Orpheus has a high voice to set him in contrast to Hades who has the most amazing earth shaking bass. It's a bit of a nod to baroque opera, which makes sense. The myth of Orpheus was kind of popular material back then, I believe.

Hadestown is based on a greek myth about a couple by the names of Orpheus and Eurydice and that's all I'm gonna say incase you wanna explore it a bit more (which I highly encourage you to do because its amazing)

you NEED to listen to "how long" it really showcases amber gray (persephone)'s voice and patrick page (hades)' voice. Gray's style is amazing and really fits with the theme on the musical and Page's incredibly deep bass really forms a lovely juxtaposition to Reeve Carney's Orpheus.

The scenography/choreography/lighting combination in Hadestown might actually be my favourite I have ever seen in a musical, and that is saying a LOT. Like yeah the vocals are fantastic and they're what I fell in love with first but every other part of the production? Is what made this shoot into the top five if not just straight up my favourite musical. Everything just matches the music and the story so perfectly, and reinforces it. I think it really highlights how important offstage and backstage jobs are: this production would not be nearly as good without the work of the choreographer, the costumier, the light designer, the scenographer, and so on. The music would still be fire though xP

Oh, yes! The all-around unified production of Hadestown is mind-blowing. Everything: the lighting, the set design, the choreography, the vocals, the band, the musical arrangements, the storytelling, the lyrics, the incredible chorus, the acting... Each component is gorgeous on its own but the way that all of it works together and every piece works to uplift and honor each other piece is like literally nothing else I've ever seen on Broadway. *Maybe* some opera masterpieces could compare, but of course the style is totally different.

Saw this live on tour. This production is toned down a bit (if you can believe that) because if I'm not mistaken this was the Tony's Award performance. In the actual show the song is longer and there's a rotating, multi-leveled stage that they utilize for some pretty amazing choreography. Reeve Carney just finished his final Broadway show after playing this role for 6 years. As you can probably tell, he simply IS this character and it's kind of hard for anyone else to live up to that.

The entire musical is sung through, so you can get the whole story by listening to the broadway cast album (in order)! Sadly no video for most of the numbers, so you miss some of the cool visuals, but the music really speaks for itself. I was about to suggest single songs from the album too, but... they're all fantastic, and build on each other so well throughout the musical. 100% would recommend going through the whole thing so you get the best impact (especially from each reprise.... because they're so damn good)

OK, obviously I need to do some instructing here. This musical was composed over 10 years on the GUITAR, not piano. Hence the higher octave for the male part of Orpheus. And btw, this is a classic GREEK TRAGEDY. Got it?

Hadestown is AMAZING!! I know you have already did your SIX run... but I was wondering if you could check out the new video on The Show Must Go On KZbin channel where the og cast sings Ex-wives. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5-5opl3Yp2sr7s. Also if you are looking for a video that has Phillipa Soo in it, try her sing No One Else from Great Comet. BTW do you have any advice for someone who wants to learn to sing, but is a terrible one
