I'd say, at least in the classic titles, speed was a reward for finding the right opportunities to go fast. Speed was a gimmick of the franchise to set it apart, but never the sole factor to his appeal. I mean I don't get what people that were annoyed by the platforming wanted. A linear 2D game where you just go fast lol?

Sakuragi Rokurouta actually no. I was around for Sonichu the comic (circa 2007), the Liquid Chris saga (2009 - 2011) and Spazkidin3D's animated adaption of Sonichu up to episode 18 (2009 - 2010). Chris Chan's antics may have been happening since 2000, but Chris Chan's infamy was at its peak from 2006 to 2011. Even after 2011, he constantly landed on the internet time and time again in 2012/2013 because he became a pre-op transsexual lesbian. Compounded on top of that, he uploads videos of himself playing with doll houses in public restaurants, which is spread all over the internet by the same users who have been spreading his stuff since 2006. XD Even in 2014, he made news all over the Fairfax VA area (and news to literally everyone on the internet that ever heard of him, as well as people who never knew him before) again when Sega turned Sonic's arms blue for the 2014 game "Sonic Boom". I actually do believe a good chunk of Smosh's fanbase knows of Chris Chan. As shown in their comments sections, over a million of Smosh's fans have been watching Smosh since their channel first started rising in popularity (2006, only one year after KZbin's launch), and Chris Chan's infamy had hit its peak around the same time

Randjan He's a disgrace to everyone else who has autism. Autism alone doesn't result in a man like him. Mario kart is actually the better of the spinoffs but it doesnt take over marios maingames like sonics franchise does in terms of popularity. Marios maingames like Galaxy, 64, or the handheld titles are very well received. Mainly what i am trying to compare it to is like this:Pokemon has lots of sales is popular and its sinoffs although there and some good are not the high point. Same with mario but in stead mario has better spinoffs than pokemon but its more of like a medium point. Sonic well.... its an iconic character its quality is decent if not lower with their maingames after the 2d era. Its more like its well known but compared to mario its more like on a has been but not if its actually made games the same or similar level of quality of marios main games or something or just fun when it was with some of their games back in the 2d era.

+John Jones I'm a Sonic fan and I know not all the games are bad. Heck I didn't consider any game to be bad till I played Sonic & The Secret Rings (and I refused to play the other storybook one too cause of that game) and Sonic 06 is ok while many of the others (after Heroes as I considered that the last great Sonic game till Colors came out) were alright. Not great but alright. I had fun with Unleashed (though that stupid Chip almost ruined it for me with how annoying he is) and I feel the games got better when Colors came out until we got Rise of Lyric. (though it seems the 3DS Sonic Boom game is good since it's getting another one while the WiiU is getting none)

Sonic Adventure 2's cutscenes aren't really that bad, they're pretty good for an early 2001's game, minus the sound mixing, which is actually bad (although to be fair, their were still plenty of games after Sonic Adventure 2 with bad sound mixing, such as Rayman 3 which was released two years after).

In sonic you zip by so fast you can't react to the environment or remember it well for your next pass. The better you get at sonic, the slower you play it, so it literally does punish you for going fast. That's the reason I never liked the sonic games, even the old "good" ones.

So I'd assume it all be based on when the game with super sonic came out and if its before or after dbz. Also even if they used the concept, it wouldn't be the first. I mean Kishimoto admits to borrowing ideas from DBZ to help create Naruto, so Naruto's transformation into nine-tails/sage does adapt some similarity from dbz. :/

Sonic Team back then were also big fans of DB, and the series was known to make pop culture references, such as the Death Egg being a parody of the Death Star from Star Wars, and the Sonic series in itself was partially inspired by shounen action anime and manga, so chances are, Super Sonic was a homage to Super Saiyans in Dragon Ball. *The More You Know*
