Sony Smart Remote Camera App

This video is an overview of the free Sony camera app "Smart Remote Control". This app allows you to control your Sony Alpha camera and acts as a wireless monitor using your Android or IOS device.

I asked this question on another video, but have you ever used it for photos? When I use my iPhone, the app disconnects if I press the Review button on the camera. I hear Androids don't disconnect, but I don't own an Android device.

Nicolás Broner yeah that's Sony. The app is like a totally separate thing from any of the settings found in the camera menu. I also use picture profiles and I'd like to see this updated though it looks like Sony is giving up on Playmemories Apps.

Hi, I would like to ask if you could help me. When I connect my a6300 via the WiFi to my phone (LG V20) the only thing I can change in the Smart Remote Control app is zoom. No ability to change ISO, aperture, focusing mode, white balance, continous shooting etc. Only zoom and I can also check out my pics after taking them. Camera has the latest FW. I've tried to find a solution everywhere but it doesn't even seem that anybody else has the same problem. I've also tried many different versions of the Android app but still the same problem. Thank you.

I have HX60 camera and it doesnt show all the features on the app. I cant access shutter speed, ISO, timer can be set only to 2 sec. I thought setting it to the Manual mode will do it but it's still limited. Any ideas?

Download "Imaging Edge Mobile" from the Play Store. Playmemories doesn't work anymore.

I need help if you read this any time soon.. In the settings in the App... the ONLY Settings being displayed is for timer.. I have nothing else.. I'm taking into consideration buying a Sony mirrorless camera (a6300) In this video, You said that "I was unable to play XAVC S 4K video files", but actually I don't need to play 4K video files through this app. I just want to see 'live views' through my smart phone screen DURING 4K RECORDINGS ! Is it possible for seeing 'live views' though this app DURING 4K RECORDINGS?

Thanks for watching! If by "live views" you mean seeing what the camera sees while recording then yes. You can see yourself while recording 4K video.

I have a Samsung S9 and just got a used A6000. I downloaded the only sony app i could find, Playmemories Online, but it dosen't have any access to remote camera. All it is for is getting the images off the camera and putting them in the cloud somewhere . What am I doing wrong? Where do I get the right app?

a Answered my own question: If anybody else is having problems with "Smart Remote Control" on your Sony Alpha xxxx camera, they discontinued the playmemories mobile app. Now it's called "Imaging Edge Mobile!" Download that on your smart device and you're good to go!

Hey are both of you guys setting your camera's mode wheel to video (the little film strip icon)? There is no way to switch from photo mode to video mode in the app, you have to use the physical wheel on your camera. Hope that helps!

The ios app seems to have a new name: Imaging Edge Mobile. There is one called PlayMemories Online, but that is the wrong app. Apple's website says: "Imaging Edge Mobile is a free application that succeeds PlayMemories Mobile."

Good video and overview of the features, but how is this "great for vloggers" when you can't use the app to start recording video or use the screen mirror at the same time you're recording video? You didn't mention that....

I'm not sure what camera/phone you are using but I can 100% use the app to start recording video with my A6300 controlled with my Samsung S8. You just have to have the dial on the video mode, you can't change that through the app. I can also record in the mirrored screen mode. If you are using another camera, Sony does not specify the differences in operation between all their cameras so I would not know. This setup is not good for vloggers compared to anything with a screen that flips all the way around and I would not recommend this setup to anyone wanting to buy a camera for vlogging. It's just an "alright" solution for people who want to vlog and still use Sony cameras.

Great video, but this app from Sony is TOTALLY USELESS. Why does it have to be a completely separate app?! It disables 90% of the settings that one needs, you can't even shoot RAW when in this application... Sony, please take note from Canon. Canon works way more simply and doesn't unnecessarily disable basic features...

Totally useless for Sony's top-of-the line amateur camera, Sony SLT-A99 and adult camera, Sony SLT-A77. It works with Sony's beginner and children cameras, like A6500/A6100/A6000 and Nex series.

Yeah you can't download this on an A99 or A77 but you don't need to as much since their screens flip all the way around. Not sure if I agree on calling the A6500 a children/beginner camera, I've seen it used a bit in the pro video world (not big productions but wedding and small commercial). Thanks for watching!

How are you going to see the LCD if the Sony HVL-60M flash is parked? I see many A6000 & NEX at high schools and beginners shooting weddings. Sony DO NOT really make real 35mm format pro camera, they only claimed Sony's top-of-the line camera. Just like Canon EOS-5D Mark IV and Nikon D850 are not really pro cameras. They are nice amateur cameras that pros, amateurs and beginners can use and enjoy. Canon & Nikon are not selling much because many beginners and amateurs are using cell phone/tablets or buying mirrorless cameras. The only real pro mirrorless cameras are APS Hasselblad X1D and FujiFilm GXF 50s.

I agree with you but I come from a video background like I mentioned. I guess it depends on your definition of pro but the A7S II is a full-frame 35mm "pro" camera for video. It's used to shoot commercials, TV shows, weddings, etc. I think the term some people use is "prosumer" when talking about cameras under around $5,000 because they are accessible to people outside the industry but you can still make money shooting with them.

If you have to buy a product then you are a consumer (prosumer). A pro gets paid or have it free. You should try out the ATG, Phamtom, Red or those affordable Canon EOS-C500 systems. Sony do make commercial & pro grade equipment. Unfortunately Sony A and E-mount were never considered pro equipment. But many beginners, amateurs, youtube & video posting like to use beginners and amateur equipment. We and our friends made some short clips using the Canon EOS-C500 on the Need for Speed and When You Find Me.
