Storywise it was just *weird.* It felt like it was going weirdly dark for some reason, like with Eggman's faked death, Tails being fake roboted, and Sonic's friends dying while he considers giving up. It's like the second darkest game to Shadow the Hedgehog and that shit had Shadow murdering Eggman.

It is still my personal belief that Sonic Lost World was supposed to be a Colours sequel, and the Lost World or Lost Hex the game takes place in was one of the planets from Eggman's amusing park in space. But for some strange reason they decided to just forget Colours despite the game obviously taking heavy inspiration from it. The Zeti could have been wisps gone bad or corrupted by Eggman's exploitation of them, and thus making a direct consequence of his actions that he now has to deal with.

Yea, this is where Pontac & Graff's shtick started to get really old. If they were just writing for spin-offs, it be less of an issue but sadly it's not a case here. Probably the weirdest part of this game character-wise is the fact that Amy wasn't acting constantly clingy over Sonic and her genuine kindness for animals like the bird from Sonic Adventure had returned yet was still reduced to the sidelines with Knuckles of all people.

It isn't weird at all... considering that the current writers don't know or care about how the Sonic cast was like in past games, or in general. At this point every character in the franchise has been turned into an almost complete blankslate of a character, or flanderized beyond recognition. And don't even expect anything meaningful from the Adventure games to come back in the current games like character traits; Tails's portrayal in Forces showed me that nobody at Sega knows anymore who these characters really are.

I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking that. The level design is so much better than the Wii U version, more traditional and fast paced. Even the parkour is better. Some people thought the levels were too long but I never personally had an issue with length.

look guys, i agree with both of you, but it only applies to like 5 levels, and the rest are either plagued by overuse of a gimmick (like the snowman level) or a wisp (like the casino level with asteroid) that being said the sky road act where you ride on rockets, run while avoiding the dragons fire and in some cases can only access certain shortcuts and powerups by outrunning him is genuinely generations levels of extremely good level design

I mostly agree. Level design on the 3DS gets really atrocious. On Wii U it's still bad time to time but you have a Yoshi and Zelda stage at least. There's literally one level on 3DS where you have to slowly move as an asteroid for several minutes. But the 3DS version has proper special stages. Some bosses are better on 3DS. Although forgettable, I'd say the soundtrack on 3DS is actually better.

This was the first modern 3D Sonic game where I felt like the gameplay was able to spiritually match the momentum based feel from the Mega Drive games. Like, I don't mean that it plays like the mega drive games, but I mean it actually gave Sonic a sense of momentum and control not really seen in any of the other 3D games that just had you shifting lanes or boosting through obstacles. The run button was actually pretty smart since it allowed you to precisely control Sonic's movements. And the spindash is pretty powerful in general in this game. I remember around release the reviews for the game were pretty interesting. It got shit on by critics in the USA, but international reviews favored it pretty well. I recall there being a small meme where IGN America gave it a really low score while all the international divisions of IGN across the world gave it much higher scores. I would have loved to see a sequel or successor released that improves this gameplay style. If you took this same exact gameplay style and put it in an open world setting where you can traverse nearly anything as Sonic, I think it would do pretty well.

Lost World’s story was the only one actually written by Pontac and Graff themselves. For Colors, Generations, and Forces, the stories were written by the team in Japan, and Pontac and Graff were brought in for the jokes, but for this one, they were given free rein. That’s why I find it weird that this is the only game they’ve had a hand in that actually attempts character drama, even if it didn’t work.

And for me colors DS story isn't that bad (it doesn't have baldy mcnoisehair so that is good). 4:11 Okay, this has bothered me for a while now but do people just forget about the scene before this one that clearly shows tails doing something to the machine to keep from getting robotocized or am I just missing the actual point of this critique because I always see people bring it up despite the fact that you could very easily reason that tails just disguised himself (with the arm cannon being an invention of his) as one to sell the ruse. The fact that a lot of 64 bit era games went to 30 or 20 doesn’t mean older games had the limitations (most 8-16 bit era games usually go to 60 except for the graphically intense ones like star fox) It’s also the reason why most emulators have 60fps options but no 120fps option

I actually think Lost World has alot good going for it. The whole trope behind the Zeti might be dumb, but it’s a cool trope in my eyes that can help create some unique and diverse character designs. Speaking of which, their designs are probably the greatest in any Sonic game, with my favorite one being Zazz. It was also a time when Eggman wasn’t the main villain, which was a trope for many Sonic games under the sun. I also like the whole tunnel and diverse level design thing. It’s a unique concept that I think has never ever been done before, unless you wanna count Super Mario Galaxy. Also, the music.

I like Sonic Lost World. Not the best Sonic game ever but still enjoyable. I think seeing how mixed this game was and how bad Boom was, it made Sonic Team give us Sonic Forces. Lost World was something new. Boom was a spinoff but also something new. It was bad so they needed to get back in the good graces of fans so they looked at how liked Colors and Generations were and brought back the boost gameplay for Forces. They needed more so they added Classic Sonic and then added something fans have been wanting, the create an avatar feature for good measure. They somehow fucked it up along the way and we're right here where we are now.
