Pavel,your music and your channel is a great gift. Thank you so much. Do not care about people that dislike your videos. Everything you are doing is good. Your playing is perfect in my ears. You give us 10 minute lessons, but behind that there are so many hours of pre- and postproduction. I´m sure. Thank you. We are living in different countries, but connected by the love for a great guitar player and his music. That is all i can say.So keep on knopflering.(Greetings from Germany)

A little update after I recorded and watched my own lesson: It's just one version of a complex riff, of course there are so many variations, so many possibilities. In the lesson I provide all the tools to build your own version of the lick while being respectful to original.

For which songs? I think not every song deserve doing a tablature... some songs are pretty easy just to follow along, like All That Matters.
@vetou207 жыл бұрын
Well, maybe it's the fact that i'm quite a noob with the guitar but for example for this song having those licks broken down in a tab would be awesome and way easier to study them. B

Amazing I love this, I have to say most people DO NOT EVEN KNOW just how hard this is. Congratulations, I vividly remember when I finally snapped this rhythm out. I thought I’d played it wrong for the 10,000 time an it just was a sonic boom with that A string.

Love all the Knopflering going on here, my favorite channel. Also, your vocals are extremely reminiscent of Mark Knopfler, but have a beauty of their own.

Nikolas Salter Wow, thanks! Maybe I try extra to get the vocals close just for a sake of it, but anyway, it's close because we both can't really sing haha.

I completely disagree, your voice has a very real dusty and warm quality, like Townes Van Zandt but much better, keep singing, love it. Just learned Postcards From Paraguay, first did it on my own as you recommended and then corrected (more than a few) mistakes thanks to you. I'm extremely appreciative, these are beautiful lessons, demonstrations and appreciations of his work.

Hello Pavel, thanks a bunch for sharing this as well. I've only discovered your channel yesterday but now already am playing these songs much more like I 'want to'. I made exactly the same mistake as you described, focusing on the A5 chord.. but the song sounded so dull compared to what Mark was playing - even in the acoustic versions of the song. Can't wait to work on those mutes and including the 6th string in there to finally get that punchy groove going! Thanks a lot!
@PavelFomenkov7 жыл бұрын
Your comments are extremely inspiring, keep it up! I'm glad to find someone who appreciate the attention to detail.
@BookerTDooku5 ай бұрын
Massively appreciated. I'm nowhere near getting this yet - I find the middle finger strum and muting really difficult - but even just trying to get close to these techniques has brought out a lot of new ideas and possibilities. And it's really incredible how much tonal variation comes from the right hand, which I hadn't really consciously focused on properly. Thank you.
@Crotalus877 жыл бұрын
Great Lesson and as usual your attention to detail is impeccable. I had to watch a few times to start understand the involvement of the muted 6th string especially in the "index/thumb" hammer-ons from the 2nd and 4th bars of your intro tab. If Im not mistaken it looks like you are hitting the muted 6th string at the same time as each hammer on? Also Its tough to tell in the video, but to me it almost sounds like you hear a tiny bit of influence from the 4th string during the first hammer-on of the two "bam bams" in each cycle as well? I believe your tab shows the 4th string as muted there, perhaps thats what it means?

Pavel, great lesson! I have struggled with this lick for a while. I had it but not quite...I think you nailed it pretty well. Pavel , I hope you don’t mind me asking a question. You are going over the A7 and diminished triad shapes pretty fast. What diminished triads are they exactly? My guitar teacher is teaching me triads at the moment and it seems Mark uses them all the time, so it’s great theory to learn if you want to learn to play Mark’s music or be inspired by (not copying) by his playing style. I do have the basic riff down (which is an achievement for me) and would love to see I can eventually get the whole song down….

It might be because I’ve never played this song before, but I feel like the main riff, being the beating heart of the song itself, should be fleshed out a little more in this video. You explain what your right hand is doing for the beginning of it, then you kinda zoom through the rest and move on to the second part, making me have to rewatch the same 30 seconds of a 10 minute video over and over to scrutinize what’s going on. Not to say it’s not a damn good rendition of the song, I’d just like to know how to play it is all.
@PavelFomenkov5 жыл бұрын
Hi Kyle, I can imagine looking at my own video that it can get frustrating at times. I'm not the best teacher in the world of course, I merely play my version and explain it a bit, with inspiration in focus, rather than precise analysis. With that said, if I can help with something in particular, feel free to ask. Sometimes one little thing, one little mute or fingering can make a huge difference.

What you are doing sounds pretty good, but I have feeling it still is not it. There is still some problem in the rhythm, I can't tell exactly what it is. But you might be only a 16th away from the objective.
@PavelFomenkov7 жыл бұрын
Sure, I feel like it, too. But I think it's much better to share something being 16th away from the objective, rather than 16 miles from the objective. Thanks for your input, I always love corrections more than approval.
@dawin67107 жыл бұрын
I'm not approving or disapproving. It's an action taken to stop the novice from wasting time and learning a false riff. In music, the most dissonance comes from very close notes and that is true also for the beat. I use a 5 dollar app for iPhone called "Riff Maestro". The correction I can suggest for the folks who want to learn this riff is to use it to slow riff down and learn it right. It is not as fun as a video but when I don't get any joy from KZbin I go to Riff Maestro.
@PavelFomenkov7 жыл бұрын
Ah, I understand. The thing is, people who watch KZbin lessons for the most part don't want to use any apps, in fact, I don't want, too. I used to slow down songs, but I did that about 10 years ago when I was only starting, now I'm fine with picking out songs in normal tempo using regular music player. If you think my version is a false riff, say what you want, I'm fine with it. And if you know any tricks that I missed, I would love to try it out myself. All in all, I think I provide enough tools to learn this riff as close as possible, because you can't learn it perfect anyway, so extra-effrot is not necessary at all.
