We played it for my channel. Sure, at its heart its an abstract game, but the bird theme adds enough of a gentle air that it warms and softens the experience, making it a prime game for families and people who are fans of Herbaceous. It got my thumbs up too. Dave at Daily Magic really knows how to pick 'em.

The special birds may need some house-ruling. The owl seems rather over-powered, and the rule for the crow is quite clunky. Also I find that aesthetically they do not fit in with the other birdies.

Owl completely breaks the game. Definitely leave it out. If everyone got an owl, then that would be ok. Otherwise, the player that gets it, saves it until near the end and plays it. Other than that, a good game.

I'm not so sure about that. Unlike other card games, players are in control of what suits they want to score with. Having an owl in your hand means you have one less choice on what card to score with at the end. Saving it till your final play means locking into a scoring path on your second to last play. Everyone else still has an option to change their scoring strategy on the final play.

Well, I've only played twice (maybe you've played more & can tell me how to avoid this???). Both times, it decided the winner. Neither time did the owl make the person who played it win. It just made the leader come in second place.

reminds me a little of Arboretum.

This reminds me of seikatsu somewhat, with the scoring being dependent on the rows/columns that the center pieces were played to....I find the artwork endearing in this one, but prefer siekatsu’s complexity and board.

I think I have realized that I hate “virtual grids” , just give me a board or a playmat! I play games with my kids and virtual grids always get sloppy fast. 😢
