@Santa Barbara Homestead.....Get a better lawyer. One that understands 'Ex Post Facto'. I've won a similar battle on appeal to a higher court. And the County/Plaintiffs had to pay/split my legal fees. Cost me nothing more than my time fighting for what is RIGHT! Stand up for your rights and take a few, (temporary), bruises, or lay down and get walked on. AND, establish 'precedent' for those that come after. JMHO.

Jason, I love you, your lovely daughter and wonderful wife. The 70s was a different time when people wanted modern days to mass produce, nowadays they inject all kind of crap in the food to make money and you don’t know what you’re getting. I got sick and Doctor had me on antibiotics and and they had to keep giving me a stronger antibiotics because the food I was eating was raised on antibiotics to make them bigger and mass produce and I ended up in the hospital with a swollen spleen I was so sick and stayed there two weeks with the threat of losing my spleen. But that’s legal, it is not legal to try to live save by growing a little food to save your life?

What happened to people doing their due diligence before buying land and finding out what they are allowed to do with the land by code or zoning or any other form of restriction. Where do you draw the line at what laws we should follow and which to ignore in that pursuit of happiness? If I own land and like manufacturing heroin can I grow poppy plants and pursue transforming it to heroin? If they can farm and homestead in areas not zoned for that then why can’t i ignore the laws to do what I want? If only we lived in anarchy... but until then we have to comply with the laws on the books or force enough movement push policy and change law (much longer process and can get costly than just buying the land in the correct location that allows you to use the land in the manner you want).

Jason, for some reason I was not getting your vlogs but I found you. l am back, was a former deputy county administrator, live on 7.78 acres, and live in the township outside the corperation. Thought all was well. I am 67 and your vlog is a kick in the behind. At this time I do not have a problem and so raise; milk cows, goats, geese, pigs, ducks, chickens, quail, rabbits, and aussie dogs. How ever the township has now put in a sewer system and the 80 acre farm behind me has just gone up for developement and caldasacs. Because of problems in the past I was not able, but in 2019 I'm running for township supervisor. That being, so I can put in place pre-existing conditions. My sister who owns 5 acres in a highly developed area has for 45 years had no problems with not mowing her yard, animals and gardening, but now has had a next door neighbor who move in the last 3 months and is already sending her letters from their agents telling her what she has to do. We are going through this now with her and at 71, its hard for her. Things to do, this is our course of action. Step one, go to county, township office to make sure you have the right to do what you want to and then if you do, explain to the official what and why your doing what your doing. Secondly. Meet with your county extension office with your plan and see if it is something they can work with. Showing barns and out buildings, storage areas, gardens, pastures and feed lots, house and living structures, composting and manure handling, etc., even if they aren't there yet. Three, maintain your property to the best of your ability. Four, maintain sight barriars; evergreen trees, tall berry bushes, arborvida trees, elderberry bushes. (a mistake I learned too late so have to catch up.) People don't have to see everything. Five, get along with your neighbors, a dozen eggs goes a long way, tomatoes, veggies, sweet corn, a quart of strawberries, a friendly barbecue, gets neighbors on your side, some one moves in near you, a welcome basket of things from your homestead can make a friend. Every Christmas while the children where young I use to take a dozen cookies to each of my neighbors, they still talk about that, (maybe that's a hint) after 20 years. If still having problems. Six, find a needed platform and run for township office, just to get your foot in the door, once in you can convince, debate, familiarize the others on the board of home-steading benifits. Seven, get involved with homesteading vlogers and if needs be have then write to supervisors, trustees telling them that they will vlog the event on the internet, supervisors don't like mud on their turf. Eight, get a lawyer and fight for pre-existing conditions, they knew what was there when they bought the property, you shouldn't have to change your life style just because it doesn't meet their way of thinking. In my sister problem, situation she's not going to live to be a hundred, 29 years goes fast, they can live with it. Be proactive. Just some thoughts from Pa. so have a great day.

@@CogHillFarmJason, I have been working on guidelines to use in the event of neighbors from the big city moving to the rural areas and then starting problems. I live in a county where amish communities are established, families from the large city south of us, feel that they want the piece and quiet so buy land put up their big homes with 5 and 10 car garages and then complain when the farmer, homesteader spreads the barn cakes all over the fields or has a saw mill, where the wood has soured or the pigs are pastured. That happened to the amish sawmill in our neck of the woods and they had to close that community's livelihood. I will share these ideas and anyone can contact me through my e-mail but here are some thoughts, always look ahead and see what your neighborhood might look like in ten, fifteen, twentyfive years, after your children have grown and left the nest. Good example look where you live growing up, that will give you an idea, and what don't you want to happen to your home. Write those thoughts down. Make a written discription of what your homestead looks like, at its worst and at its best and when you started you lifestyle with dates, dates, dates, and names, names, names of persons who where involved. You worked with or did work for you. To help, when where the children born, when did you get Rover, when did he pass, when did you add the butcher shop, when did the flood wash out the road, chicken house and the duck pond, what else happened during those times, pictures, collectable items and put your scrapbook in a box with the dated collectables, this could be a great project for a family who homeschools. When you go to talk to twp, supersvisors commissioners, city rep. Get names and dates, have them e-mail you information, take pictures and download them with dates, you must establish your life style and prove it supersedes their moving in, anything which shows dates and names. It is very important that you creat, establish, pre-existing situations and document them. If you plan on having sheep, goats, farm animals on your homestead, and you just bought your land, go get a few chicken, or ducks, or goat, because if the "new neighbor" moves in and you get them after they move in they can say you got the livestock to cause grief for them. You can always add to one, you can't add to nothing. Hope this opens some eyes. And helps get some folks seeing the real picture.

Yup. I can relate. I bought 10 acres and got my ducks as babies. Then a yr and half later my neighbor across the road, at least a football field away let's his renters behind his house get 4 big dogs! Not 1 dog but 4. One day not long ago, I catch one of his big dogs inside my duck run chasing my ducks all over their pen. They're safe place. I didn't know they had gotten these dogs until this happened. So I chased the dog away and watched where he went. I found out where it lived so I went over there and told them their dog was at my house. That my ducks were our food. He didn't say much except ask where I lived. After that, that one dog brought all the dogs in the road and sat stared at our ducks for several days. Since that happened, our ducks wouldn't come out. They won't free range. I haven't seen the dogs lately but we can hear them barking and howling. It's sad that you have all this land and we had to build a big fenced area for our ducks. So I understand about neighbors. But we're going to put up better fencing besides our Barb wire to be sure those dogs never bother us again. 😠 Very pathetic. So yes, I totally supporting those other families trying to homestead . God bless all

Powerful truth right here! I lived in a suburb several years ago and the laws got changed to allow us to have 4 hens. So we did everything right and got our hens. Setup the coop like we were supposed to etc. Soon after got a knock on the door.....some code enforcement guy showed up saying a neighbor complained we had a rooster! He already knew that we didn’t because he looked over our fence and saw they were hens. He was actually very cool about it and said we were fine but dont be surprised about the complaints. A while later I found a hen dead. Then another couple weeks I found a 2nd hen dead....and also found a place where someone kicked in the back fence! I’m convinced those neighbors killed my hens....so I gave the other 2 to a friend in the country. We moved! Now out in the middle of nowhere surrounded by woods!

I live in southern Maine.Something like this happened in the town of Arundel a few years ago.A high end development went in next to a family farm. The new neighbors decided they didn't like the noise and the smell from the farm. They went to the town selectman to dictate when and what the farm could do.Luckily the town sided with the farm and refused to interfere. That farm had been in the same family since the Civil War,and the homeowners knew that farm was there when they moved in.This is a case of class war, pure and simple.

Not sure how I missed this. But a little on my story. I have lived in the beautiful mountains of Colorado for nearly 20 years. I was born a Farmer, raised a Farmer. I had to do the daily grind once I got here, so didn't go back to farming right away. But more and more I figured out how to get back to it full time. Just to have a historically epic flooding wipe it off the map. I took the emotional hit for a few years then got back to it(it's what we do, after all).Year by year more people moved around me. Year by year more regulations tightened. Year by year my taxes went thru the roof. and? finally.. I said "that's it. I'm moving". I honestly never thought I would leave here. it's about as beautiful place as there can be. But all the regulations and snarky gentrified neighbors have pushed many a good AG Family folk out. Now .. maybe it's a blessing. After all. My little farm has sold and I am on my way to 80 acres of Heaven in Southern Missouri. Sometimes I wonder if we will ever get humanity back to understanding that if the food isn't grown or raised?? People don't eat. If Cotton isn't grown? Whatcha gunna wear? There was a time where not only was it legal.. but it was considered Patriotic to grow/raise your food sources. Anyone remember Victory Gardens? I could honestly rant about this all day long. It breaks my heart.

Thank you for sharing the plight of Life on Beagle Rd and what happened to Guildbrook Farms. I've been following Big Family Homestead for some time now and knew what happened with them. When my husband and I moved where we're at we were told it was ok to have ducks so we got some Muscovy ducks which are my husbands favorite. They are quiet and we clipped their wings, so they weren't really bothering anyone. But low and behold our neighbor decided to start some trouble and the township said we had to get rid of them. Those ducks hurt no one! Oops maybe they got jealous because we did attract a male and female mallard duck. Lol! Now everything is developed around us. We want to move but don't know where. We're also up in our years. Sorry for babbling so but sometimes it helps to get it out. Life on Beagle Rd are in my prayers, so are you and your family Jason. God bless all the homesteaders!

And even if you have no zoning laws you have to stay vigilant to any potential zoning changes. Been praying for Kenny and Courtney. Thankful they had an attorney. There is a go fund me on Life on Beagle Road if someone wants to help them fight in case you do not see in the top.

This is a wonderful video to make people aware of situations they could possibly run into. It's sad that the only way some people are happy is if they are making others miserable.

I strongly believe in Karma... (I'm a bit squiffy on the saying, hope i get it right) What goes around, comes around; i.o.w. Karma will bite them in the butt & you'll get to know about it!

We bought our dream homestead property about month ago after what seemed like a long search with the number one requirement being land that had ZERO restrictions or covenants. This thanks to the wisdom shared through the painful lessons shared by Guildbrook Farm, Big Family Homestead and Life On Beagle Road.Thank you thank you thank you Cog Hill Farm and all of you for sharing! God bless! .

Thank you for the powerful video. We are on a family owned farm since the 50's and we have 24 acres. There is an ordinance that says pigs or goats here. We are in the country. Thanks. Rhonda

Thank you, Jason, this is a powerful video and just shows how some decisions create an injustice to others, but this can be overcome. This is a call to action! Call their city officials to voice your opinion, call their state senators and representatives, send money to help fight! Don't be a party to inaction! As the mayor of our small community, we are dealing with this issue right down my street, and neighbors voice their concerns to me monthly. We have no zoning and I tell them we don't tell you what you can have as pets and I won't tell them what they can have as pets! I myself have Chickens and I wouldn't get rid of them. FIGHT FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN! Its the only way things will change!

Super deep video... "When you leave this place, are you leaving it a better place? Better then what it is?" Iv lived by this ideal..You know a very wise man that many look up to once said.. "In the end, only three things matter: How much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not ment for you" Tho i myself am only 25,this quote has been my motto for many-a-years.. Many more people should at the least reflect on this.. Because negitivly impacting others lives should not bring one peace... Sure the ducks or chickens may be annoying to some, but unless it popped up overnight years or even months after you moved in, You have no right to complain about anothers lifestyle and how they chose to be joyfull!

It IS a terrible way to live.... to feel so hateful and trapped and inept inside that you take it out on others who are living life on their terms and who are HAPPY. LOVE ALWAYS WINS. Always! 💞🙏🏻💞
