premydaremy Obviously they should put a remaster of this game with all of its DLCs on all major platforms, Unleashed is the best Boost formula game unquestionably. Generations is far from the "refinement" people claim it to be, especially considering that it has worse controls. Here's the thing, Generations controls are basically only for noobs. They removed all the depth the controls for Day Sonic had in Unleashed, tightened the Drift turning arc at the sacrifice of the depth the Drift had in Unleashed, removed the physics and momentum of the controls in Unleashed and drastically decreased Sonic's weight in Generations, and they also nerfed the homing attack so much in Gens that its slow as fuck and has no weight or range to it. Also, switching the homing attack from Square/X to the jump button was a bad idea. I've always considered the Boost and Homing Attack being on the same button to allow good players to do consecutive boosts and homing attacks much faster and more comfortably. This change in Gens controls is not helped by the fact that the Homing Attack was nerfed so much that its a slow, clunky and just awkward move to use. The Gens Homing Attack doesn't flow well with the rest of the controls, ignoring the Gens input lag. Instead of changing it, they should have just gave us the option to remap the controls to what we were comfortable with to do precise platforming. As for your fast mode, it would defeat the purpose if the artistic integrity of the way Unleashed was designed. That's basically giving Critics that don't actually care about Sonic another reason to not like the game. There were improvements to be made on Unleashed, but Gens and Colors only degraded the formula rather than improving upon it.

CouchHobbit - Yeah the only problem with the werehog is no drop shadow and those annoying spikes on the rails you traverse over hazards. Other than that i love it everything else. Only purists that love standard sonic hate it and nitpick the hell out of the werehog.

CouchHobbit - I loved the werehog stages. The puzzles, the fighting, the exploration of different routes, all of it. Not only that, but I liked the scenery you'd get with werehog, specifically how the moonlight shining down on things like the water, and just the land itself.

I'd love to see my favorite Sonic get a remaster. I agree that they should have no changes to the "original mode," but I really want a new feature to refine the one particular part of the gameplay. If Sonic Team were to change the base game in anyway, then they should have a new mechanic for the Werehog. This new mechanic makes it so you can't spam the same combo over and over again, as I see this is a criticism on the Werehog's gameplay. This mechanic is comparable to how the "Stale Moves" mechanic worked in Smash 4; the more you use a move, the weaker it becomes, forcing you to learn other combos and complete the stage faster. Anyways, great video. Love the discussion type of videos.

A smarter option is to have an Options menu that allows you to choose Unleashed or Generations controls, but instead renamed as "Original" or "Fixed". Also, Werehog Battle Royale, make it happen.

The only things I disagree with you on are: a) Multiplayer - Since Sonic is the only character, it can get confusing as to which Sonic you are. Unless they do something like what Sonic The Fighters did and make player 2 character greyed out. But regardless, I feel like Sonic Team shouldn’t be waisting their time making a multiplayer mode if the fans want a polished and finished game. b) Easy Mode - I feel like the things that should be redone in your idea of easy mode are the amount of medals you need to collect to progress (so for example, to get to Jungle Joyride Day you wouldn’t need as many medals as you would normally need) and the difficulty of the Werehog instead of removing him entirely. The Werehog is the main selling point of Unleashed, it’s half the game. They can’t just remove the Werehog it would make no sense to the story. They need to tweak it for this easy mode. Maybe make leveling up easier for both characters and change the amount of enemies you need to defeat to get through and change the platforming sections a bit. May be hard to believe, but these are just my opinions. I’m not saying that your ideas are as incorrect as TWIP’s Sonic Tier List or anything, I’m just sharing my opinions on what would make this remaster a success and your other ideas are actually things I want to see too.

Turvi-Mania I disagree with B. Yes the Werehog was the thing that was intended to be the selling point but it ended up being the thing that killed the game for most people that hate it. I think they should just have a mode where you play the day levels and bosses but only make it harder. Hell, remove the cutscenes if you want, just don't force people to play as the Werehog. The Werehogs gameplay is entirely different from Sonic's. If it was like SA1's Knuckles and Tails were the gameplay was still similar but with a gimmick, you might have a point but; but the Werehog might as well be its own game. IMO Unleashed was like buying 2 games, enjoying one but hating the other, and being forced to play as the game you hate for the majority of the time just so you can continue playing the game you actually like. I don't see any point in SEGA making a remastered version of the game if they're not going to fix the problem that made everyone hate it in the first place. Minus improved visuals and being on Steam of course.

SaiyanZero Another alternative (which I think is probably the best way to go) is to not have an Easy Mode at all. Let’s be honest, Unleashed or any other Sonic game for that matter is not too hard. There are some challenging moments in some games and you’ll probably get a Game Over in one level then never see a Game Over screen for the rest of the game or until later stages in games like Heroes. We don’t need an easy mode to appeal to new people or for critics to give the game a good rating (okay maybe we need that), but it’s mostly about trial and error. They need to get good at the game.

+Turvi-Mania In which world is sonic Unleashed easy I played every main series sonic game and most of the spin offs and Unleashed and Heroes are the only ones I found my self unable to complete. Unleashed antic nes age Try and Error Gameplay is just bad its a relic from a time were games through hardware limitations had to pad them self out as much as possible by basically becoming a game of memory and I will never call this good design especially in a sonic game which with its ring system always insured that you wouldn't just die because you didn't press jump at the right moment. Even the story book games that also used Try and Error Gameplay at least gave unlimited lives to compensate and give the player always enough opportunities to overcome the problem without having after the second failed attempt to replay the entire stage again.

I'd totally be down for Unleashed Remade/Remastered. It would be be nice to see it at a smooth 60fps and maybe 4K as well. Bug fixes, updated graphics, and general improvements would be nice. I do like the Ideas of new modes for replayability and accessibility you brought up. And really there's no major issue too problematic about having an Unleashed port. No harm, no foul really.

If there is a port/remaster I want them to fix/add a few things: 1) The framerate. This is pretty self explanatory. 2) The Medal Collecting. It get's pretty frustrating after a while. 3) The lighting. The lighting is a bit off in certain areas and everything looks kind of muddy- 4) The controls. Make them like Generations. 5) The drift. The animation will stay intact, but it'll be easier to control. 6) Fix the animations, specially for the human stages. 7) The graphics. Again, self explanatory. 8) Make different battle themes for the Werehog for every continent. 9) Knuckles and Shadow being added as unlockable characters or part of the story (like they were intended to be-) 10) Slow the Boost a little. 11) Fix the button mapping. 12) Add an Air Dash (You know, like in Gens-) and map it to the jump. (And uh... I think that's pretty much it-)

Dash I dont agree with 2,3,5,6,7 or 10. the medal collecting actually encourages you to explore which makes it so you cant just speed through the level every time. the graphics were amazing and the game would be for very high end computers if you made them better. The lighting looked amazing and I dont think it could be improved. The drift had no control issues when I played... And having the boost slowed would make the game not as fun.

A big thing that it would probably need is the fixes for small things like music. The Night Battle theme should play more rarely so its not CONSTANTLY coming on and off. I want to hear the level themes in the Werehog stages over that theme on constant repeat. As for the Fast Mode, I actually think it's an interesting idea. Having no cutscenes would probably be for the best since people who would use it (most likely) wouldn't care for the story anyway. Kinda wouldn't mind if there was a middle ground mode as well that allows you to play both stage types and get the full story but makes the levels a little shorter and less annoying. But yeah if we're thinking of a simple remaster some small changes like that would make it a lot better.

In addition to the original mode, which would obviously retain all of the game's original content, they could have 2 "arcade modes" wherein you go through each of the day stages or night stages (including bosses) depending on which one of them you choose. That would be great for quick play-throughs if the player only wants to play/re-play the day stages, or if they prefer, only play/re-play the night stages.

Here’s what I think i’ try to keep is short and concise without digressing too much. First of adding an easy mode: Dkctf is my favourite 2D platformer game, and I played the original WiiU version and people complained that it was too hard even though it was made slightly easier than donkey Kong country returns. And it got higher scores because they added another glorified easy mode however for veterans this mode just comes off as just nothing very special, donkey Kong games are supposed to be challenging and sonic unleashed isn’t a game for the casual player it’s a challenging game. I know it sounds selfish but adding an easy mode to unleashed would make people see it as the definitive gameplay style I also don’t know how they’ll change the mechanics depending on what mode you’re playing (alternating from Gens to unleashed control). 2. Removing the werehog. People always say unleashed would have been better had the werehog been removed that it was the only thing holding the game back from being perfect but I disagree the werehog is so integral to not just the game but the story, it balances out the day time stages by adding platforming challenge, to soak up he atmosphere of the night stages compared to blitzing through the day time stages leaving nothing but a blur in you path. It would affect the experience to have it be removed. 3. I also think the port should include all the dlc packs aswell, also it should include a new dlc stage. Eggmanland day newly designed. (I know there’s a mod for this but It’s also remixed the werehog sections, I would like to see an eggman land stage solely designed for day time sonic). 4. Super sonic seems a bit superfluous Only because modern sonic already feels invincible with the boost so they would have to give super sonic something special to differentiate from his normal form. 5. I really don’t see online multiplayer working with this game unfortunately it would be great but I would be afraid of all the lag the game would have to deal with, and the werehog boxing sounds interesting but I feel people would say it’s just mash to win. Everything else sounds good though I would love unleashed on PS4, it’s been my favourite sonic game since I got in on my PS3. Personally I don’t feel it needs any changes but that’s just cause I adore it for what it is but these suggestions are interesting non the less.

I think it would be best to remove the cutscenes, because Sonic restores some of the Chaos Emeralds as the Werehog after beating a nighttime boss, so it would be very hard to make the story work, even if the cutscenes were kept. (TL:DR) Make the easy mode non canon.

It could definitely run on the switch, but it most likely won't run well, with the graphics quality and everything else it's just to powerful. I'm sure the xbox 1 and the ps4 could handle it, but we've seen how ultimate runs on the switch. I wouldn't want them to ruin the legacy by having to lower the quality of the graphics and have lots of noticeable bugs.

Blake Ellis Exactly! I love the Werehog stages too! :D I think it balances Sonic's speed quite nicely; in the day, you're speeding and boosting right through the stage, but by night you slow down, beat everything in your sight and explore your surroundings! Pretty clever if you ask me! ^^

I think having 2 modes is a too heavy-handed approach and unnecessary. The game would be fine if metal collecting was completely optional and you could play both the day and night stages when reaching a new area (to avoid being forced to play 2 night or day stages in a row)

Now that I've watched you're video, I'll give you my thoughs. I love your idea of an easy mode and how you describe it. But here's my twist on it : - Like you said, no werehog in easy mode, but there would be cutscenes to compensate, with W Sonic traversing the locals of the games, possibly bonding more with Chip - Some of the most important cutscenes would be in regular mode - Eggmanland in easy mode would just be the Day Sonic portions of regular Eggmanland - the cutscenes would remain the same but for the werehog boss fights, it would either be replaced by full-on cutscenes of it (like how the Re:Coded movie did in Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 REmix) or QTE. - I agree with your idea of Super Sonic and Unleashed Werehog tho I'd like the latter to either drain your ring or your life bar (and you could regain rings/life from beating enemies). And in both modes, to me these forms should be unlocked after finishing the game (like in Generations) - Why not add unlockable extra characters like Tails, Amy, Knuckles and Shadow that are clones to Daytime Sonic and you can choose to play in the Day Stages - As for moves like the Homing Attack or the Drift, have like in the Sonic CD remake, in which you could choose between CD's Spindash and Sonic 2's Spindash. So here, have the possibility to map the homing attack on the jump button or on the boost button; and the possiblity to choose either Gen's drift or Unleashed's drift - The medals would unlock nothing in easy mode and only the extra stages in normal mode - I agree on adding the DLC stages, tho I'd also add the Wii/PS2 stages as bonuses too (and maybe also the mobile stages) - It's a port so adding a multiplayer and a fighting game mode would be too much to add to me (unless it's some form of online time trial like in Generations) - In easy mode, have Chip rescue Sonic if he fall into a bottomless pit (at the cost of most of his rings) and getting him back on the nearest platform (just like how Super Mario Odyssey did) - In easy mode, have a clear visual track in the hub worlds that guides you to the action stages (somewhat like how Super Mario Odyssey did) - And yes, no life system in easy mode like you said (and Sonic's stats would be maxed out right at the beginning) - In both mode, make it so that in the 1st phase of the final boss, you only had to control the Gaïa Gollem once. And that in the second phase, you dont have to input the same button so many time during the final QTE (i'd say around 40 instead of 60) - Tweak the hot-dog missions (in both modes), there would be checkpoints and when you'd die, you'd reappear at them with the time you had when you went through that checkpoint. BUT you'd have limited lives and no Chip assistance (even in easy mode) and the amount of live you get depends of the level of the mission (LV1 = 7lives, LV2 = 5lives and LV3 = 3lives) There you go, that's all I wanted to say, what do you think of it ? I agree with everything you've said. I'd just like to add a few things: -Unleashed and Gens controls should be a separate option rather than capped to a certain mode -The watered down "Unwiished" version should be playable through this remaster. Mostly for nostalgic reasons as it was many people's introduction to Unleashed -The "Werehog brawl" mode should have a playable characters similar to Shadow The Hedgehog in a way, where they are all essentially just the same but with changes. Like maybe a robo werehog, a night creature enemy or Eggman in a mech with a similar build. They could even have SA2 style unlockable skins for them that are just as ridiculous. Like instead of Big The Cat in the mech like SA2 it's Professor Pickle or something -There should be a medal hunt mode for multiplayer where you race to collect more medals than your opponent in a time limit. You could annoy your friends by switching the stage to day and night and screwing them over out of medals, and they could do the same -An idea for another multiplayer mode could be a sort of Werehog king of the hill, but it's with Chip's chocolate. The stages could be like big playgrounds that you can climb, swing and fight in to get the chocolate to fill your meter before the other player All in all, great video! I loved it and I love the idea as Sonic Unleashed is my favourite Sonic game. These were just my small thoughts as well.

It took me a while to finally finish watching this video because i had things to do, but anyway, i honestly think Sonic Unleashed should be remastered, but i think your idea for the new mode is a horrible one (this is gonna be a loooooooong comment btw). First off: that mode would cost too much time, effort and budget for mere remaster, not only that, but the remaster would definitely have a small team working on it, so it just wouldn't work. This isn't just a new extra feature like multiplayer, this is a complete overhaul of the game. There's no way a small team that didn't even work on the original game could handle it. Second thing: the whole concept is bad. Don't get me wrong, i'm all up for options. Sometimes i see people complaining about the Fire Emblem casual mode for example and i'm like: "Dude, it's just a convenient option. It doesn't interfere with the story or the gameplay, it just saves you the trouble of resetting the game because your waifu died at the last turn before you killed the boss." But unlike the Fire Emblem casual mode, the mode you described isn't an alternative to the "original mode", it isn't even Sonic Unleashed to begin with. You might as well call it "Unleashed Project but there's bosses". That mode goes completely against the concept of Unleashed, which is speed stages at day, beat 'em up at/platforming at night. Not only that, but the story wouldn't work at all. If they kept the scenes with the Werehog, people would just be left wondering what was the point of the cutscenes. If they left the cutscenes with the Werehog out of the mode, the cutscenes would feel disconected, and a lot of important moments of the story would be left out, so people would just be confused. Also the whole climax of the game would be ruined. No Eggman Land, no Egg Dragoon, just an unsatisfying final boss that would just make people go "What? How did we get here?". While the Generations physics and controls, and optional medals seem pretty appealing, for people that didn't like the original game, it doesn't make up for the fact that the mode would feel like an incomplete mess. Sonic Unleashed was made with the Werehog in mind, so taking it away wouldn't solve people's problems with the game, and it wouldn't bring in newcomers either, since they would probably look online to see which mode was better, and would just play the original mode, or they would be left underwhelmed by the "speed mode". Honestly, if you're going to add an extra mode just make it so you don't need to collect the medals. Then they just add two options in the menu for Generations and Unleashed physics, and button mapping, kinda like the CD remake, where you could choose the spindash type and you could choose the OST. So basically, you could play the original mode with Unleashed physics, but Generations button mapping. Phew, sorry for the long essay. For the people that actually read the whole crazy rambling, know that i love you, and i hope you have a good day/night.

I think an easy mode would be great if it would make the Werehog stages easy and it would remove the life system completely (not the Werehog health bar, that can stay). Easy Werehog would have less or weaker enemies. With this the beat 'em up segments could be reduced.

For Werehog, I'd have a "Day only" toggle in the options. Turning it on would skip the night stages, while still playing the most important Night cutscenes necessary to the plot. Eggmanland's Day/Night switches would be replaced with warps that allow normal Sonic to skip over the Werehog sections. If you want to, you could turn the toggle off and play the Night stages that you skipped without needing to start a new game.

I quite enjoy some of these ideas. Not a big fan of multiplayer mode but I guess it can be a nice touch. I'd also like to share some of my ideas if you don't mind, they're not really that special and all but they could be a little bit cool. 1. Voice change: Lemme explain it a little, since the franchise has new voice actors, I think it would be pretty nice if the player would also have the choice to play with the original voice cast or the new in the game. Kinda like that music option in Sonic CD where you can play with either EU/JP and US soundtrack but with voices. I think that would give this game some kind of replayability. 2. Filters: This one's pretty simple, you can play with vivid colors, black & white, noir, maybe even cel-shading. All that jazz. 3: Photo Mode: ... Yeah, this one pretty much speaks for itself.

I don't think straight-up removing the Werehog is a great idea. I think there could be about 4 modes: Original mode, "Fast mode", Day mode, and Custom. Fast mode removes medals and _shortens_ the Werehog levels instead of deleting them (that would take more work though), Day mode deletes the werehog and has no medals, and in Custom you can choose from a list of settings to create your own unique playthrough. You could customize things like button mapping, Unleashed or Gens physics, if you want to fight bosses or not, medals, etc. That would add a ton of replayability in the base game

What's the point though? I mean a remaster and PC port would be great, but it would be kind of pointless. We already have Generations along with the Unleashed Project, a pc port for Unleashed would be kind of weird since people have already modded the shit out of Gens. Plus if I remember correctly, some devs from Sonic Team have said that all the code from Gens and Unleashed had been erased after Lost World came out. The only way that a port and remaster would be possible is that Sonic team would have to access the code from by getting it from the game on whatever console it is on. I doubt that they'll even do that since they may be a bit lazy.

I love this idea, the only thing I would change is in easy mode is replace the daytime-like stages where you play as sonics friends. They would control the same as sonic only they have special abilities like tails being able to fly, knuckles can punch and glide, and so on.

It’s mind boggling to think about as crappy as EA is, they actually give us an anniversary remaster of Burnout Paradise, but Sega won’t even comment on an anniversary remaster port of Sonic Unleashed to current gen consoles. I’d love to take my favorite boost Sonic game on the go with the Switch. Just minus the medal hunting, and I don’t really mind the WereSonic gameplay as much.

Unleashed would be right at home on switch! You can take in anywhare! It is fun! On the PS3 (the one I have) natively it runs 720i 30 fps The switch docked runs 1080p 60fps The switch handheld runs 720p 60fps I think it goes hand and hand on switch! AND THE LIGHTING ON SWITCH!!!
