Magically Beautiful song that touches my heart & brings tears to my eyes . It has me wistfully reminiscing of when I first fell in love with my ex wife - (we are still very close friends 22yrs later but I didn’t want another woman after her) - & this song transports you back to the 1930’s-40’s❤️

This felt like a classic film with Aurora as the timeless movie star of days gone by. The music, the mood, the imagined thoughts and emotions between the two protagonists. She just has a way of expressing so much intent, whether real or imaginary. It just draws you in. Oh, and I love her hair. So perfectly imperfect.

One of the heaviest but most beautiful songs I've heard in the last 10 years. Alzheimer's and dementia are on both sides of my family, and I can't help but feel that I'll be living the life this song describes in the future. Saw the diseases rob two grandparents of everything eventually, though neither had their spouse to witness the descent...which is equally sad and merciful. Thank you for this masterpiece Sondre, and for choosing a counterpart that will help this song last forever!

@@jonathanwetherell3609 I feel for you. My Mom's mom and Dad's Father both hung on for 5+ years after losing most of their faculties. A terrible, dehumanizing decline for sure. Stay strong for him, my friend.

It took me 5 years before I really came to terms with my grandfather's death and Alzheimer's. I wasn't able to get out of bed in the first few years because of how depressed I was with how everything sort of fell apart in our family after the decline of his memory and eventual death. These days I can bear to look at his pictures, but I still end up crying to things that vaguely remind me of him. One day, I hope scientists can discover a way to stop this horrible disease of the brain.

I stumbled across Aurora's Tiny Desk performance in 2020, shortly after my office closed and we were told to work from home. Their music has accompanied my life through some very difficult times, joyous times, etc. I had no idea Aurora had worked with him before, so hearing that they'd release a collaboration, I was ecstatic. My first comment did not properly acknowledge the truly beautiful composition of this song, both musically and lyrically. The line “know you by heart” has its roots in common vernacular when describing your favourite song or movie quote. When expressed as the deep seeded bond between two people on both an emotional and physical level, it captures the essence of true love. Imagining such a love fills your mind with immeasurable joy until you realize how tragic it would be to lose your memories as your mind begins to fade. Sondre disguised the sadness of loneliness and loss in such a beautiful song. In an interview, he said that he had an epiphany to involve Aurora in the recording and this song perfectly matches her sensibilities.

At first I thought they covered some famous classical piece of jazz music (songs like Fly me to the moon ya know, Alone In The Night's vibe kinda sounds like that), but it turned out that this song is completely newly published. Anyway this song is masterpiece. Periodt.

LYRICS: Alone in the night with only the thought of you The stars that come into view, do I know you by heart? When we are apart, how are you so near to me? So vivid, so clear to me, like I know you by heart {Chorus 1: Sondre Lerche, with AURORA} When you want me like I want you We're defenseless to our senses, to our souls But in hindsight, beyond the moonlight At the merciless break of dawn Will we awake and love move on? Our bodies fade at the hands of time Like stars eclipsed in the dark All alone in the night All alone in the night {Verse 2: Sondre Lerche & AURORA} Alone in the night, when you're making love to me We know love instinctively, don't you know me by heart? {Chorus 2: Sondre Lerche, with AURORA} When you love me like I love you We're defenseless to our senses, to our souls But in hindsight, in the twilight At the merciless break of dawn Will we awake? Will love be gone? Our memories slip through the hands of time Like stars eclipsed in the dark, like you and I All alone in the night All alone in the night All alone in the night {Outro: Sondre Lerche, AURORA, both} Alone in the night, how will you remember us If your memory turns to dust? Will you know me by heart? By heart, by heart, by heart
