Sony Smart Remote Control App for Sony A7 and A7R

In this video, I'll show you how to use the Sony Smart Remote Control app for Android and pair it with the new Sony A7. Once connected, the Smart Remote app lets you control various settings like aperture, shutter speed, ISO, white balance, focus, and more. You can even select a focal point by tapping on the screen on the object you want the camera to focus on, something you can't do just with the camera itself.
While this demo uses an Android phone and the Sony A7, this functionality is also available for the Sony NEX-5T, NEX-5R, NEX-6, and the new A7R, and the remote app is also available for iPhones.

For the people commenting on this video. I think you fail to see the point of the video. He is showing us an app. He did state in the beginning that the controls are limited. The fact there is an app is great. Still photography like portraits or group gatherings without using a remote for the shutter is a really nice feature. Don't you think? Thank you for the video Mike. Hi, Thank`s for video. I have question - is it possible to control Time Lapse mode from Smartphone? I mean settings and also use smartphone button for start and finish? I want to take pictures for 20 minutes at 1-2 fps, would it be possible using this camera and remote control app? I want to install camera under helicopter and take shots once airborne while flying, starting shooting whenever i deem it necessary.

Hi, Great video. Can I use this app while filming? I own a sony a6000 and the screen does not flip to the side so I cannot see myself while filming. It is a little but of a disappointment because I am going to use this camera for filming only. I want to attach an ipad or iphone to the camera and use it as a monitor. Is this possible? Or does the app only work for photos?

Hi Mike Just a quick question on my sony a6000. I downloaded the remote control and updated also ....for Stills the remote works but for video as remote no options and whatever mode dial I change nothing works for video. Any Idea? Pls Help Thanks Mike.

Hey Emil - Sorry I'm not much help here, as I don't have an a6000 to experiment with. If you don't see a video record start/stop button in the app, I'm guessing it's not supported. Who knows - maybe it'll be something they include in a future update.

Only 5 meters, good. 10 meters, better pray. Sometime even 1 meter doesn't work on Sony SLT-A99 ii, top-of-line semi-pro camera. Maybe good to 3 meters on Sony A7r II.

angelisone because i would have to give a 10 hour IT lecture on computer networking, and even then it's unlikely that you have the resources to do it anyway. for starters, the camera would have to be sitting behind a modem/firewall with a static IP. something you are very unlikely to have

Andy - Make sure you have the mode select to Aperture Priority mode. That's it.

I have downloaded the app... It's not even showing the features you are talking about. All it does is to record, adjusting ISO a bit. No zoom, no aperture setting, nothing, It's a sony a7 rii.

You may have figured this out by now but i was experiencing the same thing. I just got an A7ii two days ago and when i tried the app yesterday i immediately wrote it off as garbage because it did almost nothing. Then i saw this video which showed all kinds of features. I thought that maybe i had the settings wrong but it turned out that the version of the app on my camera was old. The camera firmware was up to date, but this app was old.
