Hey everyone! Thanks for watching. Based on some comments I’m seeing, I wanted to be clear on my stance, just in case someone doesn’t make it past the thumbnail: The A95K is the best-looking TV out this year, bar none. It’s PQ is outstanding and as I said in the video, I’d take it home with me in a hot second. The reason I think the S95B is a better choice for most people buying in the premium tier is because it offers higher performance per dollar - that’s it. In a time when folks have to be more guarded with their money, I think a lot of folks - most folks - are looking to make the smartest investments they can. I am so thankful for my enthusiast audience - I love my Nit Nerd Army and credit them with a big chunk of my success. With that said; there are many hundreds of thousands of viewers out there who are struggling with a buying decision - I hear from many of them every single day - and I’m here to help them too. That’s the challenge for me on this channel - finding that balance. Sometimes that challenge is tougher than others and this is one of those times. Thanks for being here. Thanks for your comments. I can’t wait to chat with you all more in the coming days, months, years.

I would like it if you included power consumption in your reviews. Out of these 2 the Samsung uses less power, with a peak of 64 watts difference.

@@jody024 I’d be very interested to learn more about how that data was obtained - the measurement methodology. For instance, we’re test patterns or real content used? Was consumption at its peak measured, or was it a arranged out over time, and if so, what was the sampling methodology?

I got the S95B 65" last weekend but unfortunately the TotalTech guys who were wall mounting it apparently handled it incorrectly - they held onto the TV from the coners and not how the Samsung quick setup guide describes it. As a result, the panel bent a little and is now slightly convex simply because the panel is SO thin! I can see 3 visible vertical bends when viewed from the side. Thankfully I was able to schedule an exchange with Best Buy and will be receiving a replacement soon. Fingers crossed 🤞

Same issue, but I set mine up myself. I was extremely careful not to touch where told not to, so maybe it was bent before I brought it home. Love the TV, but I cannot fathom why it needs to be so thin at the edges. Gives me anxiety.

How do you like it? I just recently bought the C2 because it was a tad cheaper than the Samsung but I did really want the QD OLED. I was super worried about it too because it's in its infancy stage. @@wombat5252 There are definitely some niggles but overall it's ok. I really dislike the interface with Samsung pushing it's platform, Samsung make it really difficult to default to any input other than their own streaming platform. There are many steps to get to off-air programmes for instance, that should be the default. You cannot completely remove their stuff from the home page for instance. Picture -wise when set up properly it is gorgeous. I'm just getting to grips with the settings for abl etc, and find it very annoying having to reset the picture controls when switching from off-air to my linux PC mythtv recordings for instance. I did look at the G2 myself (as I wall-mount my tv) but the positioning of the connections on the rear right of the G2 made my installation very difficult so went for the Samsung. Why oh why don't all mfrs put their sockets in a standard configuration? As a (now retired) home theatre installer/repairer it was the bane of my life, having to reconfigure all the connections for different tv's. As far as QD OLED's being new tech-I've always taken a punt and not let possible future problems deterring me from buying new toys! With a username like yours you must be an Aussie-I lived in Perth for 33 years.

Thanks everyone for being positive and for keeping in mind that we’re all human beings with our own perspectives! @Michael Heath coming from an first gen LG oled owner(65inch c6p), who just got the s95b, the difference in QD-OLED vs WOLED is significant, it is a quantum leap in picture quality. Movies I have watched multiple times, seems like new. Due to the presentation feeling like a whole new dimension has opened up. Get an Apple TV 4K but Samsung probably updates it. The newer firmwares lags WAY LESS so I hope you are not hugging the stock firmware with tons of bugs like some seems to do. They fixed 100s of bugs in the newer ones and image quality looks the same when you tweak the presets. The newer presets are just MORE ACCURATE but you can make them look pretty much like the stock ones if you change them. Only a fool stays on the old firmware.
@rhyno3780

@@Dr.WhetFarts I should use a streaming device. I just like the idea of not switching inputs to stream shows, which is also mildly annoying with this TV. The only upgrade for the remote I would want would be a dedicated input button. I have not updated the TV since I got it so I will check for that, but I also did not turn off updates or anything. I do know they changed brightness after launch, but that did not bother me. The TV I had before was a 2012 edgelit LCD panel so this one is still blindingly bright compared to that.

I went to the shop and did a quick test on both of these sets: Hooked up my laptop and left it on a static desktop image. After 12 minutes, the picture on the Samsung became extreeamly dark due to burn in protection. With the Sony, even after 45 minutes, there was no change in brightness (I've could have waited more but the guy at the shot had to demonstrate the Sony to another consumer). I went with the Sony, also because of the Dolby Vision support for Netflix, which does not offer HDR10+.

@Clesarie the only way that this would make sense, if the A95k was guaranteed to last longer than s95b. But I doubt that it has a better warranty, even tho it cost twice as much. If you watch “See” on Apple TV, you will see a problem. That series goes from bright to super dark one scene after another. I had the S95B and I couldn’t see anything in the dark scene until the TV would suddenly raise the brightness after it cooled down. I would then have to rewind the scene every time to see what just happened. I returned the S95B and got the A95K. The A95K never dims enough to notice and I never had this issue once I upgraded. I’m glad I got rid of the S95B. Also, the S95B was super flimsy. I was terrified I was going to bend it the way I have read others doing. I was worried about inevitably moving. The A95K feels very sturdy, and the build quality all around is clearly better. I just watched the dark scene in “House of Dragons” that everyone was complaining about, and I could see everything just fine on the A95K. It’s the perfect TV.

All flat panels last 3 to 5 years and or 5 to 7 years before they break down. Stop it. Usually the cheaper the TV cost the sooner it will break down. Sony's break down all the time. The only difference is I usually have to wait to get the parts I need to repair the Sony while Samsung and Lg parts are widely available for repairs. If you're not buying a Pro panel, you shouldn't be talking about the durability of these cheap consumer TV'S.

I just wanted to bring to your attention an additional pro and con for the Sony A95K: pro is that you can get Ambient Mode on Google TV just as you would on the Samsung OS. Con is that Sony seems to limit the bandwidth on its Ethernet port but not on Wifi out of the box, so those looking to use Bravia Core, you’ll have to use Wifi instead of hardwiring otherwise it will keep buffering if use the Ethernet port.

Many people, myself included, want to use a TV which requires a huge investment like this for ALL forms of entertainment, so as well as watching TV & films, I want to primarily to be able to use it for playing PC games at maximum resolution, frame rate and colour depth. If the manufacturers want us to pick their TVs for gaming (which the "game features" modes they include strongly indicates they do) then why aren't the manufacturers including Display Ports (DP) which you find on devices like mainstream gaming PCs? DP 2.1 is about to launch (its already included on AMDs about to launch latest generation of graphics cards) which includes support for configurations such as one 16K display @ 60Hz, two 4K @ 144Hz or three 4K @ 90 Hz, all of which are well above the maximum that even the latest HDMI cable can manage. It would also be nice for them to add a USB C port for direct display input from certain other devices.

Thank for a great review! I've been planning on upgrading my 10-year old Panasonic plasma for a while. Considering the new Panasonic OLEDs (very expensive), the Sony A95 (very expensive) and the Samusung S95B (expensive). Whenever I came close to buying I caught myself thinking: +2000 USD for a TV is nuts. No other way around it. Recently the Samsung has been falling in price and I started churning it over again - finally went with the Samsung. In Poland the 55" Samsung S95B has been priced at • $2185 in August 2022. • currently it's $1610 and a $400 cashback from Samsung, thus it costs: $1200 at the end of the day. Meanwhile the Sony in the same time period has been at • $2900 in August • and has settled in around the $2500 level. For me this means that Samsung is willing to lower their margins, while Sony isn't - which makes sense, since Samsung makes their own panels, while Sony buys them. But at the end of the day it's not my problem as a customer. And paying 100% more for a slight improvement (which I won't see, since I won't have them side by side) doesn't make sense. It's just a TV - I accept the fact that TV operating systems suck, thus I use Apple TV. Of course if someone can afford the Sony then go ahead, but at some point it's like choosing audio equipment - above a certain price point you're just paying for the "feeling"

Personally I've never understood this obsession with cost and price Vs spec. If something is better then call it better. Let people decide if they think its justifying the price. I bought a Sony ZD9 and I love this TV, it was the first mini LED essentially. It doesn't have hdmi 2.1 and has a fairly high input lag but I watch Netflix and it blows me away weekly with its picture quality years later. My point is that I'm 7 years in with this TV and I'm still happy, had I bought an LG CX at the time would I be in this same boat? I doubt it. Sometimes buying the best means you keep something for longer. Sometimes buying the best means you're happy for longer. S95B I'd a throw away TV, 5 years and replaced. A95K is a keeper, it's a wife. Good luck with your decision making.

As of today, November 1st, 2022, my recommendation for those in the market for the highest-performance TVs... You should wait 65 days for CES 2023! The A95K and S95B are nearing the end of their retail life cycles. The new 2023 models will be announced during CES 2023 beginning on January 5th. Expect the 2023 QD-OLED TVs to significantly improve on the 1st generation models in meaningful ways for those who care about such things. We should also expect more choices when it comes to screen size. For everyone else, prices for the leftover 2022s will be at a low. Let's not forget that LG is super competitive and will undoubtedly have amazing new OLED TVs for 2023. This level of competition between TV manufacturers is great for people who want the best TVs!

One thing to consider - Samsung is still frequently monkeying with things in the firmware. If you use it as a simple TV; plug in your cable receiver, PS5, and Apple TV, and leave it off the network, it's pretty terrific. If you want to use the apps and smarts, expect Samsung to change your picture settings and break/fix features every now and again. The updates aren't always great, and rollbacks aren't an option.

The Samsung S95B has an incredible picture but is plagued with a plethora of reasons you shouldn't buy it. 1. The Screen will bend and curve because of how thin it is without any extra stability from the TV casing (I've seen this both in my own that I purchased and am about to return and in every single Best Buy demo TV I saw) 2. Tizen OS is absolutely horrendous, it's extremely difficult to navigate, sometimes clicks will glitch out and not register and sometimes the TV will outright freeze when you are trying to use basic apps like Netflix 3. Further to the above, You are required to go to the home menu which takes forever to load in order to do something so basic as switching inputs on the remote 4. With each firmware update there is zero consistency to the level of brightness Samsung is promising on this TV, the nits output has been completely nerfed since it's initial release 5. No Dolby Vision support, which might not sound like much since they offer HDR10+ but for someone who prefers Netflix, iTunes Store bought content and Disney+ you are reverted back to a basic 4KHDR signal vs. Dolby Vision because Samsung doesn't want to pay the licensing fees for what is an industry standard metadata for a better image 6. Samsung has a higher level of auto dimming that will occur over time when watching content than Sony's TV, possibly due to the fact that Sony implemented a heat sink and samsung didn't but regardless, your TV is likely going to dim during HDR content

The differences are so imperceptible if you are not able to view them side-by-side (and pretty imperceptible if you can). Buy the Samsung and have enough $ to buy very good 65 inch TV for another room. Or apply the savings to a larger screen on the Samsung versus the same price for the Sony. There is a cinematic difference you will definitely see - I’ll take the larger with nearly equal quality, any day.

Also, it just delivers and you know what you get, whereas Samsung.. I guess it could deliver as well (with some luck), but I only read people having bugs and issues tbh. In my store the difference was 620 eur, so I actually chose the Sony, because I was coming from a Samsung which I did not enjoy at all (good picture and sound quality, but the OS was incredibly annoying - slow sometimes and apps just crashed when playing different titles). I think Sony could have had just a couple more downsides and I would still choose it just because I had that experience and wanted to try something new. But I'm sure that would not be the case with most people, so the affordable choice can be a great one too!

The clear winner is the Samsung S95B. First, its cheaper, has more HDMI 2.1 inputs, it is way brighter while gaming than on the Sony´s QD-OLED. Is like comparing two apples but one is cheaper and it has more flavour and features. And i can still use my Home cinema Dolby Atmos soundbar :)

I've had the opportunity to study the S95B for a while. Unfortunately I've only seen the A95K once. I have been able to compare an S95B to an A80K and LG C2. I do think Sony has the advantage in image processing. Not just from the perspective of having Dolby Vision, but from small details. There is a food demo I've seen on the S95B and the A80K. On the A80K the vesicles (that is the proper name of the small teardrop shaped juice pockets that make up the segments of citrus fruits) of a sliced orange are more defined than they are on the S95B. I've also seen more digitization with motion on the S95B than either the Sony A80K or LG C2. Finally, the default color profiles of the various modes on the Samsung TV are, IMHO, horrendous. I might feel different if I were to see the A95K next to the S95B, but Samsung just isn't up to Sony's level on image processing. I know a couple of folks who have bought the S95B, primarily to use for gaming. They love the TV, but both men told me that they had to spend a couple of hours manipulating the color settings to get them right. After that was done, they were super happy with the TV. Every review of these two TVs essentially says the same thing. Both are great, but the Sony is better. I have to agree with most reviewers as well, the original price difference makes it hard to recommend the Sony over the Samsung. As of me posting this comment, we're still looking at a $1k difference in price.

I feel completely different. I've seen the S95B destroy all of Sony's last year's and this year's OLEDs is upscaling brightness and gaming. A95K is the only oled that competes. Since I need a brighter oled I opted out for the Samsung. The QD tech is insane.

@@NexGenTek SDR and color is really where the Samsung wins over WOLEDs. Nothing beats the crispness of a Sony TV regardless of panel technology. They are in a league of their own in terms of processing - they've been doing crazy things for 20 years. You can't watch soccer or tennis on anything but a Sony unless they come up with a new way of shooting the entire field (multiple 4k cameras with the image merged into 4k for super sample crispness) realtime.

Great video Caleb. I liked this one a lot, and it is definitely one of your best videos. It has lots of useful down to earth and common sense information people can use. I enjoy watching the "nit nerd" technical stuff too, but I really like this type of real world evaluation. One thing I would like to know is how well the Samsung upscales regular content, like a slide show. The Sony's (all models I've tried) do a superb job upscaling a cropped photo from my camera. I have had a chance to check out LG ( I currently own an LG Plasma), and they do a terrible job. By that I mean if I crop a photo from my camera to highlight the main subject, the LG will make the picture a small frame in the middle of the screen with black all around. The Sony's always display it full screen to the maximum size it can be based on the image ratio, and still make it very, very sharp. I haven't been able to test a Samsung yet to see how well it does. I know I being picky, but if the TV can't full screen a photo for me, it's off the table. Thanks for this great video comparison.

I like you Caleb, have subscribed to your channel a long time ago but there is a BUT coming... Why do neither you nor anyone else ever talk about football, soccer and dark scenes on the OLEDs? I feel like this is done on purpose. Only Vincent from HDTVTest talks a bit about it. But also not enough. It would make the OLEDs far less attractive would it? Especially with a HUGE OLED problem that is ABL. It would be nice of you to talk - and show - much much more dark scene comparisons and the brightness (or the lack of it) in football/soccer games on the Sony/LG/Samsung high-end OLED models. Thank you!

Absolutely practical conclusion. $1,500 will improve your experience in ways that the sony image quality wont match. imagine having a the sony with it's ever so slight advantages, vs a samung with a 1500 speaker system. or a 800 speaker system an a new couch, or a ps5, or a new gaming computer. the samsung really is the clear winner here. all that said, these are both incredible tvs, especially for first generation qd oled screens. I think the best money is spent in the bank while they work out the issues and the next generation of qd oled tvs come out. until then, save up!

My heart is set on the Sony for Black Friday. Considering the Sony comes with a 5 year warranty which is worth a few hundred is not too bad at under 3k. Samsung is too risky when it comes to quality and firmware updates. The Samsung price at the moment is very competitive though.
