Great restoration Roger, slightly mean but it would be funny if it ended up with another plasterer 😂 it came out really well especially given the state it was in when it arrived. Well done! 👍👍👍

Thanks Orwells...., not crazy at all! I think a youtube video should be something you can snooze to, entertaining enough to stop the viewers mind wandering to more taxing things, but calm enough that you can nod off and pick it up again later if needed! I watch a lot of content like that, if I want excitement I'll go out and do something or watch a movie. Glad you are enjoying the content. Thanks so much for your best wishes and kind words.

Brilliant repair! Thoroughly enjoyed this repair video! You should record some youtube royalty free music onto a tape if you have to demonstrate music, in the future, I seen others do it! So many things like that would end up in landfills so bravo for the rescue!
@RetroTechRepair
@RetroTechRepair 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks @Tomorrowsphere I'm really glad you enjoyed the video. My problem in this case was that the boombox is the only tape recorder i had and has no line in or mic socket! So I couldn't connect my phone or lap top to it to play music in (without some fussing). The radio I recorded was classical, but it turns out from a late 20th century composer and therefore still in copyright. Nightmare! Anyway yes youtube audio library is a great suggestion 👌 Glad you enjoyed the video, although I lost quite a bit on the vid I think keeping it out of landfill was worth it and I hope it goes on to play lots more music in a nicer environment. Thanks as always for your continued support. Hope you are well

I had a radio like this one in the very early 1990s. I bought because it had a digital tuner so i could tune in a heavy metal station that was about impossible to dial in to with the manual tuners.
@RetroTechRepair
@RetroTechRepair 5 ай бұрын
Great story. Thanks for sharing. I also liked the digital tuner as I am terrible at messing up and being unable to fix dial cords. How was the heavy metal? My guess is it lacked a bit of oomph through those speakers.

@@RetroTechRepair Well back then subwoofers were the being built for the rap crowd and the thumper cars not that I didn’t want any of that because I did because I believed it attracted the ladies back then. Metal sounded excellent on it. The speakers were just fine for what I listened to back then mostly grunge as that was when Nirvana showed up and took over the music world. I did like some rap and RNB just not like Metal and grunge. Nirvana, Jane’s Addiction, Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots and Pearl Jam. It didn’t have much of any bass and I didn’t care. For metal I listened to Helmet, Metallica and Sepultura.

It's pretty amazing how good low price speakers are these days. You can find Presonus Eris E3.5 for under $100 each new for example. Granted these are powered studio monitors so they don't have audio source such as audio tape or radio tuner. But if you consider you can buy these for a couple of hundred and then compare it to what a boom box sounds like, which was sold for around the same price back in the day, the difference is staggering.

Hi Skyway73. Always exciting to see your comments glad you liked the video. Something a bit different. I toyed with the cassette scene a bit but decided to keep it as I do remember for me opening cassettes and CDs was like owning something "new" for the first time. It had some kind of occasion back in the day. Odd how food packaging or every day stuff somehow didn't have that same feeling but a cassette might mean you could copy some games from your mates or tape new album or top 40 chart recording on Sunday. It doesn't seem there is much tangible physical stuff that teenagers today can get for pocket money which is a shame really. Anyway thanks as ever for your comments and continued support for the channel. Always very much appreciated

When you said it didn't smell good I half thought you might pop a magic tree in there to freshen it up! Shame about the numbers at the end, maybe donate to a good cause if you do something similar (Sony Walkman? Go on, you know you want to!!) 😉 Thanks for making these videos, always look forward to watching them.

Thanks Matt, glad that you enjoyed the vid. I must admit when I first saw it, I was wondering what I'd got into. I've actually donated quite a few things to charity... if I can find someone to take it. Nobody near me seems to want anything that is mains powered. Shame really when I lived in the states I used to browse the goodwill for stuff and they would take even broken things for e-waste recycle. Anyway one day your Walkman will come, but until then thanks as ever for your encouragement and feedback. Roger

Roger, you done a really amazing job on that, came up looking rather well considering the state it was in. Was thinking if you wrapped the bottom of that Antenna in Tin Foil would it give you better reception? Had a few laughs at some of your comments, you're very witty. Keep up the good work. Mick 👍🤣👏🍻
@RetroTechRepair
@RetroTechRepair 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mick. Glad you liked the video. I've had a few comments on the antenna which in fairness was the worst part of the job. I considered epoxy that i rejected because I wanted to be able to replace again if needed, hot melt which is worried might look bad and aluminum tape (which I didn't have) but never foil, good idea!. The electrical connection on the original design was all via the screw into the brass section with only a thin wire to the RF board and the part of the case that contacts the part of the antenna that was taped is all plastic. So in this instance I'm not sure it would have helped, but its definitely something to consider if I do another radio and it might provide better mechanical support too. Glad you find my occasional jokes entertaining, like the radio they get a "mixed reception". As always I appreciate the feedback, questions, suggestions and am grateful for your taking the time to comment. Sincere thanks.
