Honestly, if you've seen New Frame Plus' video on sonic animation, you'd see that these animations fix pretty much all of his negatives with the gameplay animation. The full speed animation is smooth as butter (ex. 2:05), and the walking and jogging animations are nice and bouncy. The startup also doesn't spaz out at all like it does in the base game. All in all, this is amazing work!

may be a weird take but I liked how bouncy and 'natural' Sonic and Shadow's animations were in the original. This mod makes their running animations seem more glidey like the terrain doesn't matter. Shadow kicked his feet faster when at full speed and Sonic run arms pumping until he got fast enough to do the typical Sonic 'arms behind the back' run. The shakiness of both Sonic and Shadow when they were running top speed added a level of depth to their speed that isn't emulated well here Also why replace Sonic's voice with Jason? Ryan did a great job in SA2

Love the squash and stretch, vanilla anims looked a bit stiff without them, but I think Shadow's high speed animation is less impactful. Also Sonic and Shadow doing different grinds each time they're on a rail is missing.

I actually love Shadow's high speed animation - it looks effortless, like it just comes naturally and easy to him, instead of him basically running while wearing skates like every other animation past the original SA2 version has him do.

I love every animation on this but my main gripe is the running animation I feel its too stiff like his body barely moves the old animation it had more power to it which made it feel like hes really moving fast if that makes sense

He starts off Bobbing up and down Then once he goes fast enough, it’ll look like he’s standing still and his feet are a blur He’s coasting Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast did this as well He’s not putting much effort into staying at top speed If there were to be fine tunings he would very slightly bob up and down

If you look at the biomechanics of actual running you’ll see the upper body only bobs up and down slightly. The up and down bobbing motion in the original running animation is way too excessive. It only looks ok when the animation is slowed down. At high speed it looks like a strobing, distracting mess.

This is a really good concept for a mod given the vanilla game has sorta stiff gameplay animations, and I love the new animations for everything unrelated to walk/run cycles, but there's problems. The full speed running animation is under-exaggerated to the point his torso and head are 100% static and unanimated, there isn't enough movement in the neck and hips in general, and the lower speed walking/jogging animations overshoot so much that he moves like a puppet on strings

I am impressed with the character animations. The characters move more natural and distinct from one another as they walk and run. Sonic naturally moves as he should from the modern games where I get to see the arms behind him as he runs. I like the inclusion of him having a clear midair animation of his pose from the Sonic Adventure cover, although I think he needs one or two more midair animations for more variety. Shadow's jet skating animations look as smooth as they can be, especially with how he moves in Sonic X Shadow Generations. Knuckles and Rouge feel more nature compared to Sonic in terms of running animation. From the original game, because of how they have lower frames of animation while running, it comically gives the illusion that they run as fast as Sonic in the treasure hunting levels. Now they look like while they can try to keep up with Sonic, they can't match his speed without making it look phony, especially in enclosed spaces. For the speed levels, I like the inclusion of shortcuts that make discovering them feel rewarding with a handful of easter eggs. For City Escape, I like the inclusion of the rainbow from the lyrics about "following my rainbow." I like how you get to see it from a distance by the time song gets to the lyric. Not sure why you have two, but that is a nice touch. I like the inclusion of the natural progression of lighting as it goes from day light to late afternoon. Things are looking pretty sharp from this footage with attention to detail. Well done.

Honestly... other than Shadow's and Rouge's, I'm not a fan of the run/walk cycles. The walk feel a little TOO bouncy, and the full speed run almost doesn't feel finished with ONLY the legs moving. That being said, everything else is FANTASTIC 👌

I'm sorry brother no hate and no disrespect, as someone who skated (rollerblade) for most of my teenage life, grinding, ramps, all of that. I dont know why people keep effing with shadows OG skating animation. It is perfect! the body positioning the quickness of his movements. that is my one critique in everything you've showed here. I personally find that Shadows og skating animation was and still has yet to be topped any game mod that has come up. Its just too slow.
