You can map the shutter and ISO to the dials. Also, you can get the iridient plugin for LR which will give you a raw editor that was designed for the x trans sensor. I was a Nikon D750 shooter. Then I bought the XT1 as a crop body loved it despite the quirks. Then I tried the original A7 but didn't like it and the Fuji XT2 released and I got that one. Then the A7III released and I shot with that a ton, but once the XT3 released the Sony gear hasn't left the shelf, so I sold it. Eye AF on Sony is unmatched. Fuji is getting closer, but Sony still has the comfy lead. One day when I need the resolution I'll probably go to the A7RIII but I've yet to have a commercial client tell me that I didn't give them a file with enough resolution... But after shooting on film I started in digital with the D200 a "professional" crop 10.2MP body. Great review, if you used the camera for a month I think you'd definitely replace the Sony crop bodies with Fuji.

I've been a Fuji shooter for over 5 years now (way back with the S-L-O-W X-Pro1) and you're 100% right about muscle memory. I actually find it a very intuitive way to shoot now. As for processing, I tried Capture 1, didn't like the interface, so switched back to LR. Here's the thing, though, for most of the shots I give from a wedding, I'm using the JPEGs shot in-camera, with very little work needing done to them. As long as you nail exposure (which shouldn't be too hard with an EVF), white balance and have a film simulation set which suits your style, there's not much to be done to them. The few times I'll edit a RAW file these days is when the lighting gets tricky, or for my WOW shots using off-camera flash, as these are usually the shots which will be enlarged. Anyhoo, great review, Manny :)

There are almost 900 comments here, so I'm sure someone already covered it, but to address a couple of you cons: 1. DIALS: You don't have to use the top dials. You can set the front and rear command dials to control F. and S.S. (just like every other DSLR) so you never have to take your eye away from the viewfinder. 2. EYE AF: The 56mm f/1.2 is a big chunk of glass, and one of Fuji's slowest focusing lenses. Beautiful. But slow. So naturally, Eye AF isn't going to be as responsive. And it doesn't have I.S., so you have to slow down to get the magic out of that lens. I will freely admit the Sony beats the pants off of Fuji in the AF department, but Fuji is still capable of doing everything I need it to do.

Manny!!! Thank you for the honest comparison. I tell my Sony buddies it's a matter of preference. The Sony technology is BANANAS and everyone is chasing them. I praise Sony for being so disruptive in the industry. It made so many new camera features possible that we were told previously could not be done or was two years down the road on Canon and Nikon's roadmap. Had the XT-3 not come out I would no doubt be shooting with an A7r. But the Fuji color science and ergonomics talk to my heart and as you correctly stated... Makes me want to shoot every day, rain or shine. Lastly, you are absolutely correct regarding LR. I love the Adobe interface, workflow and mobile apps BUT if you shoot Fuji you have to use C1 to get the correct raw conversion. So I am currently stuck with both a Phase One and Adobe monthly subscription because I can not UNSEE the difference. The new LR February update has a tech preview of their artifact improvement for xtrans sensors. I 🙏🏾 pray it's the fix I am waiting for. Excellent video/review Manny. I agree with you not wanting to change your LR workflow. You can get good results from LR with Fuji files. You need to turn the detail slider to 0. Then you can sharpen to 70-100 if you like... The detail slider mainly sharpens edges of an image and works best with Bayer sensors with aa filters. The results are not quite as good as C1, but unless you are pixel peeping at 100% you will not notice the difference.

If you shoot Fuji and use the latest version of Lightroom, there is in the Photo menu an option called "Enhance Details". My understanding is that this was added for the Fuji raw files which, depending on your subject, can enhance the image. (some foliage can have that waxy/wormy look if you zoom way in on it) However, there are a couple of issues to be aware of so you probably shouldn't use it on all shots, plus not all shots benefit from it. Depending on your computer, it can take a fair amount of time to render the image. It will also create a file that is several times larger than the original raw file. I don't use it often, but on those images that can benefit from it, I can see a difference.

You can push the RAW files way better in C1 and you have to learn it but when your a first time user for anything you have to learn! Think about it if you never used lightroom you have to learn. When people say learning curve it’s like you don’t want to learn something new and be diverse. I love learning. My favorite film simulation is Classic Chrome 👍🏽

You can set the iso/ ev to the front control dial in the menu, and make it operable with one hand. Your eye af experience is coming from using a lens with slow af.

Man, you can map everything out and leave the top dials on A/T, then you can use the auto modes and the front/rear command dial to adjust everything.

I own the Sony A7iii with multiple heavy lenses. But I really want to get an XT-3 with the 23mm F2 for my street shooting. I thought hard about the x100f but no weather sealing is a deal breaker for me. I'm too scared to take the A7iii out in rain. Did that once and my camera locked up a few times. I might just pull the trigger today. And I agree Manny, learning Capture One can be a huge hassle when you have a solid workflow already. Good video man, always love hearing your thoughts.

So funny your comment on the aperture ring because that is one of the big reasons I went with Fuji. Trust me, if you use this camera for a week you will not only get used to the physical controls, you will LOVE them. The best part is you can check all your settings without turning the camera on. Love your dog, super chill.

Only works up to a point though. Many lenses have an unmarked aperture ring, so you still get that (for me) awkward control on the lens but not additional info out of it. I much prefer a top display for a quick look at my settings. Granted, the camera needs to be on, but everything is in one place not all over the camera. Plus physical dials prevent the camera from doing intelligent stuff, like resetting your exposure compensation if you turn the camera off (which is a life saver for me). So I get that love/hate relationship, I loved those dials if I had time to setup a shot, like on a tripod. Hated it when I quickly wanted to switch something.
@tomscott44385 жыл бұрын
@@alexanderhetzel8271 It all depends on the individual and what they are used to. I came from film and have always been more comfortable shooting in full-manual mode. As a result, I am used to making these adjustments and after a while it becomes second nature. Fuji have designed their cameras for someone who likes to slow down, take their time, compose the shot, and enjoy the experience of photography not just the resulting images.

Great review. Field tested and honest findings. It killed me when I got my xt3 and found that I couldn’t use Lightroom to process the raw files. Lightroom supports the xt3 file now, but the didn’t for about a month after the xt3 cam out. I was not happy to switch to capture one. But now, I feel right at home in it. I’m not one to say that one is better than the other. I think it all depends on the photographer. But I find that capture one makes me think differently than Lightroom did. Like the Fiji camera system, I’ve come to enjoy capture one and a different way of thinking, after 10 years of felling like I already had it all figured out. Things fell fresh again. Much respect.

Wow, you left the Sony program to try other cameras? That must have been a hard decision since you worked hard to get that, but I comment you for bringing different cameras into your KZbin world. I think in the long run you will benefit from the decision. I wish you the best and I will keep watching your channel. Keep the great videos coming sir.

Manny i love that you review this camera. I'm a Sony shooter since the A7R and I upgraded to every model, the R2, R3 and now the R4...BUT I like to jump ship to the upcoming X-T4. I'm bored with Sony now. I don't like to bring it with me now every time like I'm used to. Plus i think the X-T4 is a better hybrid camera. Aside from portrait, I shoot real estate photos and videos. What do you think?

A great honest review from someone who uses gear for a living! I switched to Fuji from Nikon FF it was purely as I was getting older (65) and needed lighter kit. I found the exact same issues with Lightroom and couldn't get used to Capture One it simply was not for me! ....I cured the Lightroom issues by configuring Lightroom to Zero for all sharpening and noise reduction and using a plugin for dng conversion (Iridient XTransformer) which is done within Lightroom so there was not much to add to my workflow. Lightroom is by nature built for the conventional bayer sensor and not for Fuji's Xtrans thingy. At the beginning I was committed to making it work which admittedly was a pain in the arse! but now no issue at all. I do miss my full frame gear but the image quality from APS-C in Fuji was great (as you say not all APS-C are equal) and I've got used to the nobs and dials thingy but all In all happy. Looked at Sony as well but there was so much that I wouldn't use e.g the fast focus system and the like. Anyway great review Manny looking forward to more ;-)
@FAceleSS842095 жыл бұрын
idea for your method of holding camera to eye to hunt for comps. take a semi rigid piece of plastic and cut a triangle at the aspect ratio of your sensor out of it. then you can hold it up and zoom in and out by pushing or pulling it towards or away from your eye. plus its lighter than holding a camera. anyway take it or leave it, nice video either way :D
