Small QOL tip for you: Make roads 3 tiles wide, later in the game you'll want to put lighting and statues/trees in to beatify the neighborhoods and with 3 tile roads you can put those lights/statues on the center tile without blocking traffic. Also: This is a game of neighborhoods, try keep service buildings small-ish because you're probably going to end up with another one close by anyway.

It'll be eye-opening when you find out how to se the trade caravans on the world map--stuff you order, like your metal--comes from SOMEWHERE and may travel by sea or land wagons to get to you. It can take MONTHS to arrive.

The buy and sell should be turned into one double-ended slider, drag the left side to buy up to X, drag the right side to sell down to Y.

Nah, it's useful so you can sell meats and stuff when full and buy it if you run out
@Alex_Fahey
@Alex_Fahey Жыл бұрын
You always want those sliders seperate to allow a range of goods in games that have resource management. Otherwise, you end up without an easy way to manage resources with variable sources and draws over time. For example, you might naturally buy a few of a resource you use but don't have a production chain for. If you suddenly recieve a lot of that resource by an event like defeating a raid or conducting one, then you need to change the sliders to sell to deal with the oversupply clogging up storage and then change it back again and do this process every time something like that happens. Alternatively, if you make the sell and buy the same point, you end up losing a lot more money via trading (assuming there is an actual trading system rather than 1:1 conversion). For example, if you are making food every summer then allowing a stockpile range will allow you to get through the winter without buying more. If you have the sell and buy levels at the same point, you end up selling a lot of food when it is cheap in harvesting season and buying a lot of it when it is expensive in winter.

@@aelix56 honestly that's pretty good. it's like an in-between of the eye-bleeding, mind-bending complexity of DF and the simpler, more game-y Rimworld
@agentbarron3945
@agentbarron3945 Жыл бұрын
@@aelix56 DF actually isnt all that complex. 80% of the complexity is just the awful UI (no dissing on the game at all its one of my favorites) but when someone with a few hundred hours of experience has issues building stairs after a long break then its an issue (b-C-x instead of d-i to dig stairs) The simulation is incredibly deep on df yes, but its mostly just that, a simulation, the player has surprisingly little control of their dwarfs compared to rimworld or even this game. Everyone vastly overstates the learning cliff of Dwarf Fortress, but its exactly that, a cliff, once you get up that steep part of learning the ui, there's a plateau on top of a surprisingly easy to play and enjoy game

Not sure if you know this, but you don't need an import depot for a one time import. You can just buy it from the goods menu. This is really useful for things like early weapon and armor.

I'm not sure if this is still true after the latest update, but it used to be that, early-game, the technology-boosting techs were a trap. Technology points decay as a % just like everything else, and the technology-boosting techs would increase your decay more than they increased your research, giving a net negative. Later on, once you had expanded research a bit more, _then_ they got useful.
@xato13
@xato13 Жыл бұрын
There are no knowledge boosting techs anymore but some that unlock the ability to upgrade and refurbish the labs and libraries making them more expensive to maintain but produce more knowledge. Also libraries give a % to laboratories and laboratories work like libraries used except they do not consume paper.

I noticed that there’s an army depot so does that mean that fighting happens in the world or is that just a trade mechanic?
@TumultuousTitan
@TumultuousTitan Жыл бұрын
There's a raiding mechanic to which you can maintain a militia. There is also an army mechanic which you need to supply. The army can fight raiders in the field and go out and conquer territory, but conquering doesn't come till at least 1000 pops and admin is unlocked. The world has "rebel" provinces and empires. The fighting is Total war style but not instanced, though no where near as polished given the resources the single dev has.
