Another amazing video Ralf! Your playing is insanely musical and your recordings are mindblowing! On older videos I saw acoustic panels on the wall on the right and left side and now I see diffusers on the left and right. Does that make a big difference in sound?

Thank you so much Paul! Yes you are right, I started out with more absorption on the side walls, but decided to go with more diffusion there instead to get some more "air" of the room on the overhead mics, which works well with QRDs. Kind regards!

I was wondering Ralf, what is your take on expensive to very expensive drum pedals (like the tama dynasync, DW9000)? Or in other words, what kind of pedals have you fallen in love with?

Honestly speaking, I'm an absolute pragmatist when it comes to hardware & pedals :) I've been using old & simple Yamaha pedals that I got from ebay for 20 bucks for years. Then I've also been using the super affordable drum-tec pedals next to my more expensive ones, and am right now about to try & compare several Sonor models that they have sent me. I think in the end it's more about knowing how to set up your pedal appropriately for your individual foot technique & playing style, then you might get great results from basically any pedal probably 😄 and shhhh, don't let those expensive manufacturers read this.... Kind regards!

What’s your opinion on this kick for studios recording’s, rock/hard rock etc? Think it would make a great recording kick?

Hey James, it absolutely would! I actually just got my new vintage series kit from Sonor, including both a 20“ and 22“ kick, so there‘s all the flexibility for different genres I might think of. Then you can also experiment with tuning, muffling, head type and also mic positioning to get the most versatile sounds out of it. Kind regards!

The drums sound great for sure. You use what I'd consider a somewhat high tuning for 13" and 16" toms, where I'd normally tune a 12" and 14". Was that a conscious decision, or did they just sound good to you tuned that way?

Hey Brent, I've been using AT AE2300 as snare top mic (AE3000 bottom) and AT 4051B as overhead mics for quite a while now actually. they're great 👌
