It's so refreshing how Kim and Thurston (especially Kim) were the epitome of rock & youth in their late 20's/early to late 30's (and beyond that, sorta). Kim reminds me of Patti Smith in that way, too. Kind of great to look at them after hearing so many dumb kids saying they feel old after turning like, 20. PLEASE DON'T.

I love their honesty and humble self reflection - There's no pretense or any bullsh¡t - they're really grounded in reality, just human and living what must have been undoubtedly a really unique experience for them - for anyone - but being a bunch of young acid heads and producing something so fkg wild like _Daydream Nation_ - which was then, and still remains such an unexplainable and iconic record - I don't think they even knew what they were channeling in that record - it is so strangely nostalgic, and also _futuristic, but also a Zeitgeist. .. Like they said, so many elements and directions... There is something so captivating about it. The 80's were such a weird and uncertain time and that particular record encapsuled the era, the memories of the past, and the uncertainty of the future. I guess that's why it's been enshrined and catalogued in the US Library of Congress. It's cool to see this snapshot in time during that period.

This is why we have Britney Spears. Boring, unkempt, disinterested grunge rockers like Thurston Moore and Sonic Youth. If you're MTV, why continue humoring obtuse indie rockers when there are pretty, perky teen stars desperate for attention by the thousands who will literally do anything you tell them to do (where to sit, where to stand, when to talk) at your command. In retrospect, I don't blame them.

Mitchell Hughes this is one of the dumbest things i've read. record companies always pushed teeny bopper singers. their music is boring, not the sonic youths of the world. i wouldn't call them grunge. when people make art, they generally want to do it their way. mtv promotes garbage, but also had shows for alternative music.
