I have always said, if you hear the climax of this song and you don’t have chills running up and down your body, you aren’t human! This is probably the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard!

Nessun Dorma is probably the most beautiful aria ever written for the male voice...and when sung by the Maestro, it is transcedental.

Nessun Dorma ( "no one sleeps") is an aria from Puccini's opera "Turandot", sung by all the great ( and near great ) opera stars (male and female)........this is probably the most moving rendition of all....R.I.P., Maestro Pavarotti......

One of the things I like most about this is that he performs as I'm guessing he would if he were doing the actual opera. He's not just a singer showing emotion to an audience, he is that character and there is no audience. He could be standing on top of a battlement at night, awaiting the dawn, and thinking out loud or praying to his God. Facial expressions at the end are exquisite...

Puccini...vastly underrated composer. He didn't want his audience to think, just feel, and thus was maligned by many of his contemporaries, as well as by allegedly highbrow music scholars. Pavarotti...one of the greatest interpreters of this brilliant aria. The first time, and even the fiftieth time you hear that high note...wow. As great as that aria is, in my opinion the music that follows, the death scene of Liu, just might be the best music Puccini ever composed. Glad you were into it. If you open your ears and your mind to this music, you will not be disappointed!

Puccini may have been underrated by his contemporaries. I don't believe anyone who knows his music today thinks so.

As you say he channelled something from heaven in this song and realised he had done so at the finale.

Regardless if you are familiar with, a fan (or not) of Opera as a genre, you can still appreciate the natural talent & dedication of this legendary tenor to become one of the best this modern world has ever seen. This was recorded back in 1994 when Luciano was 59 years old. How many modern day pop stars half his age can belt out notes like he did? Sadly, very few these days. This was back before auto tune & done in front of a live audience consisting of over 75,000 people. This is just an aria (solo part) of the opera "Turandot" by Giacomo Puccini, written in 1924 & first performed in 1926. The world lost a tremendous talent when Luciano passed away in 2007. I'm glad that my 2nd favorite tenor, Andrea Bocelli, is still alive & singing his heart out... When I was a kid I didn't like opera much because to my immature & unsophisticated ears, it all just seemed like a bunch of yelling done in singsong form & I couldn't understand the words. It wasn't until I was in my late teens/early 20's when I began to fully appreciate what it took to become a trained classical (aka opera) singer. You don't have to understand the lyrics in order to feel the raw passion behind each performance. Great music & incredible natural talent transcends all languages & ages. Luciano was once quoted saying that his vocal cords were kissed by God. Yeah, no truer words were ever spoken. His whole body is a cathedral of angelic sounds. ❤ I saw another comment which is so spot on "Hearing your first opera with Luciano singing is like taking your very first car ride in a Rolls Royce"

Nessum Dorma is an aria or solo from the opera Turandot composed by Puccini in the 1890’s. It is the story of a man who traveled to a kingdom were he met and fell in love with the daughter of the king. He asked him for permission to marry his daughter. The king told him that he first had to solve three riddles. Unknown to him, the princess didn’t love him. If he couldn’t solve the riddles, he would be put to death. This aria was sung in the final act as he awaited the king’s decision. 😊

An absolutely beautiful commentary with a very unique and descriptive analysis. I probably listened to over a hundred of these reactions and you communicated above and beyond most of them. The heavenly and angelic - out of the body and back experience of going to heaven looking through pearly gates to catch a glimpse of the sights and sounds of paradise, only to return to earth as a humbled human being forever changed, a better person for the experience. I actually first saw The Three Tenor, 1994 Los Angeles, performance on a PBS TV Fund Raiser. With a donation at a certain level then you would get the DVD and some other related paraphernalia. I donated and got the DVD, and now I watch his performance through reaction videos, and relive my initial reaction which occurred some 30 years ago.

I never tire of hearing this. Your verbal descriptions of how it felt to you, are wonderful. “Getting to Heaven,” and “out of his body,” (I’m paraphrasing but you know what you said.) and I absolutely loved your reaction. I remember beginning to hear the buzz about this man, because I was around then: “have you heard Pavarotti sing?” “Hey, you gotta hear this!” And so on. Great job!

I just LOVED watching the look on your face while you were watching Lucio Pavarotti for the first time. Just to let you know, I am a 70-year-old white woman from the south. I was raised on Rock, R&B, Soul, Jazz, & Rockabilly music. I mentioned all these different kind because if I like the music I listen to it. I don't just listen to one kind of music I have to feel it in my soul and in my heart. My cousin introduced me to the music of Mr Pavarotti when I was 15 years old. OMG !!!! There are but a few singers that can same to transport your soul to heaven ;""even if it's not but for a short time. To name a few Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, Della Reese, Jimi Hendrix, Barry White, with these great singers I'm sure you know the other ones that I have in mind. I'm not really one into a lot of Opera, but thanks to when I listen to this gentleman for the first time there are a few others that I do like that sing opera. There are only a few that get the gift from God that can sing and give us a glimpse of what heaven must be like. when someone can sing and make your heart swell and feel like your spirit is being lifted Lord there's no better than that. God bless you for heaven Pavarotti on your show, and I'm sending much love to you and yours. ❤️❤️❣️❣️ Carry on with what you're doing and God bless you.

As a music lover of all types I cannot even begin to tell you how much I appreciate your reaction! This is a great rebuke to the young white lady who posted on KZbin "the music of 18th century western European cis straight white male composers is an example of white supremacy". People like yourself view the world through rose colored glasses, seeing the beauty in it and all that there is to discover. She on the other hand views everything with such a narrow view that she will never see the power and beauty in an aria like Nessun Dorma sung by one of the worlds greatest tenors that you just experienced. Well done young man!

Unfortunately we actually cannot see his face because of the overlay so for this one it would be nice to have some other way because I have seen a lot of people react to this and you can usually see his face and of course that's one of the most compelling things about the performance other than his incredible voice. That look at the end though, going from memory, he is totally lost in this and 100% immersed and he delivers this fantastic performance and at the end there's a look in his eyes as he slowly comes back out of it, it's like he's just starting to realize what he actually just did. I love that. There is a saying in singing where you have to drop for the top, meaning you got to drop your jaw and really open all that stuff up to hit the high notes, and Pav here exemplifies that perfectly. If you watch it again, especially there at the end, look at how low and open his jaw is. It's amazing. But in order to do that, you better have an awful lot of breath support and of course he does. That's what made him one of the greats. I would also point out that he was an interesting man. As highly as he was respected, he also paid compliments to others and even did some collaborations for example with James Brown and he also gave kudos to Elvis Presley and others.

Pavarotti in the video linked below of Vesti La Giubba demonstrates his acting ability as well since it's a snippet from an actual opera. It also includes subtitles. As background, his character in this opera is the head of a group of traveling entertainers. Just before he sings this piece, his character discovered that his wife was having an affair and planning to run away with her lover. He asks if he is a man, then laughs and answers that he is a clown. So, the show must go on by keeping up a funny front while his heart breaks inside. (Note that Caruso's 1902 recording of Vesti La Giubba was the first record to sell a million copies.) kzbin.info/www/bejne/pprIepqjpb9niNE

Hello back again. I'd like to thank whoever for the like on my comment. But to you sir I will warn you, as much as you enjoyed listening to him sing. If you close your eyes and do not open them until he finishes. I swear you can literally feel every cell in your body. You can feel the blood rushing through every vein that you have. But I will warn you, if you listen to it this way. I don't know how else to describe it, but it will feel like your heart swells to the outside of your body but at the same time you almost feel like you can't draw a breath of air. It gets to the point to where you have to open your eyes so the pressure and the the experience or rapture can be taken down a notch. Is almost like it's too much for a mere human to take. God asked one of his angels to lend their voice to this mortal man and it's almost too much for other mortals to hear it. I'm sorry I I really don't I don't think I have good enough words to to describe the feeling ? Please forgive my lack of words. May God bless and keep everyone safe and healthy.
