You could let your little brother (or sister) control Tails and if he died he'd instantly be revived without losing any lives, Sonic 2 was basically the best game for keeping your younger sibling entertained while you focused on the main game.

It's stage energy, it's a rush of adrenalin that gives you a boost in energy. When the camera turns off or the curtain goes down, it can leave the performer exhausted.
