Sony SRS-RA3000 - Computational Audio done right

Sony always had the brains to make things work and make things right. The problem is that the divisions within Sony never really work with each other and they have always kept their own research within their own division. So Audio never shared with Camera, TV, entertainment or whatever... It was just each of them doing their own things...
They are quite at the top of the game with the cameras, and still trying to figure out how to make their TV magic affordable, but today, we see proof that Sony might have just gotten their computational audio right.
Introducing the Sony SRS-RA3000 with ambient room-filling sound... from just one speaker with built in streamer, amp and all.

Any chance a review of the Sony HT-A9 will be upcoming? I find your impressions/reviews to be the most objective (with measurements to back it up). Curious how it compares to your Sonos Arc setup!

Sony has not sent me any soundbar to test but if they do, I will want to review the HT-A9 too! Maybe they shouldn't classify that as a sound bar cos it loos nothing like a bar.

Sony HT-A9 is out of box thinking in wireless audio system. It's completely new thinking, redesign the typical soundbar system. So everyone especially Sonos Arc user curious on it. Please review it if u hv chance to do so.

I've an Amazon Echo and an Amazon Echo Dot speaker. One feature of both these speakers is the ability to play a choice of my music as per my vocal request, like for example, I can say "Alexa, play the greatest hits of the band The Beatles", which it subsequently does from Amazon Music. Does the Sony SRS-RA3000 have the similar feature to play on voice command? Thanks

Yes but you need to have a google home mini or echo etc to issue the command to which then can be relayed to this speaker.

360 is a product from pyschoacoustics audio engineering research. Good tech review. It would be nice to be be able to show a polar plot of the sound intensity around it. You probably need some microphone array setup.

Thanks for another great video. Quick question: I need one speaker for my kitchen. Have already Sonos Arc+sub+2xLSs. Should i Get this Sony speaker or Sonos Roam (similar price)?. Or maybe Sonos Move, however it costs 2x what Roam does. Should I stick to Sonos platform, or go with more features - Sony?. Thanks in advance for your kind suggestion :)

Personally I’ll stay in the Sonos ecosystem if you are already invested in the Sonos ecosystem. But the roam won’t compare to this Sony if you’re out for pure sound quality. Although the roam has a built in battery so you can really love it anywhere and won’t be confined to where you’re deploying it. The Sonos move is a good comparable speaker in terms of scale of sound but the price is hard to stomach still. If you’re not so concerned about keeping the music in sync with your arc, then go for the Sony.

Hello I hope you can answer my question. I got this speaker and I leave it charging when I leave for work I came back I disconnected it from power outlet and it is not working as in it’s not turning on as if it has no battery. I plug it in again and it works just fine. I though it was a wireless speaker what am I doing wrong ?

It’s not a portable speaker, it has to remain plugged in. I feel bad if you brought it for portability

The diffuser is actually an acoustic lens. Sony knows music better than most.

It does make the sound a lot louder than the TV. The bass is better. But you should use the 3.5mm input. The Bluetooth connection has a bit of a lack although you might not find it bothersome.

If you are just out for pure sound and output, at 200, this is a far better sound than the Sonos ONE.

It should fill up the room pretty nicely if the apartment is small. In fact, it did fill up my tall ceiling room pretty well. I have gotten my hands on the RA5000 and will get getting round to the review of that bigger brother!

@@PeterPee fantastic. I look forward to that one. I love the design of it. It's a great looking speaker imho. But it's just too big for my apartment.
