Same. This was the most entertaining segment that went long and it didn't feel long when I watched it back then or now. So no. Not everyone agrees that it went too long. Slowly but surely, Conrad is injecting his own narrative into these shows.

It is basically The Rock throwing catchphrases at random people who are playing characters from his past. With the Micker as the host of the segment. His prom date who didnt put out comes down and The Rock goes, " PUN TANG YOUR ASS OUT OF HERE!" I haven't watched it in years but I remember her reaction with her flipping her hair out of her face and all.

I was in Highschool when The Rock was on the rise, it's amazing to think about how much all the male students talked about WWF and even WCW. It was more popular than any major sport. Rock and Stonecold tshirts were everywhere. You couldn't miss Raw, and it's crazy to me how low it has sunk now.

Like alot of TV shows that gain a level of mainstream popularity, Wrestling had its rise, peak and eventual decline. The world had not experienced sports entertainment until the late 90s and WCW was there for the people who wanted an alternative, like pepsi to coke. It was never going to last but it was a really cool era in wrestling and the stars aligned for it to go down in history.

Rock was so over independently of what happened in the ring that he was never protected in the booking the way other top stars were. Even when he had his 2000 babyface run as champ (his peak) he was used to put over guys like Benoit and Angle as credible main eventers rather than making him the centre of the angles, as Steve Austin was in his babyface run of 98-99.

I don’t think Bruce can see the forest for the trees with regards to the “This Is Your Life” segment. Sure, it went two segments heavy and fucked up the rhythm of the rest of the show, but those segments wouldn’t have pulled that rating. No one would remember them today. The ladder match at Wrestlemania X ran long, too, but it’s one of the greatest matches of all time. What got cut? A ten man tag nobody would remember? We’re in the entertainment business, pal! Allow me to rant for a minute. Firstly, the "this is your life" segment.... you may be among only a handful of people who don't like that segment. It was incredible and still hilarious today. Secondly, we get it, you're a massive Undertaker mark. Everyone loves Taker and respects the hell out of him, but the Rock was on a whole other level in terms of star power. Even at that time, if it came down to the choice between Rock and Taker, Taker was going to be the one falling down the card, not Rock. Fact of the matter is Rock brought in FAR more money than Taker ever could, and that is all McMahon cares about. Again, not trying to shit on Taker, but trying to act as if Taker could be some sort of gate keeper to the Rock's spot post Survivor Series 98' is not only idiotic, but laughable.

I hate to say it, but I think this show is beginning to "jump the shark"! Bruce is disinterested (understandably so with his demanding WWE gig) and Conrad is slipping with his preparation (e.g.: "Rock beat HHH at Summerslam 1998). Also, Conrad is coming off as a "know it all" mark by giving answers as he is asking the questions. Best example is him sh**ing on the "This is Your Life" segment before Bruce could even comment on it. The ONLY way he could have that opinion is if he heard Bruce comment on that before hand. I have NEVER heard anyone crap on that segment and YES, I have watched it over and it is still great! This show was just thrown it together and did not focus on Rock...WHO THE SHOW WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT! It may be time to shelve STW until Bruce is gone from WWE and we can get his undivided attention. Also, so Conrad can have more time to work with him and polish up the editing, retake, etc. which made for a better final product in the early years and made me (and many) fall in love with the show.

Conrad's jumping to conspiracies again. The Rock's mic work sounded more brutal on Billy gun because Billy didn't have the mic skills to compete with The Rock. It wasn't Rock taking liberties, it was Rock doing his usual trash talk but with no comebacks from the other side. Billy didn't have to respond to anyone up until this point. Rock did this to everyone but the only difference were the people he worked with. Rock made fun of Big Show and Undertaker but of course, it's Big Show and Undertaker - guys twice his size that didn't need to talk back. Rock called Kane "The Big Red Retard" but that's another guy twice his size. Y2J could talk back and Rock brutalized him as well. Triple H had heel heat. All Triple H needed to do was to open his mouth and have Steph with him and Rock destroyed him and Steph every night as well.

Then have them fall in love and HHH tries to steal Steph but rocky is too cool for that Las Vegas stunt so they'd need a different creative. but a love triangle between HHH The Rock and Stephanie mcmahon would've been a great way to kick off the epic feud between HHH and Rock. Better than the Angle HHH Steph triangle which was good but imagine rock in '99 in that role instead.

Rschr101 Rock wrote his own promos. Rock said so in his book & Russo has said that Rock created all of his own catchphrases. Russo just gave him direction & bullet points of things to get over. Once Russo left, Brian Gewirtz & Ed Koskey wrote everyone’s promos. Only you guys like Rock, Austin, etc could edit or have creative input, as per Austin & Jericho’s books. Those guys didn’t get him over, because his in-ring work isn’t what got him over aside from the “People’s Elbow.” It was Rock’s promos, mannerisms, catchphrases & charisma that got him over. Why doesnt Conrad go into the financial drawing power of Rock here like he always does with guys like Austin? Rock broke the gate record in 1999, and there are facts and figures online regarding the merchandise sales which showed at this point in time he was the #1 seller even over Austin. It's easy to find and is a great discussion point, especially as Wade Keller reported at this time that Austin was starting to get a little tense over Rock's growth. Russo has also said this. There's also strong stories that the plan here was for Austin to turn heel at one point. I enjoyed listening but it just feels so lazy here, as if the 'research' was actually a wikipedia check. I've noticed it with the other 2 STW episodes on TheRock and it seems clear in Conrad's 2000 podcast with Jim Ross. Pretty sure Conrad was never a fan of Rock because by contrast, whenever there is a chance to highlight the financial success of other wrestlers, he is all over it. A recent show he focused how some drawing power was down due to Austin being out in 2000, yet completely ignored the numerous other metrics that actually highlighted how Rock had boosted the company even further with it on his back. The #1 source for STW is Dave Meltzer who goes in depth on Rock's record breaking 1999 and 2000, yet Conrad rarely approaches. Why?

Austin outdrew everybody. Rocks popularity was a result of Austin getting him over and filling those arenas with him. Vince called Austin the greatest of all time. If Rocky drew so much in 99 who was he working with? Austin will always be better. It's cool if you're a Rock fan, but don't pretend as so many do, that Rocky was ever on Austin's level. Stone Cold was and is in a league of his own.

@@dominicstone8109 Austin shattered most of Rock's 2000 PPV numbers the following year in 2001. He also averaged more in 1999 even when Rock was on the same shows. Quote from Wrestling Observer: "Austin's main events with the likes of The Rock, The Undertaker, Mick Foley, HHH, owner Vince McMahon and others led to the most successful period in pro wrestling history. In 1999, he set all-time wrestling box office records in nearly every city in the country, selling out 70 percent of live shows and averaging more than 12,000 paid per night. In 2001, as the top star, he led WWF, as WWE was known at the time, to selling nearly 8 million pay-per-view orders in a calendar year, the all-time record for any promotion until UFC topped it in 2010." - Dave Meltzer
