I honestly don’t think Labyrinth Zone is worse then Marble Zone, I didn’t have to take multiple days to recuperate so I can get back to Labyrinth Zone but I did for Marble Zone. There is just so much bull thrown at you and your expected to be so careful and precise in this game that’s mostly been speed up until this point- And if anyone tells me that I just need to get good, well I did. I did as I went along. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t mentally draining and that it basically took all of the soul out of me while the only hard part about Labyrinth Zone for me was the stupid boss.

this was my first sonic game and I first played it like 20 years ago. I still haven't finished it. Maybe I should. I remember being stuck in the first water zone everyone likes. Now that I am a more experienced gamer, I should be able to easily beat it.

I can agree. I love classic Sonic, but Sonic 1 is hard to love. Green Hill Zone and Starlight Zone were both very good, Scrap Brain and Marble Zone were mediocre, and the less said about Labyrinth Zone the better. Especially compared to other classic Sonic games, Sonic 1’s zone lineup is pretty bad.

That wasn't an argument, that was a statement, and also yes, there probably would be. The game as a game is bad and shouldn't have been done, but it is extremely obvious and implied that they should have instead jumped straight into what they did for example, for Sonic CD and Sonic 2, they both capture much better the design philosophy of Green Hill and the advertising of the "fast cool new game" and stuff.

Lack of speed is not a problem, in fact Sonic's problem is precisely speed, as it automates gameplay. In that sense Sonic 1 is actually the best, because it presents a good balance between rhythm and platforming. Sonic 1's problem was the lack of variety (6 zones with 3 acts each, and with a similar approach). Even the Master System counterpart did better in that aspect, adding variation in each act (for example, act 1 of Jungle Zone goes from left to right and act 2 consists of going up without being able to go down, losing if you do).

I like Sonic 1. Definitely not the greatest game but it’s the Sonic game I replay the most along with Sonic 2, and it’s a lot better than most of the “modern” stuff. Marble Zone is my favorite level though so maybe I’m just broken
