I follow this channel because of your passion for KOTOR. I too am a person who played kotor when I was very young, like 13 years old (im 32 now). KOTOR is what got me into RPGs and gaming in general and I have replayed the game over 100 times, listened to the ost hundreds of times over the years, etc. Whenever I want to see any news on the remake, I come to your channel. I'm really curious as to why the KOTOR games are so problematic. KOTOR is a complete game with limited bugs. It has just aged and could probably use a bit more content but has great gameplay and story. It's a guaranteed hit aswell so why the struggle? KOTOR 2 on the otherhand is an unpolished gem. I've replayed that one repeatedly before and after the mods. But we can't even get a good Switch port for it. I'd hate to see these games fall into obscurity but i lose hope every time I hear news.

I think it’s an ego thing. You see, these people are fully aware that outside of graphical updates, even the slightest change to the dialogue, character design, or art style would ENRAGE the fanbase (rightfully so). We also happen to live in an era where most people who are hired to resurrect a dormant, beloved IP/product have less concern about honoring what came before, and more concerned about establishing themselves and putting their own stamp on what they’re working on. Knowing they’ll get crucified for this fills them with resentment, sometimes even hatred for what they’re working on, because they’re forced to confront that it’s not about themselves. So where they would typically put ina great deal of effort to ensure that production goes smoothly, because they’re working on something beloved that they didn’t come up with, they just don’t care and allow mistake after mistake to be made because they’re not getting any personal glory out of this anyway

My brain went to when Disney removed a bunch of their own shows like willow off of Disney plus to save money paying residuals and the like. With the game in limbo at the moment I can see Sony letting specific music licenses expire and taking down the trailer to save money until the game is closer to release, this may become a more normal thing in the digital media as companies look to cut costs. Or it’s something else entirely, god knows with these things.

Very hard to say when it'll come out as in one hand what aspyr made was near completion, but on the other hand just how much are they going to rework off of what aspyr started? It could be all of it or just some parts, the whole combat could be shifted. Hopefully it just slight adjustments so that it can come within the next two years

It seems like the game is dead for now and not being actively worked on. Any ties with Sony may have been dropped. There's no real reason why the music license should expire on a trailer for an upcoming product. Embracer is undergoing a lot of turmoil after their failed $2 Billion finance deal fell through. The game will re-emerge some years from now when much more solid production plans are in place. It may have missed the 20th anniversary of KOTOR, but it could still show up for the 25th or 30th.

Sony perhaps wants to save money. They have to pay out royalties and/or renew their license to the original owners of the soundtrack (Lucasfilm) to be able to avoid copyright issues.

if this game genuinely is cancelled (looking likely). if they let it happen then they're stupid. i've completed this game numerous times, not even just the story but the worlds, atmosphere and characters are genuinely great. it's a no brainer. i bet the underwater mission on manaan would be breathtaking with people going insane, giant shark damaging the base and much smaller giant sharks swimming around to try kill you. or the Tattooine ambushes by the sand people and fighting the krayt dragon. Kashyyyk and the eerie forest noises of lurking danger and the intense relations with the wookies. i could go on and on about how perfectly crafted this game is and why if they bottle this game. they're beyond stupid. this NEEDS to be remade.

360? Do you have an Xbox one or series X? If so I recommend playing on that because the back compat on that is SO MUCH BETTER than it ever was on 360. Xbox 360 emulation more or less barely worked and it made KOTOR 2 (an already buggy experience on console with no content restoration mod) even buggier.

so thinking of the lore and especially with recent events in the Ahsoka series. I'm thinking back to the issues that EA was having when trying to produce more content and had to go through some approval process that took 6 to 9 months to get a response . I get the feeling that Filoni and the lucasfilm peeps have a plan to appropriately blend legends into cannon and a release like this could be so confusing to the worldbuilding that is currently in progress. It just feels weird that music that sounds like it was made *specifically for the game/trailer* is being yanked on copyright grounds. Maybe it is just weird music copyright nonsense, but I have this nagging thought that Disney/Lucasarts owns these assets and is pulling Sony’s access to them as they kick them off of the project entirely. Then again, if that were the case, I’d expect Sony to respond with a “no comment” rather than an unequivocal “yes, the game is still in development.”
