I actually picked up an a7c at the end of last year as an upgrade over the a6300 I had previously. Even though it's basically a 4 year old camera in a new body, I'm absolutely loving it. Even if a hypothetical a5 was an option, I don't think it would be worth saving that little bit of money.

I'd love to see the Sonys incorporate a top LCD Screen, it helps so much when running and gunning to see your settings without have to compete with all the other things on the back screen and evf.

I would only consider a A9iii if the sensor was bumped to 33 MP. Wouldn’t make sense to have the A7iv with more resolution, similar video capabilities, but have a $2,500 price adder to the A9iii, and sacrifice resolution. Would love to see the A9 series become the fast processing, “Pro” version of the A7 base series. Especially if a A5 is introduced.

Would love to see a new apsc model for photographers not vloggers. Maybe taking some of the auto focus tech from the a1 to include bird eye recognition

A99 II screen on the A9 III, the flippy screen is such a pain to use when you're under a rain cover doing sports.

I can not double this comment enough! We all need those screens back on every camera except the "vlogging" models to keep the whiner vloggers society silent!

@@networm64 it's not about vlogging! I do portraits and I NEED a flippy screen (or at least a 3ways tilting screen) for low-angle shots and above-head shots. I can't keep lying on the ground and/or guessing every composition when I'm shooting low or high in a sunny day

@@RiccardoGabarriniKazeatari I bet you have no idea what a A99/A77 screen was like! You would have never had a single problem with it! I do landscape photography and I do vertical shots from time to time, but only 10% or less of my shots. I don't like to have an extra move to take the LCD out and also remain with an unbalanced camera in my hand for most of my shots only cause needed a little tilted up screen while with a tip of my finger☝and one instant move I could do the same in my tilt only screen. Z9 solution looks way better than this crappy flippy screen. But A99/A77 solution were light years better than both! Believe me for videography it was a treasure!

A9m3 with 24MP 20fps & 4k120 10bit 4:2:2 is perfect hybrid. But please have screen like A99ii, not that intrusive vari angle screen. It just makes the workflow non cohesive.

A9 is not meant to be hybrid nor video oriented, it's all about speed. The A1 does 30fps so there's no reason why the "speed camera" should do less. It will have nice video specs because they will be free to add.

A5, not so really because really A7C is that A9 III I can see happening because the II was just a tiny update A7R V should come. I believe A7R Models are refreshed every 2 years.

As an A6300 owner with a financial situation more in line with APS-C, I am curious about Sony's interest in updating that line of cameras... Yes or no? As things are the answer to that question might not come in 2022. I'd be interested in one with the auto focus magic of the full frame cameras, a new sensor handling noise better and updated menus. Better in camera stabilisation wouldn't be amiss.

@@Garbid Good for a pre 2022 buy! Or in my mine a Pre 2020 buy.... It's ridiculous now you can buy a fullframe in any system with that price range. Sony needs to overhaul the whole apsc lineup.

@@networm64 apsc upgrade is way overdue, we need 10bit 4k60 new menus, active ibis & same AF system like in a7iv, plus there's a lot of good apsc glass now

While many sites are saying the a9III isn’t necessary, I say it is.. that’s a big price point gap missing in the lineup from $3600-$6200.. they could do it with current parts and little work.. use the A1 body, 5.7 EVF to keep costs down, use the 33mp stacked sensor we know they probably have as the grade A version of the a7IV’s sensor, 30fps and the processing is just fine with the A1 processors, maybe do a cropped 24mp 60fps photos, 4K60 10bit with color profiles (AP Press-journalist-sports needs some video), price it at $4600 and it’ll fly off the shelves as an alternative to the A1.. Boom! maybe the next top selling mid flag ship of all time.. want to battle the R6 more? Give it 6k from that 33mp sensor as an option

I don't need more megapixels in the a7RV, would instead love to see the option to shoot 24 or maybe even 30fps uncompressed raw images for up to 1 minute or more depending on the processor and memory capability. I really love the HLG on my a7RIII and would love to see the 4K 60 and 120 version, also the 4:3 or 3:2 full sensor video recording modes with slightly more dynamic range and less compression. Also would love to see Raw images with 16bit colors.

Sony. Make a proper R5 competitor. The A7IV is 4k/60 crop, no 4K 120 and 33mp at 6fps. The A7SIII is 12mp. The A1 is $6500. As much as I'd like to stay with Sony, the upcoming R5c might be tempting.

My prediction is. Most likely we will see an A7Cii by the end of 2022, then an a5, an a7rv and an a9iii are the next cameras and a new model of the a6xxx, the R0iii, this time with AFC, could also come.

Already have a6600. I need only second card slot. If they will release a6600 with dual card slot will buy it immediately. If not probably will go for Fuji. They already started to have good lens choice. Only AF must be improved next gen. They already have dual card slot.

I feel like the a7c should just bring the price down because I wouldn’t want any features lower than A7c. I love my a7c….great little camera. They should just put all the picture profiles in a9iii. $5K is steep….I would just go A1 at that point…..they need to update 85mm and updated 24-70mm. I think they also need to make a 50mm 1.8 G lens. Great video

I would definitely love to see a 50mm 1.8 G 🙌 something similar in design to the 20mm. I know Sony not too long ago released the 50mm f2.5 G but after testing I really did notice a difference between f1.8 & f2.5, especially in low light - but gosh the current 50mm f1.8 in every other regard, especially design & quality is extremely outdated.

A9iii, why would they stay at 20fps? It's going to be minimum 33MP @30fps, and possibly faster.

an A7C around a $1000 with ZV features would be it, entry full frame would be all Sony. But i don't think we'll get there until Sony decides what to discontinue and what to prioritize. Also chip shortage that sucks

My wishes: Sony A9 III - something, which should be better than Canon R3, which is a great at low light performance. Sony A1 II - flagship of flagships (something, which is similar to Sony A9 III, but with more megapixels). Sony 7R5 - crazy amount of megapixels. Get rid of SD Cards! I wish that one day they should switch to PCIe SSDs. Also, they should allow people to write/install third-party software for object tracking/detection. I will be happy to Switch from Sony A7 IV to Sony A1 II if it has better storage options than the first version of the camera.

Well, I'm a part Tomek wedding photographer - my main camera is a7III my B camera is a6100, I would buy A5 as a6100 replacement because another a7III or a7IV is just too expensive for me. :)

Incremental changes, changing the number that appears at the end of the model name. No big updates on the models from Sony and no completely new models. What about lenses?

Tony Northrup predicted the A5 already long ago for 799 USD only.... :o) /edit A EVF-less A5 would have a hard time for 1200 USD with 24 MP, and 5 fps, because the Nikon Z5 does have a) IBIS b) very good WR (weather-sealing) as good as the Z6&Z7(II) Series, and all feature a very good, optical EVF with quality Lenses in front of the EVF Panel, and 3.68 MP, also Dual Card Slots.

I agree with you in many cases Danny. I think the Northrups are crazy on the whole A5 with that crowded price point.. maybe a version of the current a7 II and yes it needs to go bye too.. maybe a crazy cheap $899 full frame just to piss on the m5 or RP.. God knows they have the parts bin, short of chips.. I think we could see the a9III with a higher end Grade A stacked version of the a7IV's 33mp sensor and maybe compressed RAW 40+fps??.. Hoping the a7RV stays at 61mp but with major overhaul of some video and go on up to 20fps.. 102mp is eclipsing high "niche" factor.. 61mp is enough for billboards so unless they're just trying to cheese for Canon we won't see a 102mp full frame sensor anytime soon.. It just puts in in an almost unusable tiny sales target audience for the accountants demands.. As an a7RIV user those files are already too large (My other half uses it to shoot weddings for gods sake :) I still can't get used to your hair. I had friends in southern Cal in the '80s with that doo.. Cheers man!!

A6600 will be the last good apsc camera not for vloggers. The fully articulated screen is really annoying, too slow to setup for run and gun situations or too cumbersome when trying to be discreet.

yea the articulating screen is annoying, but it also has less moving parts & doesn't get blocked if something is in hot-shoe, I like the flip up screen because when you talk into camera you can actually look into the screen & it will seem like you are looking at the lens, also easy for low/high angle photos & video

My wishes for Sony A7RV are improved sensor and improved IBIS, a 9.5+Mp EVF with 1.2x optical magnification, dials for shutter and ISO, ONLY tilt screen ! NO video functions or at least the option to shut OFF/Hide ALL video functions !!! But for me new prime Lenses are much more important, my first wish for Lenses are a 1.4x Teleconverter for the Sony 135mm 1.8 GM, Tele Prime Lenses fx 300mm 4.0, 400mm 4.5 and 500mm 5.6, also superior Lenses that are a bit more compact than GM Lenses and more rugged with very high resolution, so better optical performance than any GM Lens ! fx 14mm 2.8 GMS, 24mm 2.0 GMS, 35mm 2.0 GMS, 60mm 2.0 GMS, 85mm 2.0 GMS and 135mm 2.8 GMS, all with aperture rings and easy manual focus option (S = superior), also new Macro Lenses with very easy manual focusing and aperture rings (no stabilizer). I have Sony A7RIII, Sony A7RIV and Sony A7RIVA, Sony 14mm 1.8 GM, Sony 24mm 1.4 GM, Voigtländer 35mm 2.0 APO Lanthar, Sony Zeiss Sonnar 55mm 1.8, Voigtländer 65mm 2.0 Macro APO Lanthar, Sony 135mm 1.8 GM, Sony 200-600mm 5.6-6.3 G and a lot of analog manual adapted Lenses, fx Leica R and Canon FDn Lenses. I NEVER do video ! I am a nature still photographer, but also do fx street photography.

a5? Urgh... Ithink an update of the APS-C range (more dials/controls, fully articulating screen, faster readout sensor) would be much better at this price. Also differentiates it from the A7C.

If an A5 had 10bit video I'd buy it as a B or C camera. There are no Sony cameras with 10 bit under 2600 dollars.

These high end bodies don't need a selfie screen. I totally appreciate the desire for a screen for low or high angle portrait shots, but we should be demanding a multi directional articulating screen when that much money is already being spent. Something where you don't have to view it from the side, or flip it out and then remember which direction to rotate it as part of step 2 of viewing it.

It's not a selfie screen. It's a flip out and any which way you want, for high or low ground angles. You can't do that with that idiotic flip up/down only fixed screen. I was ready to buy an A1 but I refused to with that stupid flip up/down screen. Canon is correct with their R5 "flippy" screen.

@@garrettstevensen2467 which is why I am arguing for a dual axis tilting screen like on some fujis and even some older sonys like a99ii. There isn't a need to flip forward on a high end camera, even if the two axis tilt is a more expensive or complex option. It is intuitive and fast to position it without having to remember which direction it rotates, cradle it out to the side, or take two steps to rotate it to a usable position like you do with the flip forward selfie screen. An expensive camera deserves a better option.

Thanks for the entertaining thoughts on possible new Sony gear! Of course you know it's crazy talk! 😉 I would guess most of us are not pros, nor can we afford most of these possible new cameras. Also I would like to think there are a few of us that seldom do video and are just still photographers. I wonder why we can't have a true , fully articulating screen? I mean one that can make the flippy screen people happy and the tilt screen fans happy. Personally I can't see a flippy screen on an A7rv and probably not on an A9III. I mean, why would you buy a 60 Mp camera for video or for portraits? Do you need that as a content creator? I mean it is almost too much resolution for most applications, other than wildlife photographers that might want to do a lot of cropping. Or still photographers that print really huge prints! And $4000 is crazy. I think the A7iv is all the camera most people need -- maybe even more camera than they need. I don't. I'm sticking with my A7III without flippy screen! 🙂 But am interested in all the cool new technology and these related discussions.

I hate the flip up/flip down screens. Flip out (the way Canon did with the R5) is the way to go. I wouldn't buy it with a flip up screen. It's useless unless you are directly behind the camera.

@@garrettstevensen2467 😀 understood. The advantage of the flip screen is obvious for video when shooting content and when you are the subject matter. For still photography it is useful in portrait mode. In landscape mode it is totally awkward, not inline with the lens, especially for travel when using a neck strap, shooting waist level or over head. Truthfully, in daylight I mostly use the EVF. So it is really a matter of personal preference. BTW, they are generally called “tilt screens”. 😉

How do you think the A7RV would compare to the A7IV or even the A7SIII? That excites me! Also, if any camera comes out without the flippy screen, it's absolutely a no go for me.

Same here. I passed on the A1 because of that idiotic flip up/down fixed screen. Canon is correct with their "flippy" screen. If they put that same screen from the A1 on the new R5, then I'll vote with my dollar and not give them one.

The sub $1k FF camera will never happen. Chip shortage, inflation, etc… the market for a budget full frame is a waste of time and money. Full frame is for serious artists and a7c is as stripped down as it can get with great features. Seeing that the a7c was really close in price to the a7iii and now the 7iv is much higher shows the tier bump. My prediction is that Sony will focus on computational stuff to compete with smartphones with future cams.
