convention. Maybe a WCW exec.got into Bill's ear about pulling a stunt for more exposure, but I doubt Bill would be that stupid. Especially if he's the business man we're told he is here. It may have been a simple situation of standing up for himself to Paul's rep for burying people in his interviews. It just sounded like it backfired on Bill. It would have been better to have confronted him man to man after the event was over. Look at the big picture ahead instead of immediate gratification.

Why does the Lesnar-Goldberg 'Mania match get so much unwarranted hate? It wasn't that bad, at all. If you forget the fact that both were disliked because they had already signalled their intentions to leave, taking the match in isolation, it was fine.

If you watch Lesnar vs Goldberg from WM 20 on mute it's a decent match
@TheTruth-pl3mk
@TheTruth-pl3mk 5 жыл бұрын
No, it's not. If you know pro wrestling and what a "decent" match is, then no. It's shit. Lesnar didn't care at that point and Goldberg didn't have a clue what to do, except his usual 3 or 4 big moves (body press into a slam, spinning neckbreaker, spear and jackhammer) and a few clotheslines. No idea how to tell a story or get the fans onside, which they COULD have done, if the match had been good. The fact that the match stunk (along with the prior knowledge of both men leaving) is why the fans booed the shit out of it. Mute it or unmute it, doesn't matter. Bad match.

It’s interesting that when Goldberg left WWE he complained and cried about how WWE mishandled and booked him. Yet when you listen to this podcast the reasons why he was booked that way was because Goldberg was difficult to work with. Destroying your dressing room because you’ve lost the World Heavyweight Championship, what the hell was that about? Did Goldberg think he could beat everyone and not lose a match? I find it interesting that Goldberg doesn’t like the wrestling business but went to WWE for a years contract for $3 million. He was only in the business for himself, wanted everyone to lose to him and make him look good but didn’t want to return the favour in case in destroyed his hard man aura. He was a joke and the fact that Chris Jericho beat him in a real life fight says it all. Goldberg : an overpaid difficult prima donna with a fake hard man image. Just a dick in real life basically.

I dont think you know the facts. You only know what you hear on podcasts and such. I dont think you have his money or are in a stable financial situation such as him. You make wrestling fans look bad with your bad attitude. Thanks for making all of us look like know it all assholes. Remember every time you speak on wrestling you represent all wrestling fans.
