The Sony 16-55 2.8 and the new Sigma 18-50 2.8 are such killer-lenses for Sony APS-C, you simply have no equal full-frame alternative with this small form factor. Also with the great Sigma f1.4 prime lenses you have full-frame performance in a very compact form factor. This alone is such a big reason for APS-C, I can't imagine that Sony will drop APS-C. The demand is there, for good reasons.

The sony 16-55 2.8 isn't exactly compact though. It really needs a mark 2 with OSS.
@Thunderbird1337
@Thunderbird1337 Жыл бұрын
@@anonymousl5150 Compactness is relative. For what it offers, the lens is very compact. There is no other APS-C lens with this range and image quality in this size. If you want it smaller, like the 18-50 2.8, you have to take compromises. 16mm vs 18mm is a huge difference. OSS would only make this lens bigger, don't think people would like that.

I actually use an a6600 with the Tamron 17-70 for doing weddings and quinceaneras. It is a very affordable setup costing only about a little under 2k total and my clients purchase photo first packages and pay extra for home video style coverage (It's a culture thing and I don't know how else to explain it.) But that is a great little setup with the added bonus of the crop factor actually being an asset because it lets us use a 2.8 and have it act like an f4 or something I haven't done the math but it lets me get more stuff in focus while gathering the same amount of light. I do a lot of parties and events for people who come from mexico and they are not accustomed to a lot of background blur in their videos or pictures and trust me I found it weird at first too but hey it pays my bills.

Well, not sure if this is correct. Yes, with APS-C you have higher Depth of Field at a given aperture. But a full-frame sensor usually has better ISO performance. Maybe the better ISO performance compensates the loss of light when using smaller aperture (for more DOF).

I don’t think APS-C is dead. This chip shortage is really messing with them right now. I remember they had a Paton for a new APS-C camera and it was never released last year. I am guessing this chip shortage delayed that. I think the ZV-E10 replaced the a6100 so no need for them to make that. Crazy that they stopped production on a new ZV-E10 though. @Thunderbird1337

You are ruining the whole purpose of APS-C when using just full-frame lenses. The purpose of APS-C is being smaller/ lighter than full-frame. Besides that, full-frame lenses are usually in a different price category than the old A6000. It wouldn't make much sense to combine high priced lenses with a low-price beginner camera. There are a lot of great affordable lenses which fit perfectly with an A6000. If you really want to switch to full-frame someday, sell everything then. Lenses are relatively price stable. So there's no reason now to buy expensive and large lenses wich are not meant being used for your camera, just because you could eventually switch someday in the future.

@@donquique1 Yes, the Sigma f1.4 trio (16mm, 30mm, 56mm) is an absolute killer. The 56mm is my absolute favourite lens, I use it all the time. But I sold the 16mm. For me personally it doesn't make much sense, it's the biggest/ heaviest of the Sigma trio and for landscapes the 16mm are quite limiting and f1.4 not needed. I started with an a5000 five years ago, added an a6000, and then an a6400. On the lens side, my collection consists of the 12mm Samyang MF, 16mm Sigma, 35mm Sony f1.8 OSS, 56mm Sigma, Sigma 18-50mm f2.8, Sony 70-350mm G, and the 1650 kit lens. So from this list, one can see that I'm quite deep within the Sony APS-C system. That also comes from the trust (or hope?) that the Sony APS-C market is still working in it's mid to high price range for the next 5-10 years or so. With the current situation I just hope that Sony puts some of its R&D to provide a substantial update to the line within 2022-2023. If they don't, I'll keep all my stuff anyway & use it till it's all finally dead. And then I'll never buy Sony again, as I do not reward betrayal. But I don't think Sony will give up that market segment and it's substantial share in it, as this would be extremely stupid. But I understand their current situation and focusing on the flagship models makes sense. So is APS-C dead? Maybe, maybe not...

Order some more 6600 as long as they are available - They are great. Used one for over a year or even 1.5 years (and had a 2nd one for a few months). Its a classical "no brainer" price / performance / features wise. Huge pros: No overheating in video mode (tested it also through the summer at 30°C air temperature multiple times up to over 3h each test), reaches easily over three hours of non stop 4k recording - Therefor two batteries are normaly enough for a whole shooting day. And the internal stabilisation, headphone port, EVF (though small at least there is one) and the non existing 30 minute video recording limit are kind of the "icing" on top. You can really concentrate on shooting with this model (which is great for learning - The hardware shouldn´t limit your creativity ^^).

Canon rp is alright, its still a decent camera but for a hybrid setup the a6600 is a far better camera for both photo and video. I'd go for the canon R6 at least if im going canon route

I like fuji concept. Dual card slots, colour, film emulations... But .. I need best AF available. At the moment in apsc it's sony. So I continue my a6000 with a6600. If sony will come with dual card slot apsc will buy it immediately.

I believe it's a Sony ploy to push sales of their full frames (including the A1)...most are gathering dust on retailer's shelves. Frankly, I may reconsider Sony after the BS Nikon recently pulled prioritizing NPS customers over non-NPS regardless of dates the NPS pre-order was submitted.
@rboydphotography
@rboydphotography 2 жыл бұрын
Aps-c is here to stay, this hurdle will eventually pass. Sony are likely just prioritising all their biggest pre-orders while they have limited chip supply. Aps-c is its own system and is great for the less professional minded and even the professionals who do not 'need' a full frame system. There is a big market for people who are thinking about moving out of mobile photography to a specialised system.

Sony's aspc line is just lackluster/stagnant compared to their FF line. One could even get better overall result with super35 mode on a7r4 than with their best apsc a6600.

I hope that's not the case, APS-C has definitely not gotten as much attention compared to Full-Frame.

As a Fujifilm convert (from Canon DSLRs 5 years ago), I feel that Sony would be savvy to just cancel their A6xxx system and declare APS-C "dead". It might be a better marketing ploy than the status quo, which (to my eye) makes Fuji look better and better with every passing year. Then again, maybe Sony engineers think that APS-C sensor technology may soon enough catch up to FF... Anyway, I think one lesson your students can benefit from is to learn to use whatever gear they have and not blame the gear for their own shortcomings. Cheers!

Sony is making no effort to help APSC to stay alive the 16-55 f2.8 is still too expensive Tamron and Sigma are keeping the APSC alive... Not everbody can put 1000 Euros in a G master lens... APSC is a good compromise... Maybe Fuji for my next camera...

It is not only a click bait. Sony have released absolutely nothing for APS-C for the last 2 years (except yet another vlogging camera). So we definitely have to wonder it they are killing APS-C slowly.
@Garbid
@Garbid 2 жыл бұрын
@@TVe200 i think they have shortage in sensors and etc. Fuji and other brands are close in apsc. So they need to come with pro apsc body as xt4. As for me if they will add dual card slot into a6600 it will be enough. Best AF in apsc. Good lens choice. ISO performance. Z battery and dual card slot will kill all competitors.
