Just discovered this. Guy Clark was my major influence, and I had the privilege to meet him twice in the UK . Last time he was playing in London - was July 2006 I had two front seat tickets. I had a sudden heart operation the day before. Still got those tickets!

Don't sleep on the dude sitting beside him . Verlon is one of the best guitarist in country and folk . But Guy Clark is part of the Townes Van Zandt cult. They were very close . Townes , Guy Clark, Kris Kristopher, Steve Earle ( my cousin ) , Blaze Foley , and a few others are what really kicked off the outlaw country. If you haven't heard Townes, listen to it now . I'm not alone saying that he is the greatest American songwriter and one of the best solo performers to ever live. He's pretty known in the uk one of frank turners biggest influences. I'd put him up there with Gordon Lightfoot, and I think he's better than Dylan. But I'm from Texas and Townes Van Zandt is like the folk hero now. And I met him and Bob Dylan in the same night as a 7 year old child. Keith and Mick were fans of Townes as well. I like songwriters

When Guy Clark released Boats To Build, he came to Leon Springs Cafe, I took my wife to go see him and it was sold out, but on the way back to the car he was just on the other side of an open window where we could see and hear him! Best goddamn show I was never let into! I'm glad they refused us, because the hood of the car we leaned on was the best seats in (or out) of the house!

Verlon has remained sober. Face is still young.

2 dislikes? Maybe You Tube should replace the dislike button option with a 'not my cup of tea' button... C'mon, who on earth could/would dislike this?

35 years of hard living. Look at him in 1975 heartworn highways he was so young. Quit smoking & drinking kids. Or was it just the songs writing that face.
