Sons of the Forest - COMPLETE Combat Guide | Become the Monster | Ultraviolence Edition™

I didn't find any combat guides for Sons of the Forest, so I decided to make one myself, and ever since consciously implementing these tips and tricks, I've witnessed significant improvements in my combat performance. I expect no different from you.

This video took over a month to produce, starting before Update 2 and coming to a close in the middle of Update 3. I even went through a nasty flu during the making of this video, as you can tell by some of the voice changes that occur every so often.
If anything changes in a future patch, I will make a new video to compliment this one. Also, the game contains a lot of... "unsafe" content which might be deemed too spicy for youtube. If that happens, I will need to censor the problematic parts and re-upload.

I just realized the one missing thing that would make the combat in this game perfect: Fake attacks. Being able to feint and/or appel to distract the enemy would be perfect for getting them to dodge or block for a bit just long enough to allow you to immediately rush them with a heavy overhead strike!

I kind of do that by jumping at them and slashing but I jump behind the enemy and quickly turn around and slash again behind them. I guess it’s like a fake attack.

One of my favorite bread and butter combos in this game is spear to the kneecap, then either spear/arrow to the head or axe to a limb/head during their stun animation from having their kneecap destroyed by a wooden spear. Worst comes to worst you miss the spear and bait them away before recollecting it and trying again. With mutants, aiming for their knees (and sometimes arms) is like aiming for the head on others. Stunning them and giving tons of opening to kill or deal tons of damage.

the slingshot is amazing if you manage to learn how to aim it (for some reason it's a little bit to the left and right of the middle of the screen), it can knock over any cannibal pretty easily. the pebbles are plentiful and can also be used to one shot rabbits and squirrels when hunting them.

You know, as soon as you get the crosbow and the bow, which you can collect the arros/bolts again, definitelly should use them instead. A horde of babarians is always risky to kill with CQB since they are typically videogame like, superhuman to you... Even more since the patch with drivable caddies came in, I parked a caddy in my base, and if enemies are aproaching I just run them over with the caddy xD

A small note on defence part three: jumping. I can’t even count all the times I’ve been able to jump over an enemy’s attack. It’s beyond useful, especially if something like the finger mutant is charging after you.

Don't forget to keybind the sled to something so if you ever get stuck on a cliff you can just jump off and sled for no damage.

imagine being a cannibal and seeing some journalist on your island thinking "huh, easy prey" but when you try and club him, he jumps over your attack and puts a spear in your cannibal buddy's brain. That is Sons of the Forest.

Haha great vid been playing on hard survival and ive been doing most of this subconsciously oddly enough. For base defense traps slap, they usually attack from the same points the part with the fingers was especially helpful.

A minute in and I'm already laughing my ass off at the editing, island boy decapitation, lego yoda scream, chicken with an axe. Glorious. Also, idk if they were nerfed, but reinforced spike traps were absolutely goated for base defense and bone farming in early access. I once built a base with spikes sticking out from the walls, it took a LOT of stones to reinforce the spikes, a lot of experimentation to get the spikes positioned properly, and a lot of a different type of stones to build around them if ya get what I'm saying, but boy was it worth it. I was rolling in so many bones you'd think I'd just been to a Rush concert in the Paris Catacombs. Infinite bone armor, rope and tape sold separately. If only you could extract the tape from the local tapeworm population, of which is alive and well inside of a cannibal near you, you would have plenty of tape. Unfortunately, useless parasites will remain useless and you will have to find your own tape. I recommend strategically transferring equipment from your nearest cannibal camp to an alternate location, ideally into your inventory or to a shelf at your own camp, to find all of the glorious adhesive backed paper strips and fiber-based tensile material you will ever need. Using the red mask, like in the video, makes S.T.E.A.L.-ing from your local man-eating men even more fun and profitable.

Little tip:When u open inventory on floor game is paused but regen stamina and hp isnt...so u can use pills wait a litle get hp and continue fight.....enemies wont attack u while in inventory

I know this guide is fairly old at this point but . . . "Shotgun ammo is rare." I have done no intentional save scumming at all to get more ammo and on my multiplayer world I have 45 Slug ammo and 2 9mm ammo, I have not used any of either.

I found that when fighting the ‘fingers’ mutant, armed with the katana as it rushes you, crouch and take its legs out. Most times it’s swigs go over your head.

one thing I didnt see with the katana u can do 2 light attacks into a heavy then while holding the heavy start look down after the first heavy attack leads to a cool finishing move that with quickly dispatch any regular cannibals

Good video but it did not mention my favorite weapon. The Golf Cart. I suggest clipping them with the right or left side of the cart not head on. If they have armor be prepared to backup when you come to a full stop. Otherwise you'll normally take off one of their legs. I've killed ALL of the above ground creatures with the cart. When they send 10 at me at once this is the best way to level the playing field. Be advised you can take damage as you drive and even be knocked out of the seat. Be extra careful with the scorpion style creepy attacker. :^)

Spears and torches are my go-to combo. Sure I can’t guard at all but the spear lets me out-range and have a (costly) range attack, and the torch lets me stun-lock the cannibals and extract free bones from their corpses.

If you are using the Modern or Fireman axe then you can actually stagger lock the smaller mutants with constant heavy attacks.

here are just some tactics. always face your enemy and never let them get behind you. always let your enemy make the first move then move in and attack once there done attacking. use ranged weapons as much as you can but not to much because range weapons can't block. target specific parts of an enemy to get through there armor.

Go to inventory, hover mouse on a weapon, press a key 1-9. That's how it's done, if I remember correctly... been a while since I played this game.
