@Alter2924 жыл бұрын
Arthur Morgan Agreed. I enjoyed the movie a lot. It set itself up well and the payoffs were good. Now you take a movie like the Incredibles 2 and you can tell the difference. Onward is certainly a step upward.

There's a difference between escaping faat and "noticing you need to escape as fast as you can" Sonic has the fastest legs, but definitely not the fastest reflexes.
@Hi_Just_Fred3 жыл бұрын
This happens a lot with any character that has super speed and/or enhanced reflexes. It comes down to if they're anticipating something vs. if they're surprised. Not sure how accurate it'd be in real life, since these things are naturally fantastical, but usually even if someone has good reflexes they can still get caught off guard. I'm assuming Sonic actually needs to tap into his power, it honestly seems less like pure super speed (since you kinda need to *move* and he's shown standing still many times) and more just he bends reality and thus can move much faster than normal. At the end of the day it's a movie about a Blue Hedgehog person in sneakers, so the "laws" behind how the powers work doesn't matter much as long as the film doesn't try to explain it away to fit into real world logic when it just naturally can't. :P

I thought of the whole exposition of fantastical creatures forsaking magic in order to live more organized, convenient, but boring lives as an analogy to how we give up a lot of interesting things in order to integrate ourselves into the way civilization operates now. And the message is to feed and nurture that more primitive but soulful part of yourself. Also, the brother dynamic was just amazing. I don't get how you can't see that.

The movie was good to understand and to enjoy for somebody who never played a Sonic game before. I actually laughed at the appearance of Sanic, because I never expected a million dollar movie to make this kind of fan service. From all bad video games Adaptations, from Doom Anilloation to the Mario Movie, It managed to be above average, even with all preperations leading to failure, (Seriously, WHO made the first design.) I mean we're still talking about SONIC, how couldn't it have been bad. I know Im making many excuses to praise this movie, but it's like a quartrible amputatet reach 4th in a sprint competition.
@TusharSundarka4 жыл бұрын
I agree with a lot of the stuff you said, except for the fact that 'Sonic' was a reason it could have failed. Sonic is an extremely interesting character and has a phenomenal design. It doesn't matter that the games don't do much with that nowadays, Sonic is still and has always been great as an idea, but SEGA's execution has been lacking in recent times.
@rageinternet93914 жыл бұрын
Due to me being more invested in the Sonic series and understanding the formula on how this 'Sonic hatedom' can be, your "I mean we're still talking about SONIC, how couldn't it have been bad" gave me a bit of second hand cringe due to the media loving to shove this 'Sonic = Bad' narrative down your throat but it seems to me that you came up with your actual own independent and confident opinion on the movie as if you actually watched it yourself instead of relying on 'funny reviewers' to tell you what to think which I hope you do the same on the rest of the Sonic series if you haven't already. (This video is what made me understand people who say things like 'comon this is Sonic, of course it's bad' and how toxic they can be: kzbin.info/www/bejne/epbbemVoZ9RomcU)

My thoughts on the movies: Sonic: Haven't watched it. Frozen 2: It was okay. I wouldn't say it was better than the first movie, which I felt almost the same way about, but it's still decent as far as Disney sequels go. Onward: A pretty solid Pixar movie, even if you don't get the same epic Pixar feel towards it as you do with many of their earlier films.The family theme was very touching and it was easy to relate to both brothers and their experiences, since I've usually very cautious like the youngest as well as nerdy like the oldest, while also having a younger sister and plenty of family drama over the years. This probably ranks third among my favorite modern Pixar films that aren't sequels, with the second being Inside Out and the first being Coco. Invisible Man: Haven't watched it. Portrait of a Lady On Fire: This film was kind of tough for me to love, and this is coming from someone who likes French cinema and studied French in high school. I appreciate what they were trying to do and certain aspects of it were a bit interesting, but it was a little too slow for me at times. However, the ending was impressive, showing how even when we do our best to hide it, we can still be heavily impacted by our first experience with love, coming off all the more strongly in this case because of how it would have been impossible to carry on with their relationship in those times. I still preferred Parasite over this film, despite how weird that movie was, but it's still decent enough if you're willing to pay close attention and are in the mood for a romantic drama that makes you think.

From a fans perspective, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie was better than it had any right to be. We've come a long way from the initial first teaser poster back in December of 2018 (fuck, was it that long ago? Damn). I had very-doubfull-but-desprately-hopeful (coming out of the first trailer) to sceptically-luckwarm-but-causiosly-optimisic (coming out of the second trailer) expectations before it finally graced the big screen on Valanetines Day. I'm very glad it surpassed my expectations. It's was a solid 3/5 stars movie for me. Nothing really amazing or anything, it was just a fun watch. Very much enjoyed Sonic as a character & his journey in this movie and the overall themes that the movie presented us. Jim absolutely nailed Eggman's character, and the human characters were pretty serviceable. And I greatly appreciate the nods/references to Sonic lore and other piece of Sonic media in this movie as well; pretty much showed that the film makers cared and were fans of the source material. For a movie in this genre of "Animated character(s) interacts with human actor(s) in the real world", this is definitely one of the best out there. 2:24 - 2:37 What they have set up here has a lot of get potential for future sequels, and going by some of the interviews on this movie, this is probably what they're going to do in the sequel. The director of the film confirmed that the movie was a bit more ambitious than what he got. Ideas that were intended to be in this movie were unfortunately scrapped due to the Movie's 95 million budget; Sonic traveling through different worlds via by using his bag of rings being one those scrapped ideas. But since the movie instantly made it money back, it very likely that these scrapped ideas will finally be fully realized in the sequel, which make be very excited! Can't wait for the sequel, man! So happy that this movie did so well! Probably one of the best redemption stories I've seen for movie. So happy that the general public is enjoying this movie; it make me feel validated as a longtime fan of the franchise, and it feels *SO* good, man! Ya done good, Sonic. Keep it up!

Portrait of a Lady on Fire was brilliant. For all the reasons you stated, but especially because of how it approaches the art of painting and translates it into cinematic form. The colors, the staging, the shots - it's all intensely picturesque and (to my eyes) purposefully evocative of paintings form the Romantic period, which I believe corresponds to the era in which the story of the movie takes place. I would suggest looking into paintings from Caspar David Friedrich (one of the greatest Romantic painters), as some of the shots from this movie seem to be a direct reference to his work.
