ALSO...FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, please explain how the music changes once you get to the chorus. I think that is something else that no human has ever done. I believe it came from the heavens because it’s next to impossible to make the music sound different when the chorus comes. It’s like the music sounds the same but different. it’s like it went up a whole step or whatever the word is, I don’t know. I’ve never done any kind of music or anything class wise. I took music appreciation and College they told me nothing about song structure. Why and how does the music sound different when the chorus comes?

Great content. As an aside: in the radio days, intros really were necessary to allow for the host’s presentation of the songs.

One thing I find frustrating as a listener is when a song ends with a fadeout. Sometimes this can work, if the section being faded out is repetitive, and therefore the listener can imagine it going on forever, in which case it makes "musical sense." But then, if the fadeout occurs with lyrics, something I hear in hip hop a lot, or even a totally new section, it's extremely frustrating on the ears to feel like you're "reaching" for that listen as it slips away. I prefer a nice, solid, decisive ending.

Thank you so much for these videos. I just watched the first part and then this and I feel like I understand it so much better and no one else has it explained it like this. I felt like it was a secret or something because no one elaborated in a way that was easy to understand! So thanks again and keep up the good work!!!

Hi Julian, thank you very much! I'm particularly excited that you are enjoying the series, since it was our conversation that inspired it, thanks again. The next video will cover the final few song sections I want to discuss, and in the couple more following videos I will actually go into detail about how I personally analyze songs' structures. So, if you plan to do more analyzing hopefully that method will help. Thanks again for the positive words, my friend!

Leave the Intro short as possible, keep the Verses Small and the Chorus or "Hook" Big and get to the Hook as quickly as possible. Record A&R People don't want to hear a big introduction especially if you're Demo-ing as a New Band, Performing Singer Songwriter or just a Songwriter until you get your foot in the door and expect that door to shut on your foot a few times just keep persistent.

well if have style that has hook in the intro then it needs to be right length. So not too long and not too short electro rock only time the synth shines is during intro, bridge and maybe the pre chorus.

Thank you so much for these videos!!! This was incredibly helpful, would you be open to do some videos where you make like 1-2 different videos showing you making these combinations into real songs?? I don't know, maybe I'm asking for too much. My biggest problem is making the switch between different sections so the melody changes but I feel like I'm doing it wrong. Anyways thanks for the vids!!

Thanks for this it gives me something to go on. It's challenging trying to put it all together on some if the machines you have to use. Would be dope if it were as easy as taking a piece of paper and a pen and moving them up or down depending on your feelings and could kinda make music with synth sounds and maybe some light effects to add to them so you may make music in a simple way some how Know what I mean?

will you give examples with chords and all in this series?
@TheGhostMall
@TheGhostMall 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Alexandros, thanks for your question! Actually, in this particular series I won't be discussing chord progressions specifically, because I view song structure as distinct from writing harmony/chord progressions. I kind of think of them as different levels: if you zoom out pretty far on a map of a country, for example, you can only see the various states/provinces, major landmarks, etc. To me, that's kind of like song structure; it's the shape of the song. If you zoom in closer, however, you can see cities, roads connecting them, etc. That, to me, is more like the chord progressions in each song section. However, with that said, I will be analyzing a bunch of specific song examples later in this series, and looking at how they put their sections together, though it still won't involve their chord progressions. If you're more interested in chord stuff, though, I have another series called RETRO CHORDS. This video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZouWi2yipZuSfpo - and ESPECIALLY this video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2Sspnx-mNxgedU - may be of some use to you, in that case. I hope this is helpful. Cheers!

So what is a bar exactly I’m confused. Is it like This for example 1. “I went to the moon” this line here is this a bar counted as one? 2. “While riding my car” same here but is it counted at 2? 3. “They tossed a rope on my back tire” same for 3 4. “So I couldn’t get far” and 4? So for these 4 lines this is what you say a bar is? With the tempo count 1-2-3-4 for each line? I’m lost with how vaguely a “bar” is explained Someone please respond to help me understand this .
@magicman2881
@magicman2881 Жыл бұрын
Dude, I have no idea what your explanation of what you think a bar is but here is a simple definition. A bar is a container of notes. The bar's length is defined by the time signature. The most common time signature is 4/4. Meaning a bar is 4 notes (top 4) and each note is a quarter note (bottom 4). When the narrator says 8 bars, he is referring to 8 containers of notes aka measures.
@magicman2881
@magicman2881 Жыл бұрын
It has nothing to do with the lyrics by themselves. A bar can have one word or a hundred

Refrain is something thats repeated in the verses. Typically used in song structures without a chorus. Hook could either be the refrain or chorus depending on the structure.
@dickrichard626
@dickrichard626 2 жыл бұрын
He defined what a hook is and refers to an example of a turnaround. I've never heard of a tag and refrains just happen and don't need an explanation, because it's not an independant section.
