I used A7iV for years and I have serious issues with it's usability for video. The issue is that it's marketed as a hybrid camera but fails largely to be a good video camera. They need to fix overheating on the camera, we need full sensor readout for 4k 60p. We also need better stabilization because some of the native glass would benefit from it even more. I would say 44 megapixels is fine as long as we don't lose low light ability for video, if it becomes more of a photo centric camera I don't think I will buy this one but rather just skip it. Megapixels were never the issue with A7iV, it's the above and ability to take low light video which must be improved. Regarding lenses, we need a 20mm f1.4 Sony GM 82mm filter thread, and we also need 28-105 f2.8 GM Lens. We also need updated 135mm f1.8 GM II with teleconverter, lighter glass and better close up - minimum focusing distance performance. I think updated 24mm f1.4 with better minimum focusing distance would be nice.

A7V Question for techies: Can the 33mp sensor be configured to output fast enough to reduce rolling shutter? Achieve 15 fps? And shoot 60 fps in 4K with little to no crop? If not, it would fail to match the Nikon Z6III, Canon R6II and upcoming R6III. @DieHardEddieEdwards5 күн бұрын
I'd be fine if the MP count was the same for the A7IV, but the issue with the sensor is just that it's so slow and the crop in 4K/60. That's the main complaint with that camera. With the A1 II, it wasn't sexy, but there isn't any big need for more megapixels than 50, it shoots fast enough, etc. With the A7IV, it was just too slow and kind of limiting with the 4K/60 crop. Outside of that, it's kind of a perfect everyday camera. I'm not sure that I'd love 44 MPs to be honest. The megapixels aren't as big of a deal beyond 33.

Let's be realistic here, all that 33MP sensor needs Is a faster readout for 4K60 FF and lower rolling shutter. It will not get close to any other much better/more specialized camera Sony makes. Hoping for 44MP, 8K etc in a base model that has a hard time to cool 4K30 in it's current form is just not probable. What I think most likely is again combination of features/upgrades, no one major one, but more of what's available. So partially stacked 33MP (like 2x speed makes it work), 4K60 FF, better VF (but not flagship), hopefully the modern LCD, refined AF + the AI chip, and some video features, that's it. No magic for the still 'basic' model, but overall solid upgrade on many fronts and huge jump from A7iii.

@PetrKlapper5 күн бұрын
@@kingghidorah8106 These 2 things are not directly causing one another - the sensor is of course fully stacked and the EVF behavior is not caused by any partiality, but most likely by some other processing limitation 'on the way'.

@@PetrKlapper every technician says that "sony cameras reduce viewfinder resolution during af-c/ibis/shutter/focus peaking because the sensor has a low readout so a1 and a9 camera models with stacked sensors won't have this issue", yet they do have it. And I believe they have not one, but two of them plus AI assist. The A9III and A1 have the same 1080p viewfinder and yet the resolution drops to 320p, say, LOWER than the 10 year old ILCA SLT cameras that have to put all their raw performance onto high density pixel sensors and higher mechanical burst rates that of course are also casted at higher bit rate since a99ii can perform 11.5 fps lossless uncompressed raw while a9iii can only do 120 on lossy compressed and a1 can only do 20fps in anything higher than compressed 12 bit raw.

The highly advanced cameras that Sony makes (and prices 2K more than they actually worth, poor sony artisans can't buy their third G Master prime tele in a year) should not fall behind the other brands in term of workflow performance. Because these bottlenecks are pretty fundamental. It is not like say a 1080p viewfinder dropping to 720p, but rather below 10 year old viewfinders; or shooting 30fps lossy raw or below instead of "around 20fps or less on anything above uncompressed raw, which is basically JPEG plus".

I switched from the A7iv to a used A1 only because of random AF for sports. A stacked sensor is required to solve this issue. It will allow precapture and will be able to compete with the R6iii. @Othmane.FETTAKA4 күн бұрын
No not 44mpx, Sony has always keep a sensor for two years, they will put the 44mpx when the A7r will have a new more defined sensor, the A7v will keep the same 33mpx sensor with a faster burst and 4k without crop which is already very good, let's not forget it is a high resolution sensor

Higher spec would only make sense if the price is very close to A7RV or if it’s followed by 80mp A7RVI

A7V at 2999 and competing with the Z8/R5 body (44MP/20FPS) would be amazing; and then the A7RVI with 70 MP. at 3999
@futoenjoyer5 күн бұрын
it's not happening because if the a7v is capable of competing with z8/r5ii no one would buy their overpriced a1 ii that they just released
@jeroenvdw5 күн бұрын
The only way for them to implement 20FPS is to give it a stacked sensor which would be huge, the competition gives their mid range camera's stacked sensors but Sony only does it for the A9 and A1 series.
@futoenjoyer5 күн бұрын
@@jeroenvdw 20fps is kinda possible without stacked sensor if they limit it to compressed raw + lower bit depth like how canon allows 40fps 12bit raw photo for r6ii and r8

if they have the second case scenario, then what is the point of the a1

SONY A7V SCENARIOS: 1. Either Sony keeps the 33 MP A74 Camera sensor and update rest of the core specification by introducing a dedicated AI chip..or 2. They can put a Major update by surprising all competitors with a brand new 44MP sensor-based camera and 8K video recording capability. A Sony 7V would be good news. Then hopefully there will be thousands of used Sony 7IVs. Used price Eur 1100 would be nice

Dont Sony nearly always use a sensor for at least two generations before updating? So a 44mp sensor seems unlikely. Also 20fps sounds too much competition for the A1ii to be likely. Maybe 15fps? But A9iii body with the multi tilt screen must be likely after how popular these have proved. That alone would get a lot of upgrades. BTW I think the A1ii is more popular than you think. I spoke to the main dealer in the UK today about my pre order and heard their first 3 batches of A1ii have already pre-sold - so sounds rather popular
@johannvantassel46044 күн бұрын
they need to make leaps for the a7V. They cant just release a large-body version of the a7Cii. Im predicting 20fps at least, because it wouldn’t compete with the a9 series anymore like it would’ve before the a9iii came out
@ernstvandijk63425 күн бұрын
The A7 V would be much more expensive with the new sensor, which would be a bad thing. I don't expect Sony to implement it.

Ill get an A7V probably sometime in 2026 when there are some used models for a decent price. Brand new they will probably be $2,800
@SuchetB2 күн бұрын
The conservative prediction is unrealistic as the upgraded viewfinder will be pointless, especially if the video files resolutions are the same as A7IV - I think users want higher resolutions, maybe an 8k downsize to 6k option, and a the usual 4K options and maybe options to record directly to an SDD that would be nice.

Andrea, nice update on the A7V, when i bought my A7IV just 3 yrs ago this month i paid $3299 , if the new A7V is only $3500 that is a very good price if that is what it ends up selling for, these are Canadian dollars i am talking about, right now here the A7IV is priced down to $2800 by Sony Canada, if the new A7V comes with the new bigger sensor and all the things you listed, take my money I will upgrade and sell the A7IV and probably my A77 MK2 which is an awesome camera that i still get lots of use from it and yes it does 20fps easily at 24 megapixels raw no problem, I will be sad to see it go, if the new camera is going to be that good, I will buy it and not upgrade again for at least 5 to 6 years 👍

What he’s basically saying is the A74 can receive most of these modifications via a firmware update.

The bold specs camera has no recent camera to compete against except for the a1 II. Unless against the old Canon R5. Of cource this could be somewhat competeing with the Nikon 45Mpix Cameras sitting between the fast ones and Z7II

@terje5723Күн бұрын
No way it will be 44MP. Either they keep the current 33MP or they use a new stacked sensor to compete with the Canon R6III and Nikon Z6III as they should. A 30+MP stacked sensor with the new screen and the AI chip would be pretty nice, but that would steal lots of sales from the higher models. Kind of a sticky situation for Sony. The original A9 came out 2017, why are Sony so slow rolling out stacked sensors?
@petrg685 күн бұрын
So it'll be just as slow a piece of shit as the A7IV. Time to go to another brand.

mas mpx seria un error, para eso están las a7r, 44mpx es exagerado, mas peso pero no significa mas calidad, al contrario, mejor 24mpx y que alcance 4k 60fps sensor completo
@devklepacki5 күн бұрын
It seems that currently except for some utility functionality there's not much to be added to the cameras. It's all just small incremental improvements, just like smartphones. There was a HUGE jump between A7II and III, and later A7IV improved on many things that A7III was lacking, but these were already mostly annoyances or things like eye AF in video. From now on what can they improve? Better ergonomics, screen, AF, more ports, faster readout... Which were already almost perfect for such an all-round camera! But that's all nice to have. If you MUST have 4k 60fps you would have already bought another camera. If you must have 15 FPS photos you would have already bought another camera. And so on and so on. Of course, AF will be better, but still depends on what one is shooting, in a studio environment or on-site video recordings I personally had a 99% hit rate so I don't need it to be any better. And also they cannot do anything that will cannibalize their other lines. Why would I need more battery life? I already have 4 batteries and they last me for nobody knows how much because I've never had a situation where that wasn't enough, even for 12h shooting days. Even if - how much -could they improve it? 10%? Better just go and buy 2 more batteries!

It seems to me that after A1 II there will be no changes except for the AI chip. Probably your first version!
