@@johnc5160 ironically enough, Wilco’s “I Thought I Held You” is also laden with a slow-picked banjo and pedal steel. That song appeared on their first album “a.m.” which is what Jay “switches it over to” on “Windfall” on SV’s first album. Coincidence, or?

American culture at its finest...an absolutely sublime performance. A perfect melding of melody, instruments played with subtlety and emotion, harmonised vocals and haunting yet inspired lyrics. Pure, pure magic...I had the pleasure to watch them live at Dingwalls in London, in 1997, a fabulous band.

I’m listening to these guys now in the tail end of 2022 and they are still one of my favourite bands ever. CNN's Anderson Cooper brought me here. He just played a tribute to his friend and colleague Faith Kleppinger (1971-2021) a writer for CNN, whom died of cancer. In the bit he described how she and a friend would text one another about song lyrics. They texted about this song, Faith described the lyrics as "devastating". Then the song played at the end as a photo tribute rolled on with Faith and the people in her life. I Googled the song and here I am..Wow, what a nice pleasant song, thank you Faith & Anderson! R.I.P Faith...

@CJ's Outdoors - Yup, I saw that tribute also & why I'm here. Yeah, that really was so sad watching him struggle to keep his composure & get through it. Made a Son Volt radio station on Pandora. The algorithm pairs them along with Uncle Tupelo or Wilco and occasionally pivots to songwriters like John Prine and even occasional past greats like REM , Neil Young and the Stones. With Son Volt and songs like Tear Stained Eye as the core, it's soooo good. Maybe all time fav.

I think he was, but he isn't now. When I hear a song like "Jet Pilot", I think juvenile, not sophisticated. I'm not cherry picking, either. I think he still has his moments, but from 1991 through Wide Swing Tremolo and his solo records (Gob Iron, too), he still had it. I just don't think his writing is all that compelling anymore.

In December we started hanging out, singing and playing guitars. One of the songs he introduced me to was this beautiful song. Now Matt left 7th comm in Jan 1997 and I did the same in October 1997. Walking down Main Street getting to know the concrete Looking for a purpose from a neon sign I would meet you anywhere, western sun meets the air We'll hit the road, never looking behind Can you deny, there's nothing greater Nothing more than the traveling hands of time? Sainte Genevieve can hold back the water But saints don't bother with a tear stained eye Seeing traces of the scars that came before Hitting the pavement still asking for more When the hours don't move along, worn out wood and familiar songs To hear your voice is not enough, it's more than a shame Can you deny, there's nothing greater Nothing more than the traveling hands of time? Sainte Genevieve can hold back the water But saints don't bother with a tear stained eye Like the man said, rode hard and put away wet Throw away the bad news, and put it to rest If learning is living, and the truth is a state of mind You'll find it's better at the end of the line Can you deny, there's nothing greater Nothing more than the traveling hands of time?
