It's been another crazy week for Sony as they announce their 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro console, PS5 Slim, DualSense Edge, and more. They do look good, but things aren't looking so good with more PS4 Remasters possibly on the way. Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone seem poised to get native PS5 versions. And yet, there's a third Remaster that seems more exciting? Freedom Wars Remastered! Sony is licensing out their IP now. And well, we should also mention Firewalk's Game Director stepping down. And Concord's future still remains uncertain. Like I said, there's a lot going on! And that's why this LTPS is poppin' off. This might be the longest one ever. Not a record I was looking to beat, I'll be honest folks.

Ryan’s the first person I’ve heard mention the blindingly obvious fact that the PS5 faceplates are removable and thus, a whole new console is pointless. The lack of unique (and easily available) faceplates is a HUGE disappointment from Sony. But not surprising. As a 1st Gen PS5 owner, I’m not even a customer to them anymore.

You know, early this year there was rumor of a Gravity Rush 2 PS5 Remaster (as well as PC). The game is eight years old this month, and that game warrants a current gen remaster far more than Horizon Zero Dawn or Days Gone in my opinion, especially with a GR movie apparently coming too, which I definitely want to go see. I loved Gravity Rush 2 back in the day, it was one of the first PS4 games i ever played. I might get the Days Gone PS5 Remaster regardless. I really liked Days Gone, even if it's not my favorite game of all time, and want to support that IP, alongside Assassin's Creed Syndicate.

Final Fantasy WAS the biggest JRPG franchise in the world until 12 and 13 were mid, and Miyazaki changed the industry with Dark Souls. The western market wants Lies of P and Black Myth Wukong much more than FF16.

13 was too anime. 15 was unfinished. 16 has the bones to make the 17 even better. Let players explore more, with meaning. Give players more attributes to control. Gaming industry is falling more in line with what we have come to see from the film industry. Obviously projects are expensive and take time. Its why you see remakes, remasters, or sequels. Nobody wants to make anything without a popular IP and take a risk on something new due to the cost. Also games today dont bring anything new to the table. Almost every open world game feels the same or looks the same due to the engine its on. There is no creativity anymore.

The cost is a lie. A big reason for the cost isn't the actual development itself but their horrible internal procedures that create cost. Back in the end days a few blocks sat and made a game and registered a company name. People think is just because they didn't have to do as detail graphics but is not that. Is because there wasn't any waste of time. Because they just went there and sat and started working and talked about what they were making while working etc. Now you have to call special meetings upon meetings, talk to HR departments, and inclusivity advisors and even more meetings about internal procedures and go threw 5 managers etc etc. No one is actually just making the game. This companies became their own worst enemy.

I think the SIE platform CEO is a bit deluded with that statement. It sounds disconnected. PC and pc platforms are vastly catching up to consoles in terms of usability and ease of use. Heck, there isn't much to seperate a steamdeck from a console like experience. Even sony optimizes their ps5 games for the steamdeck. Hardware that's less powerful than a ps4 pro. They probably think they can afford to be anti consumer with paid online, no exclusives, paid cloud saves. They'll get a rude awakening, when people ditch a platform, it isn't easy to get them back. Especially when consumers adjust to getting everyone's "exclusives" on pc If valve make a new steam console again, there will be very little to justify a ps5 or ps6 if they continue on their current path

Days Gone got a PS4Pro patch, it looks and plays great, and doesn't need a remaster. It needs a sequel.

My thoughts too. Remasters make sense for the reasons Ryan says and in this instance a good way to get new staff up to speed. My hope would be that if the remaster did well it might finally convince Sony to greenlight a sequel, as long as they take into account the sales on a remaster will be impacted to a degree by those people that already played it on the PS4 (many of those that did so via it's inclusion in psplus essentials)

PS5 remasters are great. You get just that much more refined image quality and performance wherever possible, and the opportunity for additional improvements like faster SSD loading, Dual Sense controller features, 3D audio, potential fixes and maybe even a new mode or something. To me, it's no different than a movie on blu-ray getting a 4K remaster with a new scan, transfer, new special features etc. TLOU 2 remaster was great, because it didn't look smeary with blown out lighting anymore. Running the back compat version at 60 fps, with increased temporal clarity, just showed how the textures, motion blur, and lighting was made with 30 fps in mind. The remaster fixed all that and now it's serving as an even better base for what the Pro can do with it. Unless it's a full blown remake, there's a $10 upgrade for anyone who already actually owns it or you can just play the backwards compatible version for free. So nobody's being price gouged and that's a false narrative. We all watch Digital Foundry videos, see a whole world of PC gamers chasing image quality and performance, trying to install texture and lighting mods etc. Why all the crying and pretending nobody cares about image quality and improvements? All the talk about wasting resources is baseless too. It's a revenue stream which keeps the whole operation running, which means all ongoing development is kept solvent. I just do not understand other games, man. Open the floodgates. We could be past Bloodborne and onto the deep cuts already if it wasn't for all the whining.

Hope not. From what I heard at the dev team they hated working on the game due to the director (I think was his title) being an ass during all of production. The devs were the ones that asked Sony if they could do something else instead of a sequel and Sony said yes.

The perception issue with all the remasters is not that Sony is just doing remasters because they have no new games. The issue is that they're doing a bunch of projects no one wants or asked for. No one asked for Spiderman, Horizon, Days Gone and TLOU P2 remasters. No one asked for TLOU P1 and Until Dawn remakes. When people see those, they understandably go "if they're gonna do a remaster/remake, why not do (insert PS3 game here) instead? This game doesn't need a remaster/remake" People won't know or care that they're used as onboarding projects. They just see unnecessary projects. And as a side note: Even if the argument for remasters of recent games makes sense as onboarding projects, the remakes of such recent games are undeniably ridiculous. Remaking old games with new tools would both be more interesting and probably far easier and cheaper than remaking newer games anyway, since older games tend to be far simpler

To Sony: my PC my choices my freedom. Using a PS5 console platform gates me, I have little choice and freedom, and don't have all the tools I need. I admit that some games do run better on the PS5 than on my monster gaming PC, but that's because of poor optimisation and bad port to PC, in which case I'll use the PS5 naturally. In the end, it's not about a console OR a PC, just get both.

I was thinking the same. This is reminiscent to the PS3 days. The price was very high, they didn't release any major titles during the first half of the generation and people were complaining. The difference is that XBOX was doing great back then so they had to keep up and release amazing games that's how they stepped up and the second half of the PS3 life was amazing, but now XBOX is doing pretty bad, they have even less games than Sony and it's not a competition anymore. Let's just hope that they have games on their bag and are just waiting to announce them in the rest of the year, if not then we will most likely not have great games and they'd save that for the PS6. Which is crazy to think but it might be released in just a few more years.

The game flopped. Even the director posted a tweet about how everyone should have supported the game at release instead of listening to the stupid critics and KZbinrs. It increased its numbers during the pandemic but it was at a very low price and I believe it was given for free by Sony alongside Horizon at some point during the pandemic. It was too late so it's not a big surprise that we won't be having a sequel.
