A very helpful hands on review....amazing how consumer handycams have developed in the intervening 10 years that makes old technology really not usable even when buying cheap used ones . Thanks for the video.

hi Paul. Great video. i'm in the market for a camera at the moment and im wondering if you'd still buy this camera now in 2019 or would you recommend a newer model?
@PaulHughesVideo5 жыл бұрын
Hi Gavin, if you are interested in HD work only I’d definitely recommend this camera, I’ve since bought the Canon XF705 to make my move to 4K production, but the NX5R is still an excellent choice. I still use mine regularly, for theatre work etc.. but I’ll be selling one of my NX5R’s early in 2020 when I buy another XF705.

Thanks I have been waiting for this. I wish you would shoot some video and compare it with another camera. If you could do that I would appreciate it. How is it in low light? I have been using Sony Ex1 cameras for many years and the 1/2 inch sensors made it a great camera in low light situations. I demo tested the JVC HM620 which is also a 3 chip 1/3inch camera. Same stuff but no wifi. I like the wifi since I do video streaming. The new JVC was definitely an improvement over the EX1 with richer color and 23x lens but not as good in low light. However with higher gain and better technology the higher gain without grain seems to help in lower light situations. WOuld love to see some footage. Ed

Hi Ed, Thank you for your comment.. I can't promise I will get time to shoot sample footage this week, but if I do I'll link to it in the description. I'm not a fan of gain at all and rarely use it, only when other lighting options aren't available will I reluctantly add some. Paul.

hi there! great video! I would love to find out if i can put a fisheye on this camera? it seems that thats is no information about this subject.
@PaulHughesVideo7 жыл бұрын
Francis Ali this is a fixed lens camera, it's not possible to add a fish eye lens as far as I'm aware.

thx for the quick response. am i mistaking or dont this camera have a thread to screw on a conversion lens?
@PaulHughesVideo7 жыл бұрын
there is indeed a thread, so you may be able to get a conversion

I am not familiar with the nx5E. Is that the Euro version of the nx5? Looks like the new 5R is not as good in low light as the Nx5E.
@PaulHughesVideo8 жыл бұрын
Yes, the NX5E is the PAL version. I have to agree it doesn't look as as good in low light, despite having the slightly larger sensor? .. The newer model also struggled with auto focus as well, where the older model didn't. Both cameras were tested side by side, with exact same settings.
@PaulHughesVideo8 жыл бұрын
That said, in a hotel setting with dimmed light the difference isn't noticeable.. I can't think of a single situation in my career where I have had to film in such extreme low light conditions.

Hello, I am using this Camera for making some video tutorials. But facing an issue with the clips duration. The videos are getting splitted automatically after every 12 min 35 seconds. Where to change to continuous shooting?
@PaulHughesVideo7 жыл бұрын
Import your clips using Sonys content manager.. it will rejoin longer clips into one.
@kanaisarker97687 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot. But isn't there any option for recording continuously?
@PaulHughesVideo7 жыл бұрын
the camera will record continuously until the memory card is full
@kanaisarker97687 жыл бұрын
But if I record for 30 minutes, I get 3 video files in the memory card. The video gets splitted after each 12 min 36 sec. What is the solution?
@PaulHughesVideo7 жыл бұрын
The solution is to download 'Sony Content Manager' and import the files using it.

Can you know if it was suitable for working with low lighting conditions without noise
@PaulHughesVideo7 жыл бұрын
I use this camera mostly at weddings, so evening receptions is as 'low light' as I ever need to film in.. I find it does a good job in low light without noise, but then i use a camera top light and shoot with 0dB gain. look at the low light comparison test I did, the link is in the description above, you may find it helpful.

Which is better nx200 vs nx5R
@Dutch3DMaster5 жыл бұрын
It really depends on what you want to do. If you need 4K (I don't know what the NX200 records in codec-wise, but know it can do 4K, maybe only after a firmware-update) definitely go with the NX200. Control-wise there is not much of a difference, the biggest difference is that the NX5r is a 3CMOS camera, the NX200 has only 1, but it's a lot bigger (1"). You might compromise something in picture quality, since it has to Debayer (but a decent picture will probably not tip anyone off, so yea). I understand the question though, these camera-line ups have become filled with these kind of "You will have to make a compromise you probably do not want to make" type of camera's with only minor-looking differences.

sure... no one likes gain... but if it has no grain noise with it I have no problem with it. In hotels doing seminars and conferences vary often are dark ballrooms. Even with the Ex1 cameras that have 1/2 inch sensors some gain is necessary. Also dark ballet its helpful. Usually 1/2 inch chips are better in low light situations so hoping the 5r is not too bad with low light. If i buy one I will do one of these and compare with EX1s since there must be others who have the same question.

why spend that much when its not even 4k its like going backward.
@PaulHughesVideo8 жыл бұрын
This camera is not really going backward. I just didn't spend the extra it would have taken to upgrade not only the camera but the editing facilities to handle 4K footage.. No-one has asked me for their film to presented on 4K. I believe it's at least another 2-3 years away.
@mowomedia48018 жыл бұрын
For much event video, sports, and live streaming, there is no demand for 4k. This is a 'workhorse' video camera.
@jonnyweston8 жыл бұрын
for the sort of environment within which I personally operate - 4k is a million miles away from us - i run a live audiovisual business here in Belfast, and the most that we send live to screens is 720p - and even at that... its a push to convince clients to NOT use 4:3 screens. This is indeed a great camera for the money, and will work well in churches, corporate environments, or for shooting little business stings etc.
