Turns out it DOES overheat. Many people on the facebook group are complaining saying that a couple 30 minute sessions in a row will kill it in 4k.
@JMadlock108
@JMadlock108 8 жыл бұрын
+joeyisfunny Yea I hear some saying it does and some saying it doesn't, but in the cases that it does it seems to be when shot in sunlight on a hot day and the cool down time is only a minute for another 30 minutes to a hour. I'm pretty sure in an firmware update all cases will be eliminated like with a7rii.

Theres a notice in the manual about it, so it shouldnt come as a huge surprise...

+joeyisfunny That's still not OK, People bought it based on the statement on various KZbin channels. that it does not overheat. Before even getting access to the manuals.

Is the overheating only when shooting 4k? What about 1080?
@DiegoSartori

Great video, thanks. Two comments, as I recall you cannot cap ISO and set a low point for shutter on the A6000, this, if I am not mistaken you can on the A6300. Secondly, the A6300 does come with Eye focus. Look forward to more videos on this camera.

+Diego Sartori yes you can set the min/max shutter speeds for auto iso. should have been on the a6k from the beginning!

I just tested the A6300 for overheating while filming in 4K with the old firmware and then with the new firmware. Here is the setup: 4K, 24p, LCD closed, tested outside with temp 25 Celsius, sunny, no wind, sun facing the back of the camera. With the old firmware (1.0) the camera shut down from overheating after 7 minutes. I then brought the camera inside to let it cool down for 30 minutes, updated the firmware to 1.10 and then did the test again with the exact same conditions. The temperature warning symbol didn't come on until 23 minutes, at which point the camera was very hot to the touch (so hot that you could only hold it for a few seconds before it became uncomfortable). The camera then shut off after 25 minutes in total. This is a significant improvement!

yes it DOES OVERHEAT....... My a6300 overheats.. and others are reporting overheating as well.. I got overheating .. 4K 30P indoors 68F at 28 minutes.. Still shooting (no video) after about 35 minutes of casual shooting and lcd display. it was repeatable.. I was using stock battery, 18-105 lens..

How long do you think the battery would last shooting just 4K video? Can you give any sort of estimate?
@nanderman1
@nanderman1 8 жыл бұрын
mine overheated at 4K 100Mbps 30fps. It shuts down in the middle of a sports play. At 4K 24fps 30Mbps it is doing about 24% of the data storage/computation and may run longer. Mine shut down indoors, not in sunlight. The manual says 20 minutes at 4K and Sony customer support said that it is not intended for long use in 4K. It feels warm when you hold it shooting 4K.

I see in other reviews that it in fact does shoot in uncompressed raw.

Maybe not a fair comparison but size aside how would you compare this to the RX10 II for video? Is the autofocus for video night and day different?
@KennyRonkainen
@KennyRonkainen 8 жыл бұрын
I have both, and the A6300 beats the RX10 in every way. The amount of detail in video and stills is completely on a different level. Almost as much as the difference between 1080p and 4K (even though they are both 4). I do miss the ND filter and the headphone jack, and I overheat if I don't prepare to avoid it. In my opinion it's a very fair comparison since with the price of rx10 you can get a6300 and 1 or 2 lenses.

+Prashant Vikal I have made a small 25mm x 25mm battery powered fan. It fits between the screen and body. I have not been able to overheat with the fan (longest test 3 hours of 4K).
@AryaInk
@AryaInk 8 жыл бұрын
Kenny Ronkainen I see. With all these hacks, battery grip for longer battery time, cage to dissipate heat, fan for heat, a mirror hack for vlogging, a6300 isn't a small traveler's camera anymore.
@KennyRonkainen
@KennyRonkainen 8 жыл бұрын
+Prashant Vikal I don't really see why a traveler would need 30-120 min continuous video that those hacks would allow. The hacks are to make it operate similar to a FS5. Still, even with a battery grip, it is still lighter than a GH4 and gives vastly better detail, but has worse battery and no flipping screen. So one has to choose between price, size, performance and reliability as always.

What can you tell about low light results? Is a6300 better comparing to the a6000 according to the noise with high ISO's? Tahnks.
@sjsphotog
@sjsphotog 8 жыл бұрын
+Łukasz Boruta slightly better than a6k due to copper wiring used in circuit to increase data transfer speeds. but not worth the upgrade just for slightly better iso/noise if thats the onlt thing you need. its not a major improvement in iso

At 8:20, on the "Custom Key (Shoot.)" setting, can't you customize a button on the new a6300 to the "Eye AF" setting in order to have the camera now be able to have the focus on the eye feature operate while the camera's in the Continuous Auto Focus mode, which would be an improvement over the a6000 which only operated the Eye AF function in the single shot mode?
@scb2scb2
@scb2scb2 8 жыл бұрын
+bohnstube Indeed what i now did on the a6300 put it on the AF/MF - AEL flipper. This combined with backbutton focus is perfect flip the switch and you are in eye AF mode flip it down and you are in cont. mode

Prashant Vikal I actually got an email reply from B&H, today regarding the A6300's overheating issue. I'm not sure I believe this, but it sure would be great if it were true: "The overheating issue with the A6300 only occurred in the first few models they released. This often happens with new cameras; they release a new camera that has not been fully tested, people buy the camera on the first batch, the first users user the cameras in different ways than the manufacturer tested and then they (the camera maker) fix the problems with a firmware update or a recall."

***** This is the best news I heard today. You made my day. Now I just pray it turns out to be the case. I just can't get a6300 out of my mind, and I was just about to make a payment for 80D.
@AlienFrequency
@AlienFrequency 8 жыл бұрын
Prashant Vikal I hope it's true, but I'm not going to expect no overheating at all. I've been heavily researching pretty much every current DSLR, camcorder and mirrorless on the market for about 2 months, since my Sony Z1U finally crapped out. (Yeah, Mini DV, but it was a very expensive, pro camera 10 years ago!). I can't wait to finally go tapeless. Anyway, I've talked to experts, vloggers and fellow film makers and I've finally narrowed it down. I think I'm making an informed decision and know what I'm getting for my money with the A6300. My only decision now is whether to get the black or silver body!
@AryaInk
@AryaInk 8 жыл бұрын
***** I will wait a bit more and see how it turns out. Hopefully a6300 is what I will ultimately have. I didn't know it comes in silver too. If that's the case silver is better for not absorbing heat from outside.

+TheDigitalDigest - It doesn't overheat? I am reading many, many reports everywhere that it does overheat. Tony Northrop said it overheated while in Miami and he wasn't even shooting stills. What tests did you do to confirm? How long did you shoot it?
@mlj_the_shield
@mlj_the_shield 8 жыл бұрын
After owning one for a while - yeah, it overheats on long takes. I just don't use it for anything required 5+ minutes of straight video work. I use my 1dc and c100 mark 2 for that. This is a small, light, portable fun to use camera - not a pro video or stills shooter. Great results though.
