Do you have an actual lyrical reason for not having wonderland? or is the production just not your taste? Because I def don't think it should go. It's too well written for that. I def think Now That We Don't Talk deserved to be on the album, but they didn't have the production right at the time. Also, I just think the wonderland reason feels biased, when arguably the writing is much better than other songs on the album.

@@davisfinney7526 Oh no, no! 😊 Don't worry!! 🤗 I will HAPPILY discuss Taylor's music with other Swifties! 😁 Just cuz we all love her the same, doesn't mean we all have the same taste right? 😉 Okay so here's my thing about Wonderland: I agree with you regarding the writing of the song, it IS very well written. :) I always liked the storytelling of Wonderland, and lyrically it's better than a few of the other songs on 1989. 😊 I can't quite put my finger on it, but it's just something about the production of the song that causes it to have a lower ranking for me. 🤷‍♀️🤔 Now, I'm far from a music expert, but the production of Wonderland feels very different from some of my faves that include Wildest dreams, Style, IWYW, AYHTDWS, Clean and IKP. 😊 Oh yes: that's right!! :O It wasn't all the way done..! ​@@smelis6917 OMG taste! AYHTDWS, IWYW, and Style are some of my favs! That's interesting though, I get that. I can see how the production can be VERY jarring to listen to, especially how it transitions in tone. I just love how the difference between the production in verse/chorus really emphasizes the fantasy vs dark reality of the relationship and wonderland. Thinking about it, I kind of see it as a sister song to king of my heart (as far as production goes), which is another song that's very hit or miss for people. Question...?: is there one specific part of the production you dislike the most? (like chorus, verse, bridge, or an instrument?) or is there any aspects of the production you like? I'm just curious, that song falls short for just as many who love it, and I really want to know where it gets lost on people :) I get jumping the gun, I think I did the same in my response. We just have too much excitement for Taylor :)

Danny is the cutest!! You two are the cutest!! Yes, the vault tracks were written back then but never released. Also, all of them except for Say Don't Go were co-written by Jack Antonoff (you saw him in the Folklore Long Pond Studio Sessions). 1989 was the first album he and Taylor collaborated on. Most of the romance/heartbreak songs are about Harry Styles (Style/Out Of The Woods/Vault) whom she dated from late 2012 to early 2013. At the time, being a fan of Taylor AND One Direction (like I was) was a nightmare. Directioners were RUTHLESS and the slut-shaming was INSANE. Regarding Slut!, honestly after Karma sounded nothing like we thought, I'm not surprised at all that it sounds like this. Taylor is a mastermind after all. She admitted that she had to pick between Slut! and Blank Space because of the similar lyrical theme. She went with Blank Space because it felt more New York to her while Slut! felt more California (she always saw 1989 as a New York album). Easter eggs: “Love thorns all over this rose” paralells with Blank Space's “Rose garden filled with thorns". Also, you should totally listen to and watch the music video to The Man. It delves deeper into the theme of sexism and double standards. Say Don't Go is my favourite vault song and the chorus is my favourite part! It definitely sounds like early Taylor (Fearless/Speak Now) but also has a hint of Midnights. I just love it. It is co-written by songwriting legend Diane Warren. The song you're talking about is You Are In Love (with the silence lyric). Easter egg: “Fading into madness” and "Cheshire Cat smile" links back to Wonderland, which I LOVE (sorry not sorry) so it makes sense. Now That We Don't Talk is like a mix between I Wish You Would and How You Get the Girl. It's the shortest song in Taylor's entire discography. The abrupt ending of the song perfectly fits the abrupt ending to the relationship. She said it didn't make the album because they couldn’t get the production right at the time. Easter egg: "You grew your hair long" which Harry did in 2014. Suburban Legends is probably my least favourite of the vault but still really good. Easter eggs: “I had the fantasy that maybe our mismatched star signs would surprise the whole school” - Taylor is a Sagittarius while Harry is an Aquarius. "Waves crash on the shore, I dash to the door” - Water is a recurring theme throughout 1989. Is It Over Now? is sort of a sister to Out Of The Woods and I Wish You Would. There are MANY easter eggs: “You dream of my mouth before it called you a lying traitor” - Taylor also hinted at infidelity in Style “I heard that you’ve been out and about with some other girl". "Was it over when she laid down on your couch? Was it over when he unbuttoned my blouse?" and "At least I had the decency to keep my nights out of sight" implies they both cheated but Taylor was better at hiding it (which is kind of messed up lol). “Whеn you lost control, red blood, white snow” - Taylor and Harry were involved in a snowmobile accident, which she also referenced in the bridge in Out of the Woods “Remember when you hit the brakes too soon? Twenty stitches in a hospital room". "Blue dress on a boat” - Referencing an iconic photo of Taylor leaving, alone, after she and Harry had been on vacation, allegedly taken shortly after they broke up . “Your new girl is my clone" - Don't know who she's talking about but it parallels Harry's own lyric in From the Dining Table “Woke up the girl who looked just like you, I almost said your name". “You search in every model’s bed for somethin’ greater” - Harry was rumored to have dated a few models following their break-up. "Let's fast forward to 300 takeout coffees later" - A deeper dive reveals a reference to Clean "10 months sober I must admit, just because you're clean don't mean you don't miss it". If you had one coffee a day it would be about 10 months. So, the math is mathing. Honestly 🛴 was a blessing in disguise, otherwise we probably would never have heard these songs!

pretty sure all of these are about Harry Styles, he was the big heartbreak during this album. she also made several references to him throughout the vault tracks. he grew his hair long after their breakup, "red blood, white snow" is about the snowboarding accident he got into with Taylor, he dated a few girls that looked a lot like her (even wrote a song about it himself lmao), "blue dress on a boat" was about when he left her, there was this famous picture of her sitting alone on the boat afterwards in a blue dress, and slut! is about the amount of slut shaming she recieved while dating him. when she said "everyone wants him, that was my crime" it was about his fans attacking her for dating him only because they're jealous. they did this with every relationship he got into. just some interesting background info about the vault tracks :)

Most of these were left off because she felt the production wasn’t quite there and since the rest of the album was extremely solid she kept them off. Can I please make a request? You really should check out Hayley Williams and her Band Paramore. There’s a few songs I think you would really like vocally. Specifically, album version and live versions of All I Wanted, Decode, Still into You. Still into You there’s a video of her recording her raw vocals and it’s straight up amazing.

I honestly love when a song makes me expect an echo or a line to repeat and it’s not there, because it still plays in my head, and the disparity gives the empty space an emotional resonance that wouldn’t be there if the words were just there or if I wasn’t expecting them. It’s the difference between just getting hit in the chest or getting the wind knocked out of you, or like the sensation of your heart skipping a beat and how that second without a beat feels twice as long, and the beat after the skip feels twice as deep (don’t worry, I went to a cardiologist lol).
