Ironically enough I got the O.G A7 last week, really enjoying it so far and I've been getting my head around all the settings and functions after upgrading from the canon 600d, so I'm watching all the A7 videos I can find. One other tip for anyone watching.. all of the sony lenses can be updated by firmware as well! Stumbled across that by accident but I've upgraded my kit lens firmware to version 3.0 (from 1.0).

Hello Josh, I'm interested in the low-light performance of this camera, given my need for an affordable solution for photographing and videoing in dark underwater caves. I fear that a GoPro's small sensor won't suffice due to the extreme darkness of these environments. An added bonus for this camera is the relatively inexpensive underwater housing available in the used market, which is likely due to its age. Do you think this camera would be an effective option for such dark underwater cave exploration?

I just bought this last Saturday - not because of your vid. I looked up videos on it because.. I'm quite disappointed in it. And I wanted to see if others were, too. But quite a lot of people are really positive about it. I wanted to be able to photograph flowers (I don't mean to zoom in like a thousand times, I know I'll need a macro lens for that), landscapes and make portets. But it doesn't focus up close, often it doesn't even focus on the object at all (say a cotton ball in front of our green living room wall, all will be blurry). I did want to photograph flowers up close bearing in mind the macro-lens-stuff, but my phone gives a better result. My phone's quality regarding landscapes is nearly the same. As well as with portrets. Only with the camera I can see the spots on my face in greater detail, lol Am I doing something wrong? I'm honestly thinking about returning it tomorrow.

Hey Lydia! I'm sorry to hear that you are having a bad experience with the camera! :( In my opinion, (Now granted, I'm really not a camera expert) it sounds like your having an issue with the lenses here. I assume you're using the kit lens which really isn't equipped for really up-close shots. For that, you will want to look into getting a macro lens. With regards to the shots of the cotton ball in the living room, what ISO, F/stop and shutter speed are you shooting at? This can all factor into a blurry image - there also needs to be sufficient light. The kit lens is F/4, if I remember rightly which does need some good lighting to look good. For indoor stuff without a lighting setup, try a lens at f/1.8. :) Also ensure your sensor is clean and the lens too is clean! Your phone camera is likely to be pretty sharp and is also backed up by good processing so will often give a very clean image. With a mirror-less camera, there will be more of a learning curve to obtain crisp and sharp images but it is absolutely achievable and will bring better results in the long run. I would give it a bit more time to learn the camera but if you're wanting more of a point and shoot style of camera, then your phone is more suitable for the job! A point-and-shoot camera, the Sony a7 is not! I hope that helps a little bit!
@PrinsesFox33 жыл бұрын
@@joshjamesmoule thanks! There's a lot of functions and settings of course. But the overall quality is still a bit disappointing. I am a very critical person, with"high end taste". Which is okay, but made me decide to take this one back and save up more money to, eventually, buy a better one with a macro lense. (I know technique is very important! But I don't want to have spend €1.000 (Dutchie here) for a camera I'm not going to use because I don't like using it and my phone is better)

@_littleands_3 жыл бұрын
Hello Lydia! It seems you have an issue with the lens. If you want to make high quality photography, you should invest more into prime lenses then into a camera body. A Sony Alpha 7 with a GM 85mm f1.4 lens will bring better results than a Sony Alpha 7RIV with a kit lens when shooting portrait. A kit lens doesn't bring the features for shooting macro. You either get a macro prime lens or use an extra adapter.

Autofocus of the A7 I is really not good, I wouldn't recommend anything below A7 III for users that need a proper AF. For that money better buy an A6100, then you have a modern top notch AF. If you need IBIS (in-body image stabilization), then take an A6600 or, if the latter is too expensive, an A6500. A used A6500 with a Sigma 18-50 f2.8 is below 1000€ and is the perfect package for someone who wants an allrounde solution for traveling/ street/ people/ children/ animal photography in a small form factor but with semi-professional results.

The 10-15 second startup time - So you need leave the camera always on, thus reducing the maxium amount of shots to like 20 shots before the battery dies? All the other horrible issues with this crappy camera that is described in detail all over the internet? I would probably go for the A7 Mark III or later.

Yeah, I agree, the A73 and later are definitely better, but you would be spending an extra £1000-2000. If you have the budget for a camera at that price level, I don't think you'd be considering a MK1 a7. 😊

What i found is that after getting more top lenses, like a 50mm f1.4, i was able to get really good photos with that body. Now i’m considering of going full frame, never felt that i needed to before, i’ll just buy the cheapest OG a7 that i can find and invest more money into lenses
@KevinRedder Жыл бұрын
För clubs where the lighting conditions are bad it better to use DSLR because the flash/speed light has a IR blaster the fires red lines that the autofocus system in the DSLR can pick up. Mirrorless cameras uses a different autofocus system which doesn't pic up IR light. However there is a godox flash for Sony Mirrorless that fires a red grid light that the Sony camera can pick up but this light is more noticeable and could be annoying for people at the clubs?
