Great plane. I've had mine about 3 months. I chose to put iNav with auto-launch on mine as a test bed before building the full-size model in hopes of saving my fingers from the larger prop on the larger model. Works great!

I'm building this plane at the moment, the wing reinforcement plate that came with mine is fibreglass and definitely not carbon fibre. Something I've not figured out yet are the two small oblong pieces of fibreglass with two holes in them, I can't see what they are for and they are not in the instructions! Nearly finished laminating the plane so maybe during construction I'll discover what they are for but so far I haven't been able to figure them out!
@AndrewNewton5 жыл бұрын
Same here, maybe FPV gear mounting?
@stevefox37635 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewNewton So you never figured the extra bits ether :) I did wonder they were for something like fpv but the holes done seem to match anything on the craft or any fpv gear or even servos, a total mystery ha ha.

I fitted landing gear to my V2, 1300kv 2830 40 amp esc power system, so mine is draggier than yours, heavier too, and does it like to tip stall! as you warn, So I recommend you don't slow down until you have lined up your approach to landing, I'll probably remove the landing gear as I think it creates too much drag,,,,,, Great vid Andrew and the lighter build IS the best for this model 👍

Those little nuts all fell out of the plywood when I was trying to screw the wings on, because I was pushing hard down on the screws to get the thread to catch....big mistake. It took a while, but I managed to get them all back aligned with the holes and got the wings on. Also, those wing support plates should be laser cut individually. I had to cut mine with a hack saw. Maybe they want you to keep them one whole piece for better wing stability? If so then why would you have to cut those foam edges on the wings to make it fit?

Nice view at the end. Is there any benefit for this kind of plane over a motor glider like a bixler other than fpv ?

More internal space for big batteries. Can use bigger props. But Bixler is more of a glider, more efficient.

It's still tip stall prone. I think if they added some wing Chord it would help a lot. Your best defense is to try to keep it light. It'll haul a 4s 5200 but I bet it flies better with less weight! Hi Andrew, how does this plane compare to the SkyHawk V2 you reviewed about a year ago? I like the looks of that plane better (twin motors are always cool), but I wonder if it would fit a F405 FC.
@AndrewNewton4 жыл бұрын
I had to extensively mod the SkyHawk for more battery space and a Skyhunter style twin tail. Then it was great. There is space for F405-wing. Mini Skyhunter is much bigger with lots more internal space, but is prone to bad tip stalls.
@avsaase4 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewNewton I ended up ordering the Sky Hawk. I think the dual motors look very cool and the smaller size is a bit more practical for transportation, since neither really comes apart easily. I really liked that series of mod videos btw. There are some cool ones in the rcgroups thread as well.

Shw 'mae, Andre! I thought I'd send you my build notes for this aircraft, just to show you how much your work is appreciated by us, I'm sure I'm not alone in my referrals to your wealth of knowledge, diolch yn fawr from Wales Den: Sonic Sky Hunter FPV and Camera 'plane. Flaperons for low speed landing, it DOES tip stall at slow speeds, even when not loaded. 4s setup - Re: Andrew Newton video - 3000 mah right up front to achieve C of G. Use good quality M3 capture nuts. Make sure the alignment of the plywood support plates for the wing bolts is correct before glueing, and use white PVA glue, NOT instant glue, so you can bed them in when fitting the wing (Although fit the M3 captured nuts first with hot glue, and check their smooth operation - buy allen key head M3 bolts?). Check wing spar fits inside cleanly. Carefully check the boom fittings, and see if you can strengthen them or their grip, to ensure the plastic doesn't snap. Double check thrust, and direction of, the propeller. Fit rudders. Fit landing gear - just to protect the prop on landing, hand launch as per. Set up Mobius camera positions à la Andrew Newton. Range test the receiver up on the mountain with a light bulb circuit. Adjust control throws, especially ailerons, to Andrew Newton suggestion - also use differential mechanical settings.
