1968 I'm sitting in the front yard of a friends house, in Phoenix Arizona, with him and another buddy when from across the street out the front door walks Sonny and Cher. They walk up to a Mercedes parked right in front of us. We got up and talked to them while they waited for this guy. They were just awesome. They were checking out the house for a scene in movie they making called Chastity. She was 5 years older then me was so hot and Sonny was so nice. Will always remember it. Anyway great memory!

How absolutely sad... those 2 were so good together & had it all! Looks like (somehow) they could have "worked-it-out" & not have divorced. They were (by far) my favorite entertainers back in the 70's! So very tragic how Sonny's life ended. Cher has definitely declined in her personal life over past decades.... sad.

I have always loved Sonny and Cher … and I’m old enough to have loved them through their entire careers. In fact, I got to see them perform live twice (thank you mom and dad) and still have my Sonny and Cher scrapbooks from the 70s. Yes, scrapbooks plural. But looking back, it really was a very odd and slightly unlikely act. They are so different and yet they had such amazing chemistry. I don’t know. I’m just reminiscing and thinking out loud. ❤❤❤

What has always interested me is it doesn't matter when it was or is with Cher, they talked about 'the good ole days'. They were talking about them here in 1977 and on Letterman in 1987. I got the feeling there might have been a rift between them in the 90's from her interviews, but it was so obvious at his funeral she still loved him. She still tweets about him.

Cher tweets about Sonny?
@tpajay5 жыл бұрын
@@kimberlykline6506 I don't read tweets so I can't answer that but Cher did an interview in November 2018 promoting her Broadway play "The Cher Show". The interviewer asked her about the men she's been with over the decades & she said the one she misses & loves the most is Sonny & "if he were to walk through that door right now, we would be Sonny & Cher in about 2 seconds".

I'm as cynical as they come but I found this story so touching and 90% believable (Sonny didn't have that haircut when he worked for Phil Spector in 1963)- really wonderful. Sonny and Cher could never happen today and isn't that a little sad. The 1960's was a decade that gave birth to a pop renaissance the likes of which we may not see again for a very long time.

I have to say, I'm a 25 year old listening to this in 2014 and I just think Cher (and Sonny) is the best. I can't wait to see her next month on tour. I also gotta say as much as I love the original recording of this song, there's a certain quality listening to Cher sing her lyrics more than a decade after it came out. Her voice really deepened and matured in the time and it just makes the song sound even better. I don't know if that makes any sense, but this just might be my favorite "version" of this song.

The musical contribution Sonny and "Sonny and Cher" provided,with their TV Entertainment Variety D Shows,and string of Hit songs,Fashion and style influenced an entire generation now unquestionably a part of history. Cher;s six decades of number one singles worldwide. Another milestone. Thrilling to view Cher at 25,the making of a great entertainer and performer for our culture! On this day in 1965 {February 17th} Sonny and Cher performed "Baby Don't Go" on the ABC-TV program 'Shindig!'... Six months later on August 21st it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #8 and spent 12 weeks on the Top 100... Originally released in 1964 but failed to make the national charts; after the success of "I've Got You, Babe" it was re-released and entered the Top 100 in August 1965... And on October 11th, 1965 it peaked at #1 {for 2 weeks} in Canada...

There was no doubt that the product they were selling was not really the music, lyrics or their voices, but the chemistry It was their playfulness and a refusal to take themselves too seriously. Sonny knew the business, knew what worked, and he knew her talent. She mostly believed and trusted in him and from that came the remarkable act and all those songs.
