Hope you’re feeling better dude 🤧. So excited for these videos 💥 Another way around Dolby Vision is streaming via their Xbox or Playstation without much quality loss. The Xbox’s basic tv calibration menu is fantastic for setting contrast. If you’re ever in Kansas City, I’d pay ya for calibration 🌆 So happy to see your 40-45 brightness 🔅 recommendation - 40 has been the sweet spot for me. (Love The Grand Tour) Reality Creation - Auto is usually slightly softer than I prefer. It seems to play off of what you have manual set at before switching over. 33-37 is great for SDR. 40-49 for HDR & HD in my experience. Thanks for all you do Classy 🙏🏽
@reviewforthetube6485
@reviewforthetube6485 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah auto will vary between content. So some content it won't even add anything on while others it will add more. Its why some content you may notice isn't doing much with auto lol. So manual is best if you like that look reality creation gives the image with the sharpness and detail especially if set higher like some are doing.

True. Sounds like the problem is coming from streaming services and related streaming devices. It doesn't surprise me they'd screw up DV implementation Comparing a disc in both HDR10 and DV with a UB820 it's pretty clear DV is superior.

Sony A80J panels have a vertical ripple approximately every 8” on the 55” & 65”. I cannot understand why no one is mentioning this. I went to buy this A80J Sony today and the salesman took pictures and sent them to the Sony Rep which said he couldn’t see the ripple. I went to two other retailers and the sales people were shocked to see the same problem with the panel. We compared A80J to the LG G1 and Sony A90J and both of these panels were perfectly flat with no rippling. We were all in complete disbelief. The last retailer discounted the A90J 65” an additional 800 on top of the already discounted 700 price for customer satisfaction policy. The A80J has an amazing picture but would be embarrassed if anyone would point out my TV was warped. I’m coming from a Pioneer 50” Plasma purchased 15 years ago. Absolutely loved this TV but just developed a thin black line across middle of panel. The Pioneer was expensive but only cost .50 cents per day. Fingers crossed Sony’s quality is as good.

Just got an a80j 77 but this seems to apply to external input driven content. Are there suggested settings for just the built-in apps? I'm mainly watching the built-in Netflix/Amazon Prime/Disney+/Crave/HBO Max/Apple TV apps. Dolby Vision Bright/Dark picture modes don't even seem available for me for some reason. On another note, I'm surprised that in 2021 streaming services and television manufacturers still haven't figured out how to properly use the metadata to establish a proper handshake to pull the best picture profile and settings and get the best (and by best, I mean most accurate) PQ out of a TV.
@sjsphotog
@sjsphotog 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I had the same issue. Didnt see DV Dark or Bright modes when trying to calibrate using Netflix Sweettooth like he did. I think yoiu have to have the extra paid UHD version of Netflix for that to work. It needs to "see" the DV source coming in for those pix modes to "light up"/become available but I dont have any source for DV content right now so... Also need to ensure you have the source HDMI set to Enhanced Dolby Vison instead of just Enhanced like he showed in the beginning

I disagree about disabling dolby vision. Dolby black is hands down one of the best pictures I’ve ever seen on a tv for movies. At least if like a vast majority of people you only use the built in apps and don’t need the other hdmi ports. Personally if turning Dolby vision off, Expert 1 out of the box is almost spot on if using cinema or custom settings.

Thanks for the vid. I applied these settings to my A80K and they work pretty well. One question: do you still recommend turning Dolby Vision off on the 2022 Sony K series models? On my Sheild I have only watch a bit of Apple TV+ and Prime content in DV so far (eg. Rings of Power) but with a quick bit of tweaking the DV Dark and DV Bright presets seem to work well on this TV in low light rooms.

One interesting setting to note is the Netflix Calibrated Mode in the TV’s display settings. Have an A80K 77" that has been having issues with the sound, Linked to the Sony HTA 5000. Out of NOWHERE my remote volume control does not work and have to use the sony soundbar remote. when using volume it is supposed to show up on TV, seeing Auto System, on the left bottom side of the screen. When not linked up with sound ar one has to use the tv remote to turn off the TV and the Sony soundbar remote to turn off the soundbar. This is my 3rd month in having these issues, so far once a month Best Buy Geek Squad out to link it back up. This month March 10th, 2023 Geek came out and linked up the remote using Blue tooth, so still, the TV remote does not work with volume when I shut off the TV only the TV and sony go off, and not the Comcast box. Is anyone else having soundbar issues with this Sony A80K and HT-A5000 soundbar?

Waited 2 weeks for my 75" X95J to arrive and when it did the truck driver opened up the back of the panel truck and what I saw was my tv laying face down teetering over a long 16" carton. You could see right away the tv box had a twist like a piece of licorice. I asked why wasn't it secured instead of sliding and banging around and he said he just delivers. After that remark I didn't see any use to saying anything else. So back it went.

Thank you so much for this! I do not have a calibrated set but I followed your Dolby Vision settings advice and I love it. However, I noticed that the "basic" white point adjustment settings carry through to HDR10 content as well. Am I doing something wrong? Both HDR10 and Dolby Vision UHDs play in the same Panasonic player. Anywhere I can read about why DV is not better than HDR and what you mean by converted DV besides Native DV? From videos of HDTVTest I was under impression DV is better due to the Dynamic Metadata and buying the TV based on whether it can do DV / Atmos etc., But just to turn it off later feels like wasting money on something that we wont be using
@ClassyTechCalibrations

Native Dolby Vision content would have been created with dynamic metadata. The problem is streaming apps took all their HDR10 static metadata content and "flipped a switch" to convert it to DV. Some of the content is native DV and will look like it should. Other content will be inconsistent.

@@camzane52 sorry my reply was worded incorrectly, and I also wasn't quite sure which setting you were referring to. I meant to say that when I recommend turning off Dolby Vision it's using port 3 or 4 on enhanced. I have not used any HDR capable devices on port 1 or 2, but I do know enhanced on those ports will allow HDR10 or DV, whichever the content is. However I've seen it said that standard makes the ports run in HDMI 1.4 compatibility mode for older devices like old cable boxes or standard DVD players. Essentially like the "deep color" setting that Samsung has.
@camzane52
@camzane52 2 жыл бұрын
@@ClassyTechCalibrations True, it will do that to old cable boxes and such which is why new cable boxes need to have that port set to 4K mode if the cable box is 4K cable. I just mainly wanted to point out that standard will allow HDR and DV.

Are the tvs still targeting a slightly cooler white point than D65 by default with Expert? You mention with DV, the tv shifts down to D65 in earlier videos, is this only when using DV Dark, and one of the Expert temp settings? so by switching to Warm, and making the RGB adjustments, you emulate the default Expert temp, but now the tv won't do the temperature shift down for DV because the temp setting isn't Expert? I notice in this video and in the comments, you mention using the Warm hack even for 'good' DV content, so are you saying Sony's temp step down is 'wrong'? Or are you just trying to keep the viewing experience more consistent between modes at the expense of some accuracy in well done DV content?
