This video of "Songo Mikele" is a remake of the original version from the Dave Weckl Acoustic Band release "Of The Same Mind." It features Tom Kennedy (bass), Gary Meek (sax), Makoto Ozone (piano), and Dave Weckl (drums).

A great quartet. Always good to see Tom. We're all getting older now. My musicologist professor, Asher Zlotnik (Student of Fritz Reiner) warned how after age 50 it takes more diligence to keep the same level of technique. But these boys still have plenty of juice left!

it's amazing to me how well these remote sessions work. It was probably done more often than I realized before, but to see it and know it somehow makes it more 'real'. Very tight these gentleman, and Dave is always a treat. His drumming is pretty much instantly recognizable.

I can play some instruments but I always wonder how these pro guys see (visualize/see) the music their are going to play. Because they do that for sure (which is clear when they hit that special accent part/break down in odd metrum etc) And definitely different that I do.
