@@zoid_on_youtube To be fair, 1500 elo is easily top 10% of players. He's perfectly serviceable at explaining why certain moves are bad most of the time, especially for newer players.

17:46 making the best move won't ever improve the computer evaluation, because the computer evaluation assumes both players will make their best moves. You can't impress the computer, you can only let them down.

Technically you can impress the computer by getting a Brilliant (!!) move, usually the computer only ranks a move as "brilliant" if it is, at first glance, a poor move but by following a certain line then later outranks what the computer determined as "best".

that game by anakin is like a textbook of example of what not to do in a game of chess. all of his moves put himself under pressure from what would be a natural, and neutral, developing move. and his response to escape lead to either more development or just opened himself up to crazy attacks. all while never really developing his own board.

What he said about getting an advantage and then playing less focused is very true, it's the reason why puzzles ask you to find the fewest moves possible to win and not just any good move. Even if you're in a clearly winning position, losing on time is always a possibility and the best way to avoid that is winning as fast as possible.

Really great video! I love this series. At 18:19, Ng5 is bad because then Qxg2 puts you in a bad position where best case you lose a pawn and a bishop with no compensation. That one move would've actually put black ahead in the game.

I've played Chess since I was a kid but I always bounce off of streamers playing it, but your combination of approachable yet competent play, good banter and analytical discussion, and occasional massive blunders to get us yelling at the screen make this seriously top-tier entertainment.

Super helpful commentary around the 17ish minute mark. I know little about chess (the moves and the basic strategy, but not even any openings) and I found it very clear and logically explained. I hope to use that strategy in some games!

I have a theory you were playing lower level players that hadn't "settled" into their scores yet. Which seems to explain their BM and double down plays. Great episode though. I kinda wonder what Deep Blue considers a brilliant move now. Like a queen sacrifice to a mate, or something?

that second match was a player like my uncle their so focused on the queen because it's powerful they ignore most other things so u just ignore what their queen is doing play safe and just play your game which is exactly what happened really hopefully it shows that player the queen isn't everything

When I was a kid I used to casually play chess with my cousins and some friends, and we always played with the rule that, once the king had been in check, it couldn't castle. I'm quite surprised to learn through this series that it isn't an actual rule.

18:08, Ng5 may be a colossal blunder. Queen takes g2, destroying your kingside, and forking the knight and rook. Edited: I looked into it more, and white may be able to compensate with Bf3. Its an ugly muddled position for white in exchange for an exchange advantage, so I'm not completely sure, but I do prefer black at a first glance.
